WATCH: Runner found to have only covered 185m in 'breaking' 200m World Record
An unfortunate blunder has taken the shine off the athletics world getting back up and running.
The WANDA Diamond League had runners competing in real-time in different parts of the world due to coronavirus and at first glance it appeared we were witnessing history with Noah Lyles running the 200-metres in a crazy time of 18.91 seconds.
It immediately raised eyebrows with the commentators as it would have smashed Usain Bolt’s record of 19.19 seconds. The time did prove too good to be true with further inspection revealing Lyles had started from the wrong line and therefore had only run 185 metres.
A frustrated Lyles took to Twitter to vent his frustration clearly aimed at the organisers.
You can’t be playing with my emotions like this….
got me in the wrong lane smh ????????♂️— Noah Lyles (@LylesNoah) July 9, 2020
