Bliksem some great ideas.

I’d have to disagree about move to Optus though, I love the place but it’s too big and you will lose the atmosphere. Test cricket has suffered there, I’d much prefer going to the WACCA where the atmosphere was more than half the fun. The lack of shade at HBF is a problem though so moving the games until later would be better. Maybe our great premier needs to upgrade the west stand to mirror the east stand which would help!

I’d have to say the blokes in the flamingo hats and/or the Barbies and Kens in their pink boxes were the best dressed. Unfortunately, the Saffa’s and Kiwi’s (I’m one by the way) in their Bok’s and AB jumpers were the worst dressed. My bunch of Kiwi’s are already planning for a much better showing next year.

The award for the most passionate supporters was close run thing between the Fijians, Irish and Argies. Great to see the passion, joy and most of the all the friendliness between all the different fans……..that’s before I mentioned the cricket result to Aussies next to me 🙂

Double disappointment: Aussie men and women go down in Perth Sevens finals as Ireland snap hoodoo

Magnificent article Geoff and a truly Kiwi take on the greatest rivally in world rugby.

My great uncle Arty played for the All Blacks in the 1937 series and always said to us that was the pinnacle. His brothers and sisters (including my Grandmother) remember Althetic Park in Wellington bursting at the seams with people sitting right up to the sideline. A crowd of close to 60,000 apparently whike the Caketin struggles with 35,000.

I was only 9 when the Boks toured in 1981 but I still remember the confusion and anger that tour generated in New Zealand. I guess that was my awakening to the great rivalry that went on into hiatus for 11 years, which while sad, was all for the right reasons.

I remember watching the 1995 World Cup final in the living room of my 1 bedroom student flat in Aro Valley. We had 20 plus packed in there like sardines. Though we lost that was the greatest world cup final I’ve been privileged to watch, in my humble opinion at least, and the TV survived :).

Good luck to both teams this weekend. l’m hoping for an All Blacks win of course, but I love my Bokie friends as well and wish them nothing but love and joy.

'There's never a winner, just the next battle': The intense 102-year old rivalry that 'neutrals can't quite comprehend'

I’m not a fan yet of including NZ teams , for the moment at least (and I’m from NZ originally).

I reckon
1) drop the power surge, and the super sub rules. They don’t add anything to game except confusion.
2) Merge the Sixes and Thunder and the Stars and Renegades
3) then just run a home and away season (10 games each), semis, and one final. Simple!

At the end of the day we should all ask ourselves does Novak’s story pass the pub test?

I’m going to say no and then say go home Novak!

Spew I do remember this became a problem in the AFL after they introduced their high tackle rule. For a while players were deliberately ducking into tackles in order to get a penalty. The AFL had to review the rules and allow the umpires to penalised the player carrying the ball if they thought they were milking it, common sense.

I definitely don’t think Moriarty was deliberately ducking into the tackle but he did go very, very low with his head even before Blackadder tackled him. How Laulala was supposed to avoid high contact in real time I don’t know but as per usual all the analysis was done in slow motion. I’m happy good sense prevailed and a yellow card was applied, definitely not a red.

Bahaha 😂

The Wrap: Wallabies shake off the rust while All Blacks raise the ton

Fair enough Geoff, I don’t know the internal politics over there. Maybe World Rugby should give them a nudge and say 2031 could be a possibility but only if you get your house in order. That could focus them a bit.

The Wrap: Wallabies shake off the rust while All Blacks raise the ton

Thanks Geoff, great wrap up as usual.

I reckon each of the tier 1 nations should play one away game against a lower tier nation each year. Yes initially the score lines will be ugly but unless these teams are exposed to that rugby outside the world cups how are they ever supposed to improve?

I also think World Rugby should be going to America for the 2027 World Cup. It seems every second cup is held in France/England/Wales hub which is getting pretty boring (and favouring a certain group of teams). South Africa deserve a second tilt but Australia and New Zealand have had their fair share. The 2019 World Cup in Japan was fantastic and I’m certain it will be in the US. I’d love to see to one in Argentina/Uruguay as well, long overdue.

The Wrap: Wallabies shake off the rust while All Blacks raise the ton

Thanks Geoff I didn’t know that either.

Celebrating 100 Tests and 100 years: 'There's never a winner in NZ vs South Africa, just the next battle'

Thank you for the wonderful article Geoff, a great read.

I keep trying to explain to my Aussie cousins that while the Bledisloe Cup is very, very impotent our rivalry with the Wallabies comes in at #2 but they really don’t understand even when I say our rivalry with South Africa is really our version of the ashes.

I’m really looking forward to the game, forgot the form going in, it should be a screamer!

Thanks Highlander great article.
I must admit I’m really happy with where the team are heading although I did yell at the TV a bit on the weekend when the school boy errors like double movements or kicking four paces beyond the mark happened.
I reckon your spot on with who have locked down the spots. My only concerns are Will Jorden – he keeps getting caught high in the tackle and causing turnovers and of course the back three. I’d personally go with Papalii 7 , Jacobson 8 and Akira at 6 with Mr Blackadder on the bench. As a Hurricanes man I love Ardie but I do think he’s stuck between playing 6,7 and 8 at the moment and the others are contributing more.

The ‘clunk’ of another All Black piece falling into place under coach Foster

No Scrum I wasn’t saying it was tough to live here, what I was trying to highlight was treating migrants with respect.
If you really feel that strongly about letting migrants into the country then fair enough lobby the government to stop migrants coming in.
I agree that migrants have an obligation to uphold the values of the country the move to and contribute to countries well being of that country.
I arrived here 25 years ago, never been on the dole, paid 25 years of taxes, raised three beautiful young Aussies and I’ve given back to my community by volunteering as a firefighter and surf lifesaver over 15 years.
And yet I still get asked by some Aussies “when the hell are you going home?”

Citizen Quade: 'To not know if I could come home was a daunting feeling,' says 'grateful' star

Your right of course Scrum, we should all leave.

Citizen Quade: 'To not know if I could come home was a daunting feeling,' says 'grateful' star

Well scrum considering that when your an Aussie moving to NZ you automatically get permanent residence, health cover (including ACC or accident coverage), access to the dole and you are highly unlikely to be deported I think that evens things up aye.

I was very fortunate to be made an Australian Citizen before all the changes were brought in so while my process was a hell of lot more straight forward I certainty don’t take my citizenship for granted.

Most of the Kiwi’s in OZ are hard working law abiding citizens but more and more they are being treated as a second class. I’m sure you really don’t want Australia turning into a country like the UAE where they have the locals (the ilde rich) and the underclass (workers from the sub-continent) who work there for stuff all with next to no rights at all.

Citizen Quade: 'To not know if I could come home was a daunting feeling,' says 'grateful' star

Yeah that’s what I mean JamesD the stadium was only half full for both matches, or so it looked on the TV.
If people forked out for both matches but only attended one Rugby Aus would be happy with the gate takings but it’s shame you haven’t got a packed house for the game.

The Wrap: Quade Cooper finds the sweet spot to bring the Wallabies home

I hope so James.

I really don’t think the double headers are great idea if the stadium is going to be half full each week (unless you want to restrict numbers for Covid19). You’re going to get the same problem each week. I know NRL finals are on over there as well but surely you can spread it around a bit.

The Wrap: Quade Cooper finds the sweet spot to bring the Wallabies home

Thanks Geoff great article as always.
The only thing that irked me all night was the commentators endlessly repeating that Queensland is centre of the sporting universe this month (I assume the QLD government is sponsoring the broadcast).
If the poor crowd turnout is anything to go by then Queensland is woeful place to the playing the rest of the Championship! The stadium wasn’t even half full.
Oh and congrats to the Wallabies, bloody gusty win!

The Wrap: Quade Cooper finds the sweet spot to bring the Wallabies home

Pretty good Golden Eye.

It’s obviously an oval ground for the cricket and AFL but all the seats have a great view and the screens at either end are huge so you don’t miss anything. And the noise! Wow.

CONFIRMED: Times set for The Rugby Championship double headers

Rugger I wasn’t talking about the whole history of Federation just the last 18 months. I also wasn’t insinuating that WA is the most important state blah blah that we should succeed blah blah and we only ever receive 30-40% of our GST contribution blah, blah.

What I was saying is that Australia (you know the whole of Australia) has been lucky that iron ore, gold and now copper and nickel prices have been high over the past two years and hence have brought in much needed income while the rest of the economy suffers with lockdowns.

If Covid19 made it into the general FIFO workforce this all comes crashing down. It’s amazing how quick colds and stomach bugs pass through the camps let alone this thing.

In that context are a few rugby games, AFL games, or shock horror the Ashes really that important? I really, really want to see the third Bledisloe in Perth but if not then so what?

'Nature of the world we live in': WA Premier casts doubt over Bledisloe 3, rules out TRC hosting

To be fair TJ the mining industry is propping the Australian economy up at the moment and helping to pay for things like job keeper (or what ever it’s called now) in the States that are locked down.
I’d love to have all the games in Perth, believe me, but not at the expense of a lockdown.

'Nature of the world we live in': WA Premier casts doubt over Bledisloe 3, rules out TRC hosting

I’d love it JD but you’ll have fight Aussie Rules for the stadium!

The Thursday rugby two-up: The Rugby Championship is here (somewhere)

Totally agree mate. I’ve been on the Force band wagon since day 1. The only drama I have every year is the Force v Hurricanes game (I support the home team that week).

I still remember sitting on the platform at Perth train the night of first ever Force home game that was at Subi Oval. Now that was a sea of blue! While we were all waiting for the train out west there were calls of “where are you from” and of course Perth being Perth the answers were Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Dublin, Edinburgh and London.

One pommy yelled “how good is this? All of us in the same jumper”

New Bledisloe fixture sends Aussies to Eden Park twice

I must admit it was an All Blacks Jumper with a Force cap!

New Bledisloe fixture sends Aussies to Eden Park twice

I’d have to say almost an All Blacks home game. Last time all of the seats where decked out with Wallaby and Aussie flags but a goodly amount of the crowd (including you’re truly) were wearing black. Pretty similar to an Wallabies/Boks crash in Perth really but a great atmosphere though.

New Bledisloe fixture sends Aussies to Eden Park twice

Look on the bright side Ken. The All Blacks have never won at Perth Stadium.
