Jax,

It is my understanding that there is a disrepute clause in all AFL player agreements so I’m guessing Richmond has the ability to act in a very meaningful way should it want to.

Dustin Martin's dusty Saturday should be severely punished

But it WAS a woman and as has been said Australia has a massive problem on this front (this year almost a woman a week has died as a result of domestic violence) so I hope Richmond and/or the AFL take this seriously and act decisively.

And while I would probably caution my wife and daughter not to directly confront an obviously drunk and/or drug affected male, any woman should be able to ask any male to behave appropriately in a public space (or the home for that matter) without fear of verbal or physical assualt.

Dustin Martin's dusty Saturday should be severely punished

I’d sit him out for the first six home and away rounds, make him do tweleve months work at a women’s shelter (or similar organisation) and fine him $50K – with the money being paid directly to the shelter. It was appalling behaviour and Richmond simply must respond in a meaningful way.

Gold!

Aussie tough guys in their own cricket world

Steve Waugh is not playing in the current line up so how is record relevant?

The illogical ‘logic’ of batting Steve Smith at 4

I too have really enjoyed Ryan’s contributions. Well done and thank you. I hope you enjoy your Summer downtime.

A dozen insights into the 2016 AFL fixture

Sorry Ryan, I missed that you’d already answered the same suggestion. … For what it’s worth I’m warming to the bye and the notion of an ‘AFL Awards Week’.

Breaking down the 2016 AFL fixture

Haven’t determined if I like the bye before the finals yet, but given we have it I would like to see the Brownlow held that week as it would allow intersate players to travel to the count. May as well name the Rising Star winner and All-Australian team too.

Breaking down the 2016 AFL fixture

I understand the act took place in the US, if the actual jurisdiction is confirmed the authorities in said area could choose to pursue the matter. Given both police chiefs and some public prosecutors are elected at a city and state level over there, an official at the pointy end of an election cycle might want to pursue a potentially high-profile case. Particularly against a soft, foreign ‘celebrity’ target. It’s a long shot, but …

Carlisle sorry for snorting 'mistake'

“Jake needs to find new friends” … absolutely!

Carlisle sorry for snorting 'mistake'

You’re a tough judge. I’d argue that the Blues are coming from such a low base (yes, they have the worst list in the competition) that while they may have only made modest improvements it is still a meaningful step in the right direction, particularly given just how disfunctional the club’s administration has been in recent years.

Carlton had a good trade period? Spare me

Okay, for mine Carlisle is an idiot but as others have said at least he was quick to put his hand up and take ownership of his actions.

But what should we make of the bloke who appropriated the vision, sold it to the Nine Network (for pretty good coin you’d imagine) and then appeared on-screen with his identity hidden? He’s no whistle-blowing hero exposing some great government or corporate wrong.

Carlisle sorry for snorting 'mistake'

Melbourne and Carlton fans should be pretty happy with the way their clubs have played their hands over the last fortnight.

AFL trade rumours update: All smoke, little fire

I think he’s good. Very good. His brother (Maverick) plays at St Kilda and apparently their parents moved from Tasmania to the Gold Coast when Maverick was drafted by the Suns. Plow argued that it would be good for the family if both boys were in Melbourne because Mum and dad could relocate there, or back to Tassie. Not sure why that would motivate St Kilda to make the suggested trade. Anyway, I think there’s massive upside in the kid.

AFL trade rumours update: All smoke, little fire

On the tyre fire just now Plow suggested Fremantle should trade Weller to St Kilda for pick 14 and then on-trade that and its first round pick next year to GWS for McCarthy. Thoughts?

AFL trade rumours update: All smoke, little fire

While Fremantle need a key forward it shouldn’t pay massively overs for a kid who is still all promise and potential. I’m guessing Fremantle could offer him 150% of what he’s on and get him for about half of the suggested $700K. If he genuinely wants out of Sydney for personal reasons then you’d imagine he’d sign for two years on $300K-$400K, and then renegotiate for more if he demonstrates he’s worth it. If he kicks 50+ in 2016 and 2017 then he could probably command $750K+ from 2018.

AFL trade rumours update: The great ruckman roundabout

Dalgety,

What is it … lazy reporting, aggressive club spin or a combination of both?

AFL trade rumours update: The great ruckman roundabout

I’ve only heard the $700K figure floated by Barrett. McCarthy’s management has said, directly to DB on the tyre fire, that Fremantle have not discussed money with him or the McCarthy family.

It’s brilliant Ryan, and apt. I appreciate Jamie’s clarification because the discussion I heard made it sound like Cam and Nathan were reporting a rumour they had heard, as opposed to repeating a suggestion of their own. Again, ‘tyre fire’ is spot on. Well done.

AFL trade rumours update: Four days left on the clock

Thanks for the clarification.

AFL trade rumours update: Four days left on the clock

Agreed. I just don’t see the GWS parting with McCarthy this year.

AFL trade rumours update: Four days left on the clock

I note the boys on the tyre fire (Trade Radio) were saying this morning that Fremantle are offering GWS pick 22, Barlow + next year’s first round pick for McCarthy. That’s the second time this trade period that Barlow has been rumoured to be on the way out (last week he was going to the Blues for Casboult). I’ve said before that he will have to reinvent himself a little now to find a place in a starting 22 that includes Fyfe, Mundy, Neale, Hill and Bennell, and with kids like Weller (he’s very good) knocking on the door. But trading out such a fan favourite would be a massive call. Interesting.

Carlisle has said that he will play with Hawthorn if it delivers Essendon the better trade.

AFL trade rumours update: The future is here

Sooner than I imagined.

AFL trade rumours update: The future is here

Would the Blues part with him for pick 22? I agree that Carlton needs him.

By paying overs I meant I’d hate to see Fremantle offer him $700K+ a year as they have others (including McCarthy, allegedly). While they desperately need a key forward I don’t believe he’s worth that kind of money, not yet anyway.
