Rugby tragic. Brumbies Supporter. I coach Junior Rugby. What are you doing to improve the game?

Don’t forget that “Mickey Mouse” competition in Canberra. Dan McKellar lead the Vikings to 2 premierships (around the same time that Sydney teams refused to play against them) in 2011 and 2012.
And Lachie McCaffrey is right now the head coach for the Gungahlin Eagles.
Rugby, and its pathways, exist outside of East Sydney and Brisbane.

Set up to fail: The gaping hole in Aussie Super Rugby coaching CVs - with one clear exception

Define Woke.
And what does Canberra have to do with it?

'I'd love to see him back': Beale set to take first step in rugby comeback, targets milestone event

Is this junior or senior? For juniors, 26% of the fees go to the club, 29% to the state union, 30% to the State Junior Union, and 13% to RA, which also included insurance.
Juniors also get a General Admission Season Pass to all Super Rugby home games.

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

Watching the Wallabies on Stan and there was a couple of scenes where there was alot of staff, or an event, and I asked myself “Who is paying for this”.
Guess that answers part of the question.

Waugh reveals shocking $2.6 million unapproved budget blowout on Eddie Jones' World Cup debacle

Seconded. And not only for the players, but everyone involved in coaching Rugby in Australia, from Juniors up. Not only is the Lord a great coach, but also great at being a coach. You want the game to grow, it’s not just about the players being professional (and my definition of professional is someone who is dedicated to the absence of mistakes), but the coaches, managers and administrators as well.

Exclusive: Schmidt set to bring 'Lord' back to the Wallabies as first key appointment

Been coaching long?

'They haven't learned anything': Crusaders' Penney opens on Tahs - and why he 'feels really sorry' for Coleman

Agree with your assessment, but the Brumbies don’t steal “all our players”. They pick up players that have been rejected by their own clubs, and make them better. James Slipper is a case in point.

Five things we learned: Aussies given early Super Rugby warning, Lolesio's timely reminder

I made a comment on social media about coaches; It took 5 years for Wayne Bennett to win a GF with the Broncos, which was 3/4 of the team had played Origin together. That’s my standard for coaches being appointed, give them 5 years to build towards a Grand Final with a new (or broken in the Waratah’s case). A coach needs time to build something, and boards (who are never held to the same account) demand too much, too soon.

The Wrap: Opening round of SRP a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same

Not a bad idea. The Women’s 7 IS the standard; players, coaches, management. The only place they are let down is promotion, and that’s because it falls under RA’s direct responsibility.

The Wallaroos' new coach is a trailblazer in Australian sport - but she doesn't want to be known as that

It is poorly published. There seems to be “confusion” over who is supposed to promote this, the state super rugby side, the state union or RA.

The Wrap: Code Orange as looming Rebels decision places rugby pathways at risk

RA do.
Go to the Rugby Xplorer website (not the app), login, select coaching hub on the left hand side.

The Wrap: Code Orange as looming Rebels decision places rugby pathways at risk

“Juniors is, as ever in Australia, hindered by the ambition of the volunteer coaches who can’t see past their own club/culture”

Done much junior club rugby coaching?

The Wrap: Code Orange as looming Rebels decision places rugby pathways at risk

Jimmy and his program were always going to be done over because:
He’s not from NSW,
The program is not run in NSW, and
The program does not support NSW.

Whilst its nice that the players are starting to notice this, coaches have been talking about this for a while now. (Lord) Laurie Fisher said that when he joined the Wallabies, he talked to the team about their lack of enthusiasm and urgency in getting back up of the deck and into the line. Maybe with the players seeing this themselves, maybe this might be the same as New Zealand moving on from Ellis Park in 2004.
Maybe.

'I noticed it': Why Eddie could still play a part in Aussie rugby's turnaround - and the 'hard conversations' driving Brumbies

I was really fired up when I read this. The author I suspect has had an intention in mind, and then used data and inflammatory language to help it’s publication.
Don’t give it oxygen. RA from Club Rugby down, which includes Juniors, has lowered the tackle height to below the sternum. It’s up to the coach’s and administrators to bring this new rule in a safe and responsible way.

Rugby News: 'Weird period' - Tahs' devastating Eddie treatment revealed, kids' tackling is 'child abuse' claim

Story from NewsCorp bagging out a Super Team not from NSW or QLD.
The Shock. The Horror.
I too wish for an indoor stadium, but I can only see that happening with a change in government in the ACT, with the election in October this year. The best news out of this story is the amount of home grown players.
Pathways, if setup correctly work. But lets not tell NSWRU and the Shute Shield about that.

Brumbies shut down talk of following Rebels into voluntary administration

Yeah,
Nah.

Well the Brumbies and Connacht teams have a good relationship already.

Rugby News: Wallaby with 'drive for perfection' inks new deal, Kepu loses captaincy, Farrell says 'au revoir' to England

I really hope the Waratahs haven’t adopted the same approach as the NSW Cricket team in that they include a baggy green in their NSW kit bag.

Rugby News: Wallaby with 'drive for perfection' inks new deal, Kepu loses captaincy, Farrell says 'au revoir' to England

Sorry, Greg Who?
(and to be honest, in the last twenty years what Wallaby coaching gig has not ended in tears?)
Personally, I’m glad it didn’t go to McKellar or Larkham.
Show’s that McKellar has integrity (he just signed a contract), and Larkham wants to build on from last year.
I think RA got this one right.

'We'll sack him and be in the same position': Ex-Wallaby condemns Larkham snub as Schmidt deal CONFIRMED

Regardless of who was selected, it seems the comms was a shitshow. 2015 (I think), former Wallabies called squad members who were going (some of shared the same position), whilst Cheika called the ones who didn’t make.
Say what you want, but that has class, style, empathy and responsibility.
Which seemed to be missing in huge amounts in 2023.

'What the hell is going on?': Jilted Wallaby reveals Jones chaos and tells coaching flop to 'at least be honest'

Good. Builds fitness, skills, cohesion and resilience.

Controversial Rugby Australia policy to be shelved after Wallabies disaster

Thank you Matty C for writing an article, and getting on the website.
But in regards to the premise of your argument, Yeah, Nah.
The Horatahs suck because NSWRU and the Horatahs suck.
NSWRU have not promoted the team, have not encouraged kids playing juniors to follow through, have no clear pathways from the Under 7’s Marlins to the Horatahs, and have focused too much on the Shite Shield at the expense of Super Rugby.
After not learning the lessons from Ewan McKenzie (who left and coached the Reds to a Super Title), the NSWRU Board dicked around so much that Simon Cron (who was an assistant coach I think), is now coaching the Force, via Japan.
The Brumbies, Reds, Force and Rebels all organised or hosted oversea’s tours during the off season. I still have NFI what the Tah’s did.
The Horatah’s demise is entirely theirs, and their state union. No one elses.

A disastrous decline: 10 Years since the Waratahs won the Super Rugby title and reasons behind growing list of problems

Nick, thank you for your response.
Yes, alot of people are ignorant that rugby is played outside of Sydney and Brisbane. The Dewar Shield, played in Victoria, started 15 years before the Shute Shield.
As for Ben Mowen, I believe that context is king. Referring his to as “a Queenslander”, and not including his history with the Brumbies and Wallabies could allow some of the less informed Roar readers to make incorrect assumptions about him.

Pressure Points: Full throttle still to be found at Larkham's Brumbies, environment set for shake up

You seem to have omitted some key points article. Canberra does have a traditional rugby heartland, the Rep side was the Canberra Kookaburras and the comp is called the John I Dent Cup. The Kookaburra’s beat QLD and Tonga in the 70’s, and got kicked out the NSW and QLD Comps for winning them. When Jake White mandated that Brumbies players play in the John I Dent Cup, Shite Shield teams had a whinge, and refused to play the Vikings.
And Ben Mowen is a former QLD, NSW and Brumbies player. He also captained the Brumbies, captain, as well as Wallabies Captain.
