Grew up playing Aussie Rules, supports Geelong in the AFL, Storm in the NRL, the Wallabies & Springboks. Now playing Soccer (sorry football) and love watching my kids playing the round ball game and my daughter destroying the older boys with her fast bowling

The biggest issue, is the fixture is based on last year. A team (or teams) can be a flash in the pan and finish higher in that year, then next year are horrible. The other issue is time and place of playing the game. PA have played the Tigers 23 out of 35 games at home, yet played NM 23 out of 36 games away. Then look at the teams who share grounds, look at who Geelong plays “home” games at the G against. The fairness in fixturing really went out the window when, 1) consolidated grounds to the MCG and Marvel in Melbourne, 2) the AFL prioritised money over equality, 3) the number of teams increased.
A fairer system would be to use at least the last 3 seasons to see who is in which bracket.

An equitable AFL season is impossible with the current fixturing set up

It will be interesting with the new ratings system coming in.
Also the NRL have no games overlapping, whereas the AFL do. I can sit there and watch all 8 games of the NRL without changing missing any of another game. For the AFL, I can’t watch all 9 games, I have to choose on both Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.

Footy race: Well-run AFL is miles ahead of lumbering NRL - and here are six reasons why

Is that the best you can say? Pointing out their is no World Cup? NFL doesn’t have one, League’s is close to being a farce with so many Aussies playing for other countries.
So by your comment, you fit into category 2 as mentioned, or the bloke from the hostel?

Isn’t why PVL is taking the NRL to Las Vegas as well?

What else would you do apart from playing either Melbourne or Richmond?
Essendon want the ANZAC Day game, they need to expect/accept the vagaries that go with the draw. They had a 9 day break before ANZAC Day, really no excuses if you want to keep the ANZAC Day match.
Next year it will be on a Thursday, so will there be complaints then? This is what it will look like for the next 10 years. Accept that the draw is not always kind, build a bridge and get over it. At least you stayed in Melbourne, unlike Collingwood.

Is it fair to criticise the AFL scheduling so far this season?

It was only $20 for an adult, and if you had a daughter who had a Liberty A-league pass got in free (plus an adult), so they were doing something.

Is an elimination Sydney derby enough to paper over the A-League's cracks?

Of which many were free tickets from the sponsors Liberty, girls u16 got in free with a parent also receiving a free ticket (though they forgot to load Commbank stadium onto the pass, so it took awhile to get in), even though it was only $20 an adult to get in. Then they said some seats were reserved, others not and couldn’t tell you which ones were the reserved seats.

Got to grow the game, so give away the tickets to get as many people through the gates as possible. Many people for what ever reason, don’t think the women’s game (in most sports) is not worth going to (Allianz didn’t even open up the restaurants/food areas when Sydney FC women were playing before the men during the season). They don’t get it that it can be as entertaining as the men’s game. The final a few years ago between between Victory and SFC at Kogarah was a fantastic game with Victory winning in the final minute of overtime from a corner.

I was there on Sunday (with my daughter and her teammates from an NPL1 team) – enjoyed the game for some part as Western United only risked losing by more than 2 goals very late into the 2nd half (in my opinion). They left Keane often too much on her own against sometimes up to 4 defenders.

True – will be interesting to see what happens with Tassie coming in.

It's time to turn up the heat on Clarko

Fair point, as long as he fits the game plan to the players abilities. It is pointless having a game plan that the players can’t implement.
Clarko was good with his game plan for the players he had, especially 2008.
Lyon’s game plan worked most of the time, just missing a piece (player or style) in 2009, 2010 and even 2013. Scott tweaked Geelong’s game plan twice for 2 flags, but at the start of last year not many thought they had it right. Hardwick had it right for 2017-2020, will it work now? Only time will tell.

I would more say that a coach can be great if;
1. he has the right list at the right time (players in the right period of their career together). They have the right attitude and application, wanting to play as a team.
2. Drafting – think about drafts were the Hawks got Roughead, Hodge, Franklin, Lewis. Richmond doesn’t pass on Franklin, how does that change Hawthorn. Remember they could have had Selwood as well. The Cats benefitting from the FS rule is another example (this lead to a rule change with drafting FS after Hawkins).
3. belief in the game plan (some game plans work for some teams, but not others). Think Richmond 2016 to 2017, Cats 2006 to 2007, 2010 to 2011, 2021 to 2022. Hawthorn 2009/10 to their 3 peat.
4. Luck (maybe the team you play in the GF beat the team that has the wood over you. Or like Collingwood in 2010 where St Kilda didn’t know how to win it. Maybe the loss to the Cats the year before helped the Pies as well. The Pies were a good team in 2010 anyhow, just didn’t put it together in the first GF.).

For Clarko to move from very good to great, he needs to lead NM to the finals for several years. Ross Lyon could easily be a 3 time premiership coach, level with Clarko (if Freo beat Hawks in 2013). We will see what Hardwick does now, can he rebuild another team that wins the flag, or was he in the right place at the right time. The same could be said for Simpson at WCE, Scott at the Cats, Beveridge at the dogs. Time will tell.

Yeah, it was.
Questions about KP will never stop. My response is always – when did Geelong become a suburb of Melbourne?

Footy Fix: The Cats are back - but the Swans made it embarrassingly easy. Again

If it flattered them so much, how come they have won 2 flags since Collingwood’s last?
They’ve (Cats) have belted/flogged teams on the G as well, how is that any different?

Footy Fix: The Cats are back - but the Swans made it embarrassingly easy. Again

Ok so 2018?
They scrapped in by 1 game finished 8th.
What about the G? Beat the Pies, Lions & Swangs in the finals there last year.
Only lost to the Hawks on the G last year. Have won 14 of their last 16 at the G.

Footy Fix: The Cats are back - but the Swans made it embarrassingly easy. Again

Yeah, I think Eddie made a poor decision to insert Buckley to the coaching position at the end of 2011. Malthouse’s energy seemed to be sapped once the decision had been made. I personally think it cost the Magpies B2B, and unfortunately Geelong had their measure after Rd23.
As for the injured Reid’s, nothing more needs to be said does it. Maybe the Bombers need to take heed if it is a Cats v Bombers GF….

Footy Fix: The Cats are back - but the Swans made it embarrassingly easy. Again

You are talking about 2011 in rounds 19 and 20.
Rd 19 Geel 37.11 (233) v Melb 7.5 (47).
Ended the coaching career of Dean Bailey (RIP)
RD 20 Geel 29.14 (188) v GC 6.2 (38).
Went onto win the flag that year didn’t they?

Footy Fix: The Cats are back - but the Swans made it embarrassingly easy. Again

So why aren’t FA in at Government (State and Federal) working to get the funding you claim is required? What are the NRL (and AFL) doing differently? They don’t charge the fees to play Football to pay for the senior teams. The team my daughter plays for at NPL level charge a hell of a lot for her to play, and yet the seniors pay nothing in registration.

My son loves his time in the Cove with his mates, Football has him for life it is cheaper for him to get in.

Does the A-League have a plan to win back alienated supporters?

Sorry I clicked on the best available – the range is $75 to $125.
And to be clear – I was comparing prices to Allianz not to other grounds. Pointless comparing SCG prices to Allianz.

Does the A-League have a plan to win back alienated supporters?

One factor could be ticket prices. I took my son and 3 of his friends to the Sydney FC and Western United game and it cost $38 for an unreserved seat in a stadium only about a third full. It is $35 for the NRL. Family ticket to 3pm game vs Glory is $100, whereas a family is $70 for the NRL. All tickets are in the same area of Allianz.
I remember taking him as a 5 y.o. to a Melbourne Rebels game and they wanted to charge $5 for him and I looked at the lady and said I take him to the MCG he gets in free, and added who is trying to grow their game. My daughter gets into the A-League W for free through her liberty pass, maybe they need to take a hit and let school going kids in for free or a token amount hoping that by the time they pay full price, they are full fledged fans of the league.

Does the A-League have a plan to win back alienated supporters?

I should add that originally, soccer didn’t have a crossbar or net, but evolved to what it is now.

Six Points: Bevo has a month to save himself, and the rule tweak needed to prevent another 'Sirengate'

So what does that say about Rugby and League? They have the whole width of the ground (60+m) to get their major score, whereas AFL (6.4m) and soccer (7.3m x 2.4m) are a lot narrower/smaller.
Seems like Rugby and League are football codes built for people who can’t kick… 😂

Six Points: Bevo has a month to save himself, and the rule tweak needed to prevent another 'Sirengate'

So if the Cats struggle away from KP, how do they win more than 9 games a year?

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions Round 2: Putting opening-round shockers in the rearview mirror

Just the action needs to be looked at – not intention. You can intend to hurt someone by going for a specky with how you use your legs. Think Greene with straight leg out. Howe launches himself consistently, the fact that Stengle was not concussed and Howe was injured has completely changed the way this action is viewed. It would be completely different if Howe doesn’t injure himself and Stengle is concussed.
If players are aware that the action (and not the result) is what gets them suspended, then they are more likely to change their ways. Pickett (like Stewart last year) chose to leave the ground while applying the bump, this shows his intent in his action was to hit his opponent. Easier to argue that it wasn’t his intent if he stayed on the ground.
It is just like the swinging arm behind – the intent is to hit the player, yet consistently the offender gets off or even isn’t cited. Now if the player knows that if they swing their arm backwards, they will miss a week or two, it will go out of the game pretty quickly.

AFL needs urgent adjustment to concussion sanctions and player punishments

Yes, the response of the ‘The World is against us’. If the Tigers were as good as you say, they would never have been in that position. They had a whole game and yet blame on incident.

Just a question – why does Siraj have the pain relief cream on the back of his hand? Why doesn’t the umpire have a tube of the cream with him? If they really want to remove an ambiguity, they need tighter rules with these things. Otherwise, there will continue to be allegations.
