It’s the media’s job to ask questions and hold the officials to account. As I said – there are other examples of him completely missing the mark. I used the two specific examples from his briefing on Monday to illustrate the point I am creating.

Time's up for Annesley's weekly NRL spin doctor sessions - they're bringing the game into disrepute

It’s not just that decision. This opinion has been weeks in the making and Monday was the tip of the iceberg for me. There are countless examples of Annesley’s technical hoopla getting in the way of the points he makes. It’s turned from an actual education exercise to a PR exercise and that’s the problem ultimately at the moment.

Thanks for your comment. I laid out a strong case why these briefings are turning into a farce. The comparison he used for the NAS try completely undermined his own point about the decision being correct.

Hey mate. The NRL have already done that in the past with former referees in the bunker and it was found that was where blunders occurred. Steve Chiddy missing the knees in Drew Hutchison, rewarding Matt Lodge’s dive etc. Steve Clark, Alan Shortall among others have been tried with similar blunders.

How cost-cutting has eliminated pathways for NRL referees

Thank you! Officiating has created a source of debate for a while now. I’ve been in and around the system for a while now being a former referee and having friends within the right channels.

NRL have clearly dropped the ball on referees pathways using COVID as a cop-out IMO.
