An aesthetic assessment of the A-League's new expansion teams

What a joke dude … 20K ? Most A-League clubs cant get that who have been around from the beginning.

hell NRL clubs cant get that!

From what im reading, you are deliberately pumping crowd numbers up in the hope people expect your unrealistic numbers just so you can call it a failure.

For a 3rd Sydney team, kicking off with 8000 to build on would be realistic ….

Id say 8000 would be great. We are talking a 3rd city team, not a 2nd like Melb City, or a Wollongong Canberra 1st team.

They wont be an overnight success like the Wanderers were, back then Sydney was begging for a Darby team, hell the whole league was at the time!

This is a whole different situation, and we should all hope it works or seeing any expansion of more teams in other cities with existing A-League teams could be a LONG way off if it fails.

Exactly, you can hardly call it a home team or your “local team” when you are catching 2 trains and spend around an hour getting to a home match.

and thats both at Parramatta and Homebush!

Add car travel to Campbelltown station ontop of that.

I know the Macarthur team will start with smaller crowds but if given time and working with community football teams that in my opinion should all get family discount memberships if they play the game, then i can see crowds slowly increasing at time goes on.

I have followed Wanderers since year 1 but its always been a tough ask as a season ticket holder.

I live in Campbelltown and im a South Westie not a Westie …

Anything from Bankstown backwards to Camden Leppington and even further bacvk id consider South West …

If you need Government proof! Look at the train line map on a cityrail train!

Green rail line till i die!

Marconi are one off the top of my head.

A-League clubs must be selfless in promotion-relegation debate

To get the current A-League clubs a little more into the idea, i suggest that at first only one A-League club is potentially relegated. The team coming last will playoff against the winner of the 2nd division (Table winner no finals) and if the A-League team wins they stay up but if the 2nd Division team wins they go up and the A-League team goes down.

It gives the existing A-League clubs a little breathing room for the first few years of promotion / relegation until the idea expands further in time.

He’s not even in the top 3 choices by CP Management, he aint going anywhere.

Will Popovic abandon Western Sydney for the Premier League?

Well if we assess all options,

Western Sydney Wanderers – Cahill has always said he is a western boy and proud of it, the team he would most like to play for, however other than merchandice sales Wanderers wouldnt get too much more out of it other than game day results. They already sell out most games.

Central Coast Mariners – Lost a few players, and coach, Cahill would give them something to cheer about. Close to Sydney and his family, could they afford his pay tho ?

Newcastle – Would help on the pitch thats for sure, and get more people into the stands, one of the teams that could really benefit in having him on a guest stint or as Oz marquee for the rest of the season till MLS pre-season starts.

Brisbane – There squad is already looking good and they are playing well crowds are good, dont really need him.

Melb Victory – Already have a decient squad too, and decient crowds, another team that could cope without him.

Melb Heart – Prob the team that need him the most, bring in crowds, help with attacking play but would he want to play for them ?

Sydney FC – Already bought in Del Piero, Emerton, the new Centreback (forget his name) , Garcia, the crowds are down but how many chances do they need to bring in more people. I think it would be a waste to have him at Sydney FC who have a good roster as is.

Adelaide – Have a nice tidy team, consistant crowds each game, good football, not really needed here.

Perth – Seem to be building at the moment so they may want him there, will help fill that new stand they built, Perth would benefit also.

Wellington – No chance sorry!

So at the end assessing it all i rank it as follows

1. Heart
2. Newcastle
3. Wanderers
4. Central Coast
5. Perth
6. Brisbane
7. Adelaide
8. Melb Victory
9. Sydney FC
and Wellington are no chance

Where would Tim Cahill fit into the A-League?

West Sydney Revolution
Black and Red
Play shared between Parra, Penrith, Blacktown and Campbelltown Stadiums with main games at ANZ

and ensure there is a Marquee Player who plays hard (Kevin Nolan/Robbie Savage/Barton type)

Western Sydney's A-League team and the media's reaction

Maybe the guy needs a break for a week or two.
