I haven’t framed my argument very welll on the defensive player angle.
A number of the 129 media members that vote, and maybe me too, are easily swayed by highlight blocks and steals (Noel will have many). Moose had one the other day that has stuck in my mind.

Kawhi was just the 6th forward to ever win the award, so traditionally a big man wins this award.
In my opinion, it should have been Draymond Greens award last year. He had more 1st place votes and played 20 more games (or thereabouts)

Noel is a defensive superstar, with the stats that will back it up. let’s not sell him short. I’m just jumping all in early.
Should be a great battle.

Williams hasnt had to create any offense with the Knicks, which is what he is made for. He’s FINALLY being used properly and is clearly a different player.

So, yes, the pre season can be very useful and should just not be ignored entirely.

We’re not talking about wins/losses in preseason thats a different argument altogether. We’re talking about players. Williams will be different this year just wait and see.

Pete, while I agree preseason stats are mosty useless, it’s not entirely accurate. They can be a very good guide too what is about to happen.

Noel is also going from being a rookie returning from a horrific career threating ACL-Leg injury that removed a year of growth out of his journey. It’s well known that while it may take 12 months to return physically, mentally it takes several more months.

This year you will see a massive jump acorss the board in his percentages, efficiency and raw numbers as his comfort increases. He is also more comfortable playing the PF position now with Okafor taking the scoring load as the starting C. Noel can just concentrate on being a doberman on defence. Watching him in preseason he has improved out of site.

Is there a mathematic algorithm for players returning from injury?
I prefer to watch the games.

It’s worth noting that the role Williams is playing now suits his game.
Hes back to being the college player that became the number 2 pick in the draft.
Minny and the Knigs tried to make him something he wasnt and did not play to his strenghths at all.

The Knicks are using properly, he will be a different player this year.

Pre season with the Knicks he averaged 17 points per game.

YR1 – 1.2
YR 2 – 1.9
YR 3 – 2.6

He jumped 0.7 steals per game each year.

Noel averaged 4.5 spg in pre season. He is in the process of being unleashed

If certain things have only happened once before, or never before or haven’t happened in 30+ years then there has to be some extra credit given.

Noel is going to be special defensively this year.
Okafor will takes care of the scoring and Noel gets the boards, steals and blocks.

Philly might surprise you this year Ryan. They will give 30+ wins a nudge. With Noel as the catalyst defensively and putting up historic numbers (if it happens), would that be enough?

ROY – this is the easiest one to pick. Okafor will hands down win this – should get 17 and 9 every night.
MVP – is between Davis and Durant, If OKC wins 60-64 games Durant gets it. (Smokey is Blake Griffin)
DPOY – Nerlens Noel will average more than 2.5 stls and 2.5 blks this season. Its been done once before. It’s happening again.

Those that say Golden State were lucky are correct to a certain extent….but you’re also selling their coaching staff short.
The key to the playoffs is adjustments.

The Warriors made adjustments in EVERY series that proved to be too good for the oppostiion to counter.

Draymond from the 3 to the 4 for the whole year started the whole thing rolling.

Bogut onto Allen against MEM, then small ball and no Bogut against the Cavs, Draymond from the 4 to the 5 against the Cavs. Each changebe it defensive or offensive was a master stroke and a lesson in perfect timing and execution.

Some say lucky…I say brilliant.
