Promotion and focus in Sydney is definitely a key area which needs to be one of the top priorities for Dillon.

The Giants experiment hasn’t worked so far in terms of crowds and exposure and you could argue that rugby in Sydney has actually taken over more as a result.

Because of that it makes it even more baffling to not schedule the Giants-Swans game on a Saturday night, given the enormity of the occasion. The game was barely promoted in Sydney, and that’s a massive problem

Is it fair to criticise the AFL scheduling so far this season?

Unforgivable because the FFA failed identify that he was a top talent. He was 33 then…what makes you think he wouldn’t have produced with more time on his side?

From being disrespected to becoming an A-league icon: Alessandro Diamanti bids farewell

“In fact we get comments saying if only the best in the NRL and AFL play football we would be winning the World Cup”

Some of those comments would’ve been from me because I’ve always said that. That doesn’t make it feasible to switch codes midway through a career in my opinion

That’s rugby. That’s AFL. This is football. Completely different sports which with all due respect to rugby and afl, football requires more skill and development from a young age all the way through.

A player switching codes such as Karmichael Hunt I thought was embarrassing for the AFL and an indictment on the skill level required to switch codes with such ease.

At the end of the day, you focus on one sport. I don’t think you understand just how many years of dedication and hard work are required to reach the level of becoming a professional footballer. Where has his ‘football career’ progressed since then?

Completely disagree. Bolt has spent his whole life training to become the best sprinter in the world. All of a sudden, he switches focus to playing professional football without the necessary development from a young age? What message would that be sending in regard to the standard of the A-League? The fact that he attracted 6k to a pre-season match and still wasn’t offered a contract proves that he wasn’t good enough.

Wouldn’t say he’s been a financial burden. Yes, what you said is correct going through season by season regarding how he performed, but he will offer so much going forward in terms of coaching here in Australia and sharing his knowledge and experience. We should feel lucky and privileged to have him on our shores.

Also, you’re saying Bolt should’ve been given an opportunity?

One of those possibilities in 2016 was signing a 36-year-old Ronaldinho even though he hadn’t played football in a full year. Obviously a massive name in world football and a huge talent, but to reject Diamanti especially after his performance against Victory in the ACL is simply unforgivable

The fact that he wants to stay after how the FFA treated him a few years ago is just a testament to his class and great personality

He’s always loved Australia and and confirmed he wants to stay and coach.

He was in his late 30’s and producing incredible performances…imagine if we had him at 33…

Could be the only real major concern moving forward. Sticking to what you know is great, but changes and tweaks are required during the course of a match as it’s always changing.

Essendon got completely blown away from minute 1 to minute 20 of that last quarter…did Brad Scott do enough?

Three areas from Essendon’s Anzac Day clash that need to be inspected for the rest of the season

Finding the right balance will be extremely important. Brad Scott definitely needs a couple more experienced figures who are proven winners, but at the same time, they can’t move away too much from their young core of players who in a few season’s time will hopefully gain valuable experiences like the one on Tuesday

WSW was set up to succeed right from the start in my opinion. WU had stadium issues travelling multiple locations and a lack of a fan base. There was more of a plan at WSW in terms of the long-term vision and the right players bought in, with the ACL triumph an example of that hard work paying off. All those things come into play

Marko Rudan's tactical balance has set up Wanderers to be a real finals threat

Essendon still need to learn to manage and control a game.

Perfect example was De Goey’s goal on the siren at qtr time. Essendon had an opportunity to keep possession and see out the qtr without conceding, but opted to do the opposite.

Bombers played extremely well for 3 qtrs, but you could tell they weren’t prepared for what hit them in the last term. They didn’t stick to what they were doing best and reverted back to absorbing pressure whether that was willingly or unwillingly. You can’t do that against a team like Collingwood

Footy Fix: Someone, please, just lay a hand on Nick Daicos. Anyone. Please

I agree with this. Collingwood will need to weather the storm for parts of the game. These first 12 minutes the Bombers have been dominating and dictating play but the Pies to their credit know how to hang in the contest. Essendon also needs to convert their chances and make the most of their opportunities going forward.

Bombers and Pies primed for biggest Anzac Day clash in years

Great article Stewart. At the end of the day, it comes down to the overall product and how much revenue is being earned as well as attendance numbers and TV ratings. Women’s football has already come a long way and many countries around the world are realising their potential by investing more money in the game.
Watching the elimination final between Victory and City, it was sad to see such a low attendance despite the weather. When the likes of Sam Kerr are moving to the UK, it shows the disparity between Australia and the rest of Europe that the women’s game might be moving away from us faster than we first thought. Investment is everything.

COMMENT: ALW GF will be perfect example of why female players in top tier don't deserve to be paid same as men

To be fair to Rudan, he has coached 3 sides who you could say arguably were not equipped to win a title. Let’s not forget he took over Western United in their inaugural season. You could say the same scenario was true for Popovic at WSW but I think they had better foundations set up to succeed.

With Corica, Sydney are mostly always in a position where they are expected to win. Some of his coaching frailties have shown the past couple years when the chips have been down

A loss against the Pies today shouldn’t lead to cause for concern though. No shame in losing to arguably the best side in the comp so far when fully healthy and the Saints approach won’t change much regardless of the result today I would think

All signs point to Ross Lyon's Saints going 5-0

That last point is valid, but I think considering they lost last week they’ll be focused enough

All signs point to Ross Lyon's Saints going 5-0

It will be interesting to see how the injured players fit into Lyon’s system such as Membrey and Steele. Quality players no doubt but will they need to adapt slightly?

I’m all for setting ambitious goals but the problem people have is hearing too much talk and not looking at little action

The A-League’s inability to make forward progress a result of all parties

It’s a brutal reality and I’m with you on that.

Could it be that media outlets such as fox sports and others focusing more on the EPL than the A-League actually be part of the problem? I know many who’ve had it shoved down their throats and have this perception that no other league matters. Why? Well yes obviously the quality makes it the best in the world, but the amount of media coverage it gets in Australia is ridiculous. Forget about that 2030 objective if that trend continues

The A-League’s inability to make forward progress a result of all parties

It’s like you’re putting the A-League in the same category as badminton…

The crowds and overall interest has dropped which I’ve stated, but surely it’s still big enough to be next in the bulletin after the AFL and NRL with the exception of a massive news story? The fact that Fox Sports feels as though there is more of a vested interest in the Premier League than the A-League here is a pretty damning indictment on football as a code

The A-League’s inability to make forward progress a result of all parties

Couldn’t have said that last sentence better myself Stevo
