Would you say scrapping the weekly Saturday night matches on the main channel and the Paramount quality as forward progress ?
The A-League’s inability to make forward progress a result of all parties
Can’t argue with that. Adelaide especially have matched it with City this season – a 3-3 draw and a 4-2 win proving that when they continue to attack and press they’re a real threat. Feel as though the Wanderers have to keep it more tight at the back
Melbourne City dominate the Phoenix to inch a step closer to the premiers plate
Well if the depth isn’t there then there’s going to be some fringe players like that in the squad. I think for a 23 -player squad we have the right amount of depth required. Just lacking in a couple of key areas such as a creative player, but TG has the pieces available to work with
How are the Matildas shaping up just 100 days out from the World Cup?
The fact that we have to hope for a Sydney club to make the Grand Final to ensure the best possible crowd and atmosphere sums up what a poor decision it is
Melbourne City dominate the Phoenix to inch a step closer to the premiers plate
The state of the pitch looks horrendous with the NRL lines barely concealed and it really does look shocking from a viewer’s point of view. Not much that can be done though
Melbourne City dominate the Phoenix to inch a step closer to the premiers plate
The 7-0 loss to Spain highlighted that Gustavsson experiments too much in my opinion. He fielded a team full of youngsters and inexperience, but that was the perfect opportunity for the regular starters to test themselves against one of the top nations
How are the Matildas shaping up just 100 days out from the World Cup?
Someone has to break the news to the APL that no matter what day you schedule Macathur to play, the crowds aren’t going to be much different. Sad reality but it’s true.
Adelaide-Sydney was set up perfectly for a Saturday night blockbuster
Honours even between Adelaide and Sydney in front of a sold-out Coopers Stadium
The Matildas have managed 4 wins in the last 22 games against the top 25 in the world. They’ve won their past 3 against Denmark, Sweden, and Spain (albeit the Spanish surrounded in turmoil with their new manager) which is obviously a positive.
Just feel like the team is missing something in the middle of the park and a bit of extra creativity. At times they’ve played some great football under Gustavsson but it’s been too inconsistent. The gap between the very best in the world and Australia is slowly but surely widening further and we must be careful.
Yesterdays friendly result alone shouldn’t cause alarm bells though
Matildas coach adds to Sam Kerr mystery in wake of loss to Scotland
Will City perform well in it though? That’s the question and the only things that matters
Honours even between Adelaide and Sydney in front of a sold-out Coopers Stadium
Could easily put up an argument that he’s been Sydney’s best player this season. Burgess has also impressed and I think the change of club has done him good

Government should be making it mandatory for SBS to hold the rights for any major football event.
The only problem is that they don’t care…

Carpenter’s return is massive because she provides an attacking threat going forward that the Matildas have lacked on the right-hand side during her absence.
For Kerr, there’s no other real explanation other than not being 100% fit you’d think. She has a chip on her shoulder to prove she can produce in the big games for her country at the WC

Obviously can’t rely on those free-to-air networks but at the same time, it’s important for the growth of football here if we want to see it go to the next level.
Should be some sort of agreement in the contract with ch10 where they need to promote the league for a specific amount of hours. Even ch7 need to start promoting the Women’s World Cup more with 3 months to go

They hop on the bandwagon when there’s a lot of hype like the World Cup or an A-League Grand Final though…
Honours even between Adelaide and Sydney in front of a sold-out Coopers Stadium
Sums up the core issue in the league around promotion and advertising. In saying that, a 14,000 turnout suggests that Adelaide’s brilliant performances are triumphing over this problem

Felt Sydney grew into the game as the match went on which had to do with both Sydney needing to push for a result and Adelaide dropping a little deeper. Corica probably could’ve played his substitution cards a little earlier to make an impact sooner.
Thought it wasn’t Adelaide’s best match, especially in the final third, but a draw was a fair result as you mentioned

I’m all for a president backing their coach for a long-term project to give them the necessary time required, but after 10 years you need to start reevaluating and changing direction. Without this it trickles down as far as not knowing what to plan for in the draft…do they go for youth or experience or a bit of both? What players are required to fit the coach’s style for the long-term. This needs to be sorted asap
Time for Port Adelaide to break the AFL trend and sack Hinkley now
I’m not doubting Hinkley’s coaching ability for a second because he has done some good things with that group…it’s just the consistency and long-term vision which has let them down in my view.
I think Hinkley needs a change of scenery as much as Port need a change of coach and new ideas

That’s correct and all unsold tickets were available to the public a week prior
Melbourne City survive a late scare to hold out a defiant Melbourne Victory
At this moment in time you’d have to say no from the evidence based on performances as you rightly pointed out.
Players such as Ollie Wines have come out to defend Hinkley but players basically have no choice but to say that. Once Ken is gone, we might get a full detailed picture as to what really went on behind closed doors
Time for Port Adelaide to break the AFL trend and sack Hinkley now
It was a decent crowd and although the match was only 70 minutes long, could the fixture have been moved to a Saturday night and swapped whichever fixture was currently scheduled on that Saturday to midweek?
Victory has some talent and obviously a great coach but they have just been too inconsistent all season. Midfield needs to be the number one focus in the off-season. Four points behind Sydney in 6th seems very close which it is, however, that just shows the amount of congestion in the table with a 12-team competition
Melbourne City survive a late scare to hold out a defiant Melbourne Victory
That’s more than fair enough and I understand that view which many other Port fans would have!
The club are surrounded with a lot of unknowns and the sooner they can have some clarity long-term the better
Time for Port Adelaide to break the AFL trend and sack Hinkley now
That’s been stated clearly by Koch, but all I’m saying is would it really hurt the club to try something new in round 3 if there’s been no real consistency at the club for most of Hinkley’s tenure? I just don’t see the point in sticking with a coach for an extra 19 games and let his contract run down for the sake of it. If there’s an opportunity to bring in a better replacement, time shouldn’t be lost
Time for Port Adelaide to break the AFL trend and sack Hinkley now
You’re right, but I think the big difference though was that they were both hired as interim coaches. Had a long-term plan been set for both then maybe things could’ve been different. There was a reaction after Bolton and Noble’s departures which is what you’d expect, but I think if someone like Carr can be backed long-term right from the get-go, then that’s going to have Port in a good position even though some will suggest that it would be risky. Long-term is the key, and whoever replaces Hinkley whether it be now or at the end of the season, time and patience is required. Heck, Hinkley has had 10 years
Time for Port Adelaide to break the AFL trend and sack Hinkley now
Does it not first and foremost cover Australian sports though?
Don’t see your point regarding “commercial interest.” So when the NRL is on channel 9 it doesn’t get mentioned on Channel 7 news?
