Very keen racing fan and Olympics enthusiast, now working for the South China Morning Post's horse racing desk in Hong Kong. Lucky to have attended some of the biggest racing events worldwide - but the Melbourne Cup is still my favourite event of all!

Flax leads out from Dan Excel from Pastorius…Meandre caught deep early.

Just Flax and Pastorius to come up…

…they come up and we’re RACING! Red Cadeaux squeezed and goes back.

Only three left to load now…

Then we get to the locals – Flax, Lizarre, Deep Pockets, Better Life – I could probably only see Better Life figuring in the placings.

They’re behind the gates!!!

Dan Excel won the HK Champions Mile last start, but still think he’s a step below this level.

Hunter’s Light was the favourite for the Dubai World Cup but disappointed. Godolphin had one of the favourites last year in City Style, but he was scratched at the barriers. He’s had a long time in Singapore to acclimatise.

Mawingo – I doubt his Australian form is strong enough for this race, and he hasn’t settled in well.

Mull of Killough is an emerging horse who may find this too strong at this point of his career but don’t be surprised to see him contest these races around the world in the coming seasons.

Meandre, we’ve discussed already. Might get conditions to suit, we’ll see.

Military Attack won the QEII Cup in Hong Kong last start, he looks world class. But he’s had a suck run each time, if he faces trouble in the run, could prove a hurdle to his chances.

Pastorius won the Prix Ganay at Longchamp last start, with Dunaden back in third. Looks incredible in the yard. Big chance.

We all know Red Cadeaux, and he’s stepping back from 3200m. So versatile and a great traveller.

I’m not surprised about Verenzuela. Looked a nasty fall.

A quick look through the field…

The depth is getting even more shallow as more Australian sprinters retire. Sprinting is not a focus in most parts of the world, as you’ve noted yourself.

Shea Shea probably the world’s best sprinter at the moment.

And it’s the best 1200m race run in the world this year IMO, although the T J may push that…

Hugh Bowman says the interference didn’t cost him victory on Bel Sprinter. I guess he’d know better than anyone.

Not at all. He came down the outside, the faller was one off the fence.

I’m not sure I agree his limit is 1100m, I would have liked to see him with a softer run and without the interference…

Super Easy ran third for the locals.

…but Lucky Nine has too much of a break, he’s kicked away, and he’s won it for Hong Kong.

Bel Sprinter grabbed second late, photo for third.

Emerald Hill was a faller in the straight.

Lucky Nine leads into the straight from a wall of horses, and HERE COMES BEL SPRINTER!!!! He’s flying down the outside…

Bel Sprinter missed it and snagged as expected, Lucky Nine makes the running…but there’s a fair amount of pace on.

He’s in and we’re set for a start in the Krisflyer…

…and they’re RACING!

Dasher Go Go is the last to go in, but he keeps backing away.

Emerald Hill is quite stirred up behind the gates, giving the barrier attendants a bit of strife.

Bel Sprinter looks brilliant if you are on him.

Good crowd trackside at Kranji, in Singapore’s north.

Half the field has loaded, best of luck with your investments.

And American Pat Cummings too, joining Aussie expats Matt Jones and racecaller Craig Evans.

Great team assembled by Singapore, world class team.

I think they need to get rid of the Big 5 system altogether. And the BBC needs a reality check…

They’re heading out onto the Kranji track for the Krisflyer Sprint. A lot of Australians seem to be jumping off Bel Sprinter – whether it’s the prospect of a silly price (under the odds) or the worry he’ll be too far off the speed, I’m not sure.

I’m happy to keep the faith with Jason Warren’s charge.
