Here’s a funny thought I’ve been having lately…
Why don’t teams send out the tail to face the new ball? Even if you lost two wickets, you could take away the bowlers first spell and the shinyness of the ball, at no demonstrable cost for the team, you could then have an extra stroke maker in the team, as opposed to a grinder who softens the new ball a la ed cowan, or rogers.
Surely a team has tried this at some point in the history of test cricket?

As frustrating as it is, the South Africans have batted beautifully on a slow deck, and our bowlers haven’t been able to do much about it.
It will be bat vs bat this game. If we can match them with the bat, then we can get a draw, if not, it is 1-1 and we are headed for a decider.
Probably the best result cricket wise, even if we do go down this test.
Game can change in 3 balls though, maybe we’ll get a hatrick and have them out for under 350?
