So a few words about myself... My name's Alex. I'm 19. Chelsea and Collingwood fan who follows a bit of Cricket and Rugby as well. I live in the UK, but spent part of my life in Melbourne. But why do I want to write? I study Philosophy, a discipline grounded in debate. I love an argument and the challenge of trying to defend my opinion. So what provokes an intense need to justify ones opinion? Sport. No matter where in the world, everyone has a team and everyone has that burning sense of pride, loyalty and obligation to defend, explain or justify their point of view on whats just happened before their eyes. Sport brings society together in interesting and conflicting ways which is while completely out of their control, features so heavily in everyday lives and conversations. So there it is. I, Alex Stephens, invite you to comment on my articles and show me your opinion. Simple as that.

What is Speight’s expected availability this year? I know he is looking to make the Olympic 7’s team so is he doing that alongside of Brumbies duties or instead of?

The complete Australian Super Rugby guide for 2016

It is a real problem for Hodgson. England have issues across all 4 defensive positions, central midfield and – although to a lesser extent – wingers. Two positions particularly strong are strikers/the ‘number 10’ role.

If Roy is to play a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond formation then there still seems to be a surplus of talent at the sharp end of the field. Sturridge, Rooney and Kane can play as the two strikers with Austin, Carroll, Welbeck (gulp) and Ings as squad members. If he plays Kane and Sturridge then Rooney can possibly drop back to play 10, then that would leave Sterling without a position which is unimaginable. This also fails to mention Ross Barkley who – I believe – can become international class if consistency improves.

My team for the next international would be;
4-1-2-1-2

Hart
Clyne, Cahill, Stones, Bertrand
Carrick
Wilshere, Henderson
Sterling
Sturridge, Rooney

This does leave out Kane which is unfortunate yet i don’t see him unseating Rooney (just yet). If Rooney wasn’t captain then it might be a different story. Kane would come off the bench along with the pace of a Walcott or an Oxlade-Chamberlin and some guile of a Barkley.

This is my team though and not what i expect Roy to put out! Don’t be surprised to see Delph, Townsend, Welbeck and Phil Jones lining up in March!

Is Harry Kane good enough to be in the England squad?

From what i remember, Morne Morkel was toothless against Australia averaging something in the 60’s!

Yes he performed well against Sri Lanka but his yearly average has been boosted largely thanks to South Africa playing tests against the likes of Zimbabwe and the West Indies – who arn’t the strongest of test batting outfits!

Ryan Harris has performed consistently against the batting lineups of India, England and South Africa and as such, I would take him every day of the week in a World XI.

It should be Steve Waugh and not Shane Warne!! Not sure what happened in the editing process…?! Thanks

Selectors, all we are saying is give youth a chance

Without wanting to make excuses for swearing at a kid, should you judge a man as disgraceful, disgusting and not a role model purely based on 5 seconds of frustration being let out? Biggest game of his life and as a goalkeeper, you can play as well as you like but if the blokes at the other end arn’t doing their job then theres not much that yo can do.

I’m sure he wouldn’t act like that on the street or if he was thinking it through. I know i get frustrated but when i do, i don’t have cameras trained on me.

Like i said, i’m not defending him but you do have to take in context and all that.

Also, for sake of argument, have a look at this. Seems a good role model to me.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0Tvn5nCiP8
