More a reflection on how poor the teams below them are. Though now Moore is out for the year they might just drop a bit lower.

Who will finish in the top four for the 2021 AFL season?

I’ve got the same top 4 with port a game back. My prediction is for Geelong to finish top and finish premiers.
Home and away finish:
Cats
Dogs
Lions
Demons
Power
Eagles
Tigers
Giants
Swans
Bombers
Magpies
Blues
Saints
Dockers
Crows
Suns
Hawks
Roos

Who will finish in the top four for the 2021 AFL season?

The last two games of the round are going to be the most interesting. Can the rabbits break the panthers streak and can the eagles make a statement against the hot running eels. For no reason at all I’m tipping the upset in both.

Tom Mitchell?

Sorry Nathan Buckley, but it's over

You do realise Howard went on the become one of the longest serving PMs.

Sorry Nathan Buckley, but it's over

Totally accept your comment Peter. However, I don’t believe age stats are sacrosanct and they can easily be skewed.
Something seriously went wrong? Yeah, moving on Malthouse clearly was detrimental to the team. I suspect they would have won 2011 or 2012 if circumstances were different. However, I don’t think Buckley can really be the sole blame for that…

Buckley isn’t the only reason for Collingwood’s demise, but he’s a chief architect

Well said. Bucks and the pies went hard for the cup in 2012 and was a game short. From there it was clear they needed to refresh or rebuild. It’s obvious the team would go backwards from there whoever the coach was. They were back in the GF in 2018 and was a game short 2019 and probably under performed in Covid 2020. Again they’ve identified to refresh or rebuild and are going to go backwards.
Peoples expectations are whack. Yeah, I’m sure in hindsight the trade debacle would have been dealt with differently but they had to rip off the band aid. Every club would love to be top 4 material every year but that’s just fantasies.
For Bucks to be worthy of coaching next year will depend on the KPI’s set by the club not by every man and dog with a whistle. My opinion, get games into the kids and get some new assistant coaches.

It’s all a mystery Les. I do suspect the Beams deal was a huge burden, especially for someone that didn’t end up playing. Not his fault just an unfortunate situation that led the club to back ending contracts. A few of players such as Cox, Langdon and J-Elliot were probably paid overs as they were being chased by rival clubs.
All in all, I don’t see where the problem arose but hopefully the pain they have put themselves through offloading club favs is not all for nothing.
Let the rebuild begin. Also, how ironic it will be for the pies not to get any father-son advantage via the draft as they are going to finish near bottom anyway.

Collingwood's salary cap mystery

A good round-up Sports. I look forward to your piece next week, especially if the pies lose to the roos. Surely that would be a circuit breaker for something to happen…

It's time for a reset at the Pies - for the club and for the fans

Brisbane Lions by 65 points? Big call!

2021 AFL season: Round 7 preview

Pretty much agree except bombers should be a lower number and the suns a higher number.

AFL Round 5 power rankings

Couldn’t agree more re Madgen and Mayne. I was a Mayne fan but he is clearly struggling now. There are a few more players that are lucky to be getting senior games, clearly with the injuries the depth of the list is being exposed.
When it comes to be bombers, who knows. They were impressive against the swans, a very open game. Smashed the saints, probably should have beaten the hawks, destroyed by the lions. I understand they are generally a young team so you would have to expect inconsistency.
28 points to be bombers is a big call, however I see it could easily be that or the reverse.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 6

Thanks for the read Chris. Whoever is the coach of each respective club next year will be a big determining factor in each clubs fortunes.
FYI, I believe Mason Redman is a bombers player.

A letter to the Collingwood Football Club

Well said. Unfortunately it looks like they need to start prepping for the future and getting games into their junior players. If they and the team start looking positive with these boys by years end, give Bucks an extra year, otherwise time for a full clear out.

Couldn’t agree more Les.

Collingwood need a spill!

Carlton by 37 points???

Someone's season ends on Thursday night

Mostly well said Les. I nice change from the rants from the last few months.
The article by the authors of the Do Better report was well written too, not hyperbole but a good reasoned explanation of their commission. Unlike the unbelievable amount of articles written on the topic since.

The fall and burial of Eddie McGuire

Wow! Had to check that one (thanks wiki):
– 2015 : pick 9
– 2016 : pick 8
– 2017 1st: picked Stephenson at #6
– 2018 : pick 21
– 2019 : pick 18
FYI, 2014 pick 5 DeG and pick 9 Moore.

The tyranny of the Magpies

Thanks Les. Sooo many questions, so little answers. Clearly the whole organisation have blinkers on. How could they possibly think trying to offload two popular contracted players would be a good idea is beyond comprehension. This is culture killing stuff. What’s the likelihood the captain and senior players make a stand and demand contracts to be honored?

Questions for Collingwood

Thanks Josh, I agree free agency is a s*#t show. Both proposed changes are needed and I especially like the no compo pick in the top 10. There should be more onus on the two teams involved to work out a deal. Neither club should be getting something for nothing.
