Arey is their most important player. It’s been a Christmas miracle that he’s been fit for the best part of two seasons but the bloke is made of glass. However, losing SB (and Gurgess) will deprive them of leadership and their forward pack looks bottom 8 standard with the exception of Murray and Cook.

Souths’ best shot is probably Matterson who is seriously underrated. Frizell would be good for a few years, but I think Matterson will turn out the better player. They’re delusion if they think they’re getting Fifita.

How stuffed are Souths without Sam Burgess?

They operate under the same salary cap as every other club and can’t afford to be outright dodgy as they’re a publicly listed company. Whether others abide by the cap is a different argument.

Reports: Broncos players were at the pub prior to historic Eels loss

The no try last night was the correct call. If it’s not called it signals to the players that they need to take a dive to get the penalty.

Rugby league's demand for consistency means rugby league is consistently wrong

Langer was better than JT so is JT also in that tier?

The burning question: Is Cooper Cronk an Immortal?

I wish that were the case with Cook, but he re-signed this year with Souths so it ain’t going to.

Bunnies vs Broncos: The NRL's biggest grudge match of 2019

I’m a Broncos diehard who gives them very little chance of winning the comp, but how can you say that our pack is overrated? Raw, yes, but they just absolutely destroyed the Sharks middle (who still had Fifi, Prior, Gal) and have been competitive the entire season despite only just playing their first game at full strength. The club is clearly looking towards the future by offloading players they don’t see in their future plans and putting an emphasis on re-signing young talent instead of pulling a Roosters.

Lol @ mentioning Roberts the walking injury who is the definition of rocks and diamonds and Niko as if we’re losing key pillars in our team. Niko has been rubbish for over a year at HB and the club clearly rates Dearden. Staggs has a higher ceiling than Roberts, is six years younger, is an actual Broncos fan instead of a Wayne fan, and we don’t really lose anything by having him there at the minute instead of Jimmy.

Are three NRL teams enough to make a decent finals series?

Warner needs to open, otherwise I like the look of it. Wade probably deserves to be in there over Handscomb on form.

Shane Warne has picked his preferred World Cup squad, and it's peak Shane Warne

England won’t win the WC. They will collapse spectacularly in one of the knock out games. Our ‘anchor’ players (like Smith and someone like Handscomb, Stoinis, or whoever the selectors pick at number 4) have the ability to go at a faster strike rate than most English batsmen when needed, so it really isn’t an issue.
Our pure striking players – Finch, Warner, Maxwell – are far better than theirs.

Shane Warne has picked his preferred World Cup squad, and it's peak Shane Warne

He started his career in a side cheating the cap (distorts that win percentage). After the storm got done for cheating he still had Smith (the best player of all time imo, and that’s coming from a diehard Broncos fan who despises the storm) and a strong side. He then left the storm when they started to recede a bit to go to a club that has a 17 eerily reminiscent, in terms of talent across the board, to the storm’s from 2006-2010.

The Roar's top 50 NRL players: 10-1

Paine has scored one ton total in FC cricket, and that was over ten years ago. His batting is shockingly overrated.

Patterson ton a welcome addition to Ashes intrigue

Faulkner as a bowler would be perfect for England IMO, his batting is just an added benefit (MMarsh averages 31 to Faulkner’s 30 in FC). If we had a wicketkeeper who could bat I wouldn’t be against having Faulkner at 7.

Australia don't need an Ashes all-rounder

Labuschagne is considered an all rounder by the selectors and they just added Stoinis into the squad?

Australia don't need an Ashes all-rounder

Marsh and Stoinis’ bowling is so bad that a part timer (Maxwell?) could easily cover the 4-6 overs they bowl an innings.

Australia don't need an Ashes all-rounder

You can add Mitch Marsh to that list; most likely Labuschagne as well. I can see Paine averaging mid to low 20s with the bat if he plays on for a bit, so he’s another bolter from the current Aus side. Head’s a possibility too.

The bold selections that didn't pay off XI

Wrestling is unfortunately a huge part of the game these days. Both Bennett and Griffin didn’t place a priority in coaching it, which is admirable because it ruins the spectacle, but it hurt the side’s success. Just look at the performance of clubs who rely on it (Storm and Sharks) at the start of last season when there was a ‘crackdown’ (read: actually enforcing the rules) compared to their results at the end of the season after their coaches had whinged enough in the media to have the refs let them do whatever they wanted in the ruck.

What happened to the Broncos?

We still are the financial power house in the comp, I recall it was said that we could afford the entire Australian side if there was no cap. Without the Broncos and our fan base there’d be no NRL, simple as that.

What happened to the Broncos?

It’s a joke that Labuschagne is playing Test cricket for Australia over Pucovski, Wade, or Maxwell. The fact that he’s seen as an incumbent is laughable; going by stats, he’s below West Indies standard. Paine is also, statistically, one of the worst keeper batsmen in the world having not scored a hundred in over ten years and boasting a sub-30 FC average.
On a positive note, it’s good to see Patterson and Richardson get a chance and the Marsh brothers out of the side.

Selection bungles cost Will Pucovski his Test debut

Better on what metric? He hasn’t tonned up in over a decade, so he better be good.

Dogs, Warriors, Raiders, and Cowboys would also be fine.

Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney

The comp only really needs a team in Perth at the moment. Possibly NZ 2 (Wellington or the South Island) if it’s true that Union is losing steam to RL over there.

Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney

The Titans are a dead club walking as well. I’m a Broncos fan and think that Brisbane 2 will fail badly due to lack of support (unless given an AFL like artificial boost through cap allowances and such, and even then they will absorb the non-Melbourne dwelling Storm fans aka bandwagoners who will abandon them for the next hot team that’s doing well), but I can see them moving up here within a decade unless they smarten up.

Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney

In Norman and Hunt they have what could be the two most overrated halves in the game on over 2 million dollars between them. A combination that failed so abysmally for Brisbane that Norman was shafted to FB.

Hunt looks like a rep half during the regular season when no pressure is on him, but the second any sort of heat is applied he looks worse than a reserve grader.

Dragons look for NRL premiership in 2019

It’s a bit rough to compare Bird, who was injured all of last season including the games he played, to Bryce who was fit and just horrible.

Bird and Bryce under pressure to perform in NRL 2019

Do we even need a specialist spinner for the WC? We did fine without one in 2015, and it’s not like Lyon or Zampa are lightyears ahead of Short and Maxwell. I would like to see someone like Faulkner or Agar down the order as it deepens our batting immensely and gives us the option to play more hitters. Something like this for the WC (going off current form/ Warner and Smith included):
1. Warner
2. Short
3. Smith
4. Marsh
5. Stoinis
6. Maxwell
7. Wade
8. Faulkner/ Agar
9. Cummins
10. Starc
11. Hazlewood/ Richardson/ some other quick

Finch gets back in if his form picks up. Lynn in the squad also.

India square the ledger but Aussies go down fighting in ODI thriller

I don’t get the continued hype around NCN and Stanlake, the same applies to Hazlewood in ODIs. They both seem like bowlers a team can target as they have no variation and usually bowl gun barrel straight. Richardson and Behrendorff looked very good in the first ODI and I’d pick them for the WC if they keep performing (probably have Cummins in over Behrendorff at full strength).
