What made you fall in love with rugby league?
Great story. My Dad is Italian and also football (soccer) background but he got into league as much as anyone. I grew up on a mix of League, football and cricket and to this day those are my three passions when it comes to sport.

Brilliant! I didnt know about the Panthers beating the Dragons. Back then you would have heard all about these great Dragon players I’d imagine, so it would have been huge to knock them off in only the 2nd home match ever played by the club!
What made you fall in love with rugby league?
Turvey was a bit of a childhood hero! The chip and chase and the covering tackles were brilliant!

Hard to believe Guildford would have a dairy farm these days! How good was the Eels team in the 80s!

Good idea for an article. Wish I had thought of it 😉
There are too many NRL clubs in Sydney
Great reply. Nice to read.

Where is says ‘Roar Guru’ below your name is not there by mistake.

Central Coast has a great ground and is a RL area. Perfect for RL and rewarding RL heartland.

No worries mate. Always love a sport discussion.

It’s true it doesn’t look good but whilst Politis is there Easts simply remain a strong club you would have to think going on history.

It’s hard for people on the peninsula to assosiate themselves with people not in that area. I remember when we beat Warringah in a cricket semi final back in 2002 and they were good enough to invite us to their clubhouse for a beer after the match. All their grades got together and sung their team song and one of the lines went something like ‘and if you dont like it you can bugger off west’. Although i thought it was a pretty funny line and a good team song, it sort of says a bit about the mentality of people in the area. It was a good match btw, we made 136 and they were 4-100 but we took 6-10 and won by 26 runs. Greg Ryan’s 64, a Dragons fan, was huge for us.

Just suggesting it’s a long way to go mate. Even further from Bondi.

I was born a North Sydney Bear, and will die a North Sydney Bear. None of that for me.
Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney
Those joint ventures are 20 years ago Fred. Souths fought for their survival, the others didn’t.

You are going back a long way. In recent history you can’t fault the Roosters for on field competitiveness and success.
Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney
Although it would never happen to have a team east, west, north, south and south-west makes perfect sense. Chance of it happening is zero just because of history and tradition. But it would suit Sydney perfectly.

Nice thoughts here mate. Well done.

That’s the precise times they will need to panic.
Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney
The fact you call them St.Geroge and ignore the Illawarra, and Tigers and ignore the Wests perfectly shows the problems with joint ventures. You couldnt have done it any more perfectly.

Nice thoughts. Thanks for the good reply.

I have driven from Homebush to Camobelltown many times. It may be classified as Sydney, but i needed to fill up petrol before I left home.
Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney
The Wests Tigers is meaningless. They dont know what they are or want to be. The Dragons should be looking after the South Coast, not brushing them.
Joey and Freddie are right: There are too many teams in Sydney
This is about respecting tradition without saying the words ‘respecting tradition’. If you couldnt see that I apologize.

Fantastic BA! The old days of all 3 grades at Belmore… that was great! 12pm kick off , 1.30pm reserve grade and then 3pm you’d see the players for the first time. No on the ground warm ups, just a mystery of waiting for your heros to run out of the tunnel. Much preferred it that way.
