Didn’t last year with that lot.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Newcastle Knights - halves face competition from new recruits but season hinges on Ponga

All of Melbourne, Warriors and Broncos have stadiums that would be considered big enough to host finals footy. Shark park, not so much.
Not sure how your argument fits in with Renegade’s comment?

NRL News: Fans up in arms over stadium policy but Abdo unmoved, Croker doesn't want pity recall, Olam rising to challenge

Marzew isn’t out, plus there’s a fellow named Dom Young on the other edge. I’ve heard he can score a try or two. I mean, he’s only leading the try scoring this year.

The Roar’s NRL expert tips and predictions Round 24: Pressure mounts as time runs out to make the finals cut

An extra 40 minutes on a flight in order to gain the advantage of around 50,000 parochial fans at Suncorp stadium whilst playing against a Sydney team?
I’d say that’s a bit of an advantage.

Round 10 Talking Points: Should be two Magic Rounds, Cody-Latrell combo can light up Blues, Cowboys giddy up

How long is a televised AFL game compared to an NRL game? I’m betting that the extra $$ are there because with more viewing time, there is more time for advertisements. Also, there are more regular season games, which would again add to the viewing time.
There is also the Sky broadcast figures which nobody seems to include, but they are directly connected to the NRL as they have a NZ team in the comp.
Not saying who is right or wrong, but there are multiple ways to look at the figures and come up with reasons as to why something is the way it is.

What is Australia's most popular sport?

Because that is the exact reason it was set up in the first place. It was never based on how good the team was, it was based on if the country had an established and self-sustaining local competition to build its international footprint.

As soon as you remove the chance to play SOO from some players, they won’t play for Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, etc., and then you’ll have tier-1 nations playing with reserve-grade quality players.

They need time to establish their own competitions to be able to develop their locals into international quality players. Otherwise, the Rugby League World Cup will continue to be filled with NRL and SL players.

If we try to fix this too quickly, we risk having it blow up in our faces. Remember, the NRL took over 100 years to get to where it is today. It may not be fixed in our lifetime, but the right plan and management will have it continue to grow and get better long after we kick the proverbial bucket.

Tiers for Years: Samoa and Tonga set to stay in Tier 2 until 2030, ending 'bulls--t' Origin eligibility debate

Which professional athletes are generating this revenue?
All of the top 30 or maybe just the top 20 or so?
Perhaps that’s the reason why the highest-paid players are the ones playing First grade regularly and the lowest-paid players are still learning the basics and honing their skills so they too can one day join the elite.

Liken it to an apprentice that does their 3-4 years training so they can one day become a full-time tradie. Even then they will get paid based on their skills and talent at their job, and if they are no good at it, or don’t enjoy it, they will have to change their trade/job to find what works for them.

If NRL players want more money they need to stop sulking and start strutting

“committed socialist such as the lefts pin up boy Adolf”
I’m pretty sure Adolf was a Fascist, which is on the completely opposite end of the political spectrum to Socialists.

To be fair, I’ve run the numbers on this and it’s a fair argument that the previous year’s top 4 are the best shot at winning the next year’s premiership.
In fact, just in the past 5 years, the only team to not win a premiership the year after collecting the Minor Premiership was the Roosters in 2018, and they finished the previous year 2nd.
Here’s what I found…
Teams 1-4 – 16 wins 70%; Teams 5-8 – 4 wins 17%; Teams 9-12 – 2 wins 9%; Teams 13-16 – 1 win 4%.
That’s based on 1999 winners to present (1998 winners Brisbane came 1st in SL, but it’s not NRL so didn’t include it.)

Early NRL Premiership odds: Here's your chance to cash in or look very foolish later on

Reynolds lived in the eastern suburbs of Sydney which are generally much cooler than Sydney’s outer suburbs.

Million Dollar Man: Scorned by Souths, it's Reynolds to the rescue in Brisbane

Probably Mann or Hoy to start with but once Bailey Hodgson gets a shot, he should cement the spot.

Will Jarrod Mullen be able to play in the NRL?

In the end, many commentators, coaches, players, the MRC and the judiciary all agreed that what he did was reckless and deserved 6 weeks on the sideline.
What Gould fails to see is that many people in Rugby League have played the game and all have differing opinions on various subjects. It just goes to show that sometimes having “insider knowledge” on the processes and environment the players are in doesn’t make you correct in your opinion.

How did everyone get Latrell Mitchell's hit on Joseph Manu so wrong?

Good points but what position is Watson going to play? Bench utility, the same position he is playing now when he’s not starting at lock.
The Roosters have Radley starting at lock and he can play decent minutes so Watson seems to be taking a step backwards in terms of playing time and influence.
I can’t see this move helping him make any rep teams in the future.

I agree 👍

They can spread the 1 match bans over a few weeks I believe to make sure they are able to field a team.

I don’t know about your comment regarding Maroons fans getting behind their players despite any reservations. The decision to make DCE halfback and then captain were met with a lot of negativity from north of the border.
Given his performance in this series and comments post-game, the negativity is alive and well for DCE.

NSW picking Mitch Moses is a wasted opportunity

The problem is that he pulled the plug, not the club, and it’s not like he was a long time mainstay for the Knights either. Overall he’s played 9 games for the Knights with only 3 which could be conceived as good (all 2020).

In saying that, it would have been nice for a player that has played 270 games to be sent off in fine fashion, but I guess it is the drawback of being a journeyman.

Fan power: Knights supporters share what they really think about the Lodge signing

Thankfully he has retired that “man bun” hairdo he used to have. I liked him as a player but that hairstyle, 😔 😢 👎

Forgotten former Knight lights up the Super League with phenomenal last-second try

If Ponga was in the team from round 1, I’d say the Knights score at least 12 points (2 tries) more each game, or they would be at least 12 points better off with 1 extra try scored and 1 saved with his defensive calls during opposition attacking raids.
That would have given them a 4-0 start, so the attack is definitely one of the Knights issues in need of addressing at the moment.

NRL Round 5 teams: Ponga returns for Knights, more injury returns on the cards

I’d say the link between Manly winning with/without Tom has more to do with Des Hasler’s game plans and DCE’s ability to implement them.
Don’t get me wrong, Turbo is a very good player and he could go on to be one of the great fullbacks of the modern era, but to put him up there with Johns and Smith in terms of influence is overlooking too many factors in what made those 2 players such good leaders on the field as well as how they were able to inspire the players around them.
That’s just my opinion.

Hear me out: Tom Trbojevic is one of the best players of all time

I loved watching Royce play, but I would’ve given Bedsy the nod personally (at least until Smith is officially retired).

The NRL all-star team of one-club stalwarts

Saifiti was NSW best forward and I think should have been included in that Australian merit squad. Don’t know why he would be/should be dropped.

Fittler learns from Origin series defeat

I think that would come down to Jimmy the Jet passing Bellamy’s coffee test.
Somehow I can’t see that happening.

Should the Dragons take a punt on James Roberts?

I think Billy Slater will win it.

Generally, it’s hard to poll votes when your team is constantly losing. Especially when the losses are by big margins and the opposition team gets all the points.
