Fair enough. You can consider that imprint of the Chief’s fist on your chin the Novocastrian stamp of approval. 👍 😊

Who does a Queenslander bandwagon this year?

I can guarantee you sir, that Newcastle hates QLD more than they hate Sydney. In fact, Brisbane would have to be the city Newcastle hate the most.

Both established in 1988, Newy was always thought of as the poorer little brother to Brisbane, and was always looked down upon with disdain by the Origin calibre squad that was the Broncos.

The only Maroon things in Newcastle that are accepted are our adopted sons, Ponga, Glasby, Guerra, Lee, Tuala, Moga, Mann and for the rest of this year, McCullough whom for 49 weeks of the year are honorary Novocastrians. Those other 3 weeks, they symbolise everything wrong with Rugby League. 😛

Who does a Queenslander bandwagon this year?

Looking at those figures from a city’s attendance point of view, it means Sydney had a total of 86 games over the 24 round season for a total attendance of 1,184,112. If you look at how many people that works out to be per round, it is 49,338.
So there are more people in Sydney attending games every week than any other city.
However, if you look at it based on a percentage of their populations the figures show a clear winner for attendance vs. population based on the city…
Townsville – 7.64% of 178,860
Newcastle – 5.91% of 322,278
Canberra – 3.87% of 395,790
Gold Coast – 2.05% of 540,559
Brisbane – 1.29% of 2,280,000
Sydney – 0.94% of 5,230,000
Auckland – 0.83% of 1,657,000
Melbourne – 0.33% of 4,936,000
Just food for thought.

Which club really gets the NRL's best home crowds?

The flu has a mortality rate of roughly 0.1%.
COVID19 has a mortality rate of roughly 3.5%.

That is a bit more concerning than a “mild flu”.

Taken from the Live Science web site;
“Still, the death rate for COVID-19 appears to vary by location and an individual’s age, among other factors. For instance, in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak, the death rate reached 2.9%; in other provinces of China, that rate was just 0.4%, according to the China CDC Weekly study. In addition, older adults have been hit the hardest. The death rate soars to 14.8% in those 80 and older; among those ages 70 to 79, the COVID-19 death rate in China seems to be about 8%; it’s 3.6% for those ages 60 to 69; 1.3% for 50 to 59; 0.4% for the age group 40 to 49; and just 0.2% for people ages 10 to 39. No deaths in children under 9 have been reported.”

Those figures for anyone aged 50+ are very worrying. More than 1 in 100 chance you could die is a terrible thing to have to hanging over your head, 1 in 10+ if you are aged 70+!

Please keep in mind that whilst you may not be in the danger zone for this virus, you can contract it and spread it to those who are. They are yours and our loved ones and we need to do everything we can to keep everybody as safe as possible.

What’s more important: Public health or footy?

So on that basis, any club that doesn’t want to register a contract for an older player can be taken to court for age discrimination?
All he has to say is that he has played the sport his entire life an knows nothing else.

Israel Folau and the governing bodies who are powerless to govern

I agree with your points about Boyd having a lot of experience, especially in the great teams he has been involved in, which should give him a good indicator of the kind of form he needs to produce to be a 1st grade player.
For mine, the biggest indicator last year that he was no longer a 1st grader (or not capable of delivering 1st grade quality on a weekly basis) was that during the middle of the season, just after a game where he had a few of his defensive mind farts, he declared that he believed his form was good and that he was giving 100% each week.
He is done, he unfortunately just doesn’t realize it yet.

What to do with Darius Boyd?

Just get yourself injured and your entire contract can be paid out without any effect on the cap if it leads to your retirement.

What to do with Darius Boyd?

And he still maintains it was racism that kept him out of the NSW and Australian squads even though Daley’s mother is Aboriginal. 😂

DCE should never be mentioned amongst that group of play makers. Yes he is good, but they were elite in their craft. I have doubts that DCE can make that last step up in his play making ability to reach their levels.

Latrell doesn't warrant superstar money

Honestly though, shouldn’t his manager have not brought this up the week of the GF? It is his job to look after his players best interests, including news stories that could potentially harm them.
The media is just doing what media does, reporting news as it hears it.

To make more of grand final week, the NRL must start internationally

Considering some teams need to wait 15-20 years between premierships, and the Broncos now have 6 to their name, another 40-50 years waiting would be nice 😛 😁
In reality, once they get their cap/personnel issues sorted out, they will be right back in the mix, and primed for the haters again, myself included. 😊

Why the hell do I have to support the Sydney team in the grand final?

Knights having to forward pay players’ salaries to get up to the minimum spend of the cap was 2 years ago, not last year.
That was before they had Ponga, Klemmer, Pearce, etc. on the books.

Knights, Titans and Sharks must clean up off-field mess

I think you’re referring to James McManus.

Kalyn Ponga’s out of luck then.

Wade Graham goes alright 😉

The biggest problem with looking at stats to see a players form is there is 1 aspect of a player’s form that can’t be quantified.
Effort.
It is arguably the most important thing when looking at a players form.
If they have lots of effort, but plays just aren’t coming off, they look good on the field but the stats don’t reflect that. When they are putting in the effort and it’s all working, then you get the stats to back it up.

Reckon Darius Boyd's stats prove he's in terrible form? That's where you're wrong

Must correct 1 part of this article…
Andrew Johns did beat a lot of those players in Origin.
2005 QLD had Slater (replaced by Bowen for game 3), Smith, Lockyer and Thurson and he beat them in game 2 and brained them in game 3 (he didn’t play game 1 due to injury).

In saying that, as good as Mitchell Pearce is & potentially can be, he is and never will be on the same level as Andrew Johns. Not many are.

Mitchell Pearce, thy time is now

The players didn’t play for Pay, they played for Tolman in his 250th game.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 15

If I was going with Pearce, I’d like to see a creative running player like Walker next to him. He’d be better for the run as well, and did set up some nice plays after he came back on the field.

Pearce provides Fittler with much-needed experience, much-needed scapegoat

The problem arises when 2 clubs fight for an ageing player, 1 club offers a 2 year contract and the other offers a 4 year contract. Both for the same $ per year.
What to do then when the player needs to retire due to an ageing body with 1.5 years left on their contract? The club that signed him did so because they offered more years. Why should they be let off for making a bad decision that helped them in the short term?

Not necessarily saying this is the South Sydney/Inglis case, but this is why it is not so clear cut and easy for the NRL to deal with.

Greg Inglis announces immediate retirement from NRL

Given the way they all were made to be in the same team, I hope we never do see the like again.

Greg Inglis announces immediate retirement from NRL

He is entitled to his views and opinions on social media. No one is denying him that. He was never banned, nor will he be. That, right there, is freedom of speech.
He did, however, breach the social media policies of his contract. He is employed by a brand, he is a representative of that brand, and as such, he needs to carry himself at all times as a representative of that brand. If he uses his social media accounts to post statements that go against the beliefs and standings of that brand, they have the right to no longer be associated with him.
Remember, sport is a business, not just a recreation.

NRL redemption: Is Israel Folau headed back 'home'?

I don’t want to speak for Nat, but what I get from his comments is that it is one thing to physically assault 1 person, it is another to potentially damage the mental health and self worth of a group of individuals. Individuals that have to deal with bigotry, childish remarks and being treated as less that human for much of their lives.
There have been many instances in which a person has taken their life due to a “stupid social media comment”.
Imagine this, a young player coming through the ranks, idolizes Izzy and wants to be him. This young player is gay, and has been ostracized by his peers since a young age because he was different. Union is the only thing in his life, the one thing that gives him reason to get up in the morning and the only thing he dreams about as he goes to sleep. Then one day his idol, the person he respects more than anyone else in the world comes out and says he is going to hell just because he was born the way he was.
How would you feel after that?

NRL redemption: Is Israel Folau headed back 'home'?

You’re having a cry over someone calling you names after you referred to them as simple?
I think you were directing that question at the wrong person.

NRL redemption: Is Israel Folau headed back 'home'?

It’s not as much on the paddock as it is in the reserves. Having access to such a large catchment area gives them plenty of local talent to look at and identify as potential future stars. The corporate support gives them the financial advantage to sign these kids up before any other clubs can get to them, thus giving them a better advantage to identify the best of the best and let the rest go.
Remember, the salary cap only covers the top 30 players. All players under this, those paid under the minimum $70,000 p/a are reserve players. They can have as many as they like, and if they have the funds, they can sign them up before a lot of the poorer clubs can.

The 2019 Brisbane Broncos are struggling and it won't get any better
