The comment about accountability is important. Hamish Maclennan needs to be accountable for his coach pick. He is also accountable for the failure of centralization and fall over of private equity should both those come to pass. The boards and heads of super franchises all should have their heads on the block for ongoing poor returns. They are board members of a failing business , the business of rugby in their states. But who triggers the accountability beyond Eddie leaving ?

The reffing in this game was a step down . First half was procession of nit picking maul penalties gifting abs momentum. No team can withstand abs getting the sort of possession they got in that first half. Last weekend in the NZvIrleand and SAvFrance you hardly heard the ref call “advantage” .

Problem with the hands on the ground call is that all year any person putting their hand beyond the ball on the ground was deemed as infringing . I’m glad okeefe backed off big time in that game and let the game go. He tends pick a team and punish but in this game let the game go and it was much better for it.

Read an interview with Clive Woodward where he mentioned what I think was the sliding doors moment for the wallabies. The loss to all blacks when the French ref penalized for time wasting. A win there and rennie likely survives . No real consequence for that ref – he was hidden for a few games but is back ruining games now.
People will say it’s the structural issues in RA that are the issue but at least rennie had the team competing.
On structural issues I was happy to see coverage in the local paper re u16 and u19 super comps. My happiness was blunted by the focus on the “league” star who dominated . This is an issue. Contracted league stars need to be let go by union. Best to focus coaching and resources on kids who want to play rugby.

They’re a lot of people talking about how the entire grassroots and pathways for players and coaches needs review. In an alternative world where rennie was allowed to coach through couldn’t RA have employed Jones as a director of rugby to review these prior to coming in as a coach or not after the WC. If he genuinely cared about Australian rugby he would have taken that review on and then progressed to coaching maybe . The way the rennie transition went down was a disgrace and the experimentation with youth in a World Cup is even worse. This terrible result will lead to declining interest in school and club rugby and that’s on RA and EJ

I really hate the stuff about culture of losing explaining the non selection of hooper and cooper. Especially in coopers case as he was stamped “ not for selection” by cheikas wallaby regime.

Yes but if tupou and Skelton are ruled out after wales match then new players couldn’t play Portugal either so first game would be a final. If wanting impact now then decisions need to be made sooner rather than later. I don’t think Jones would call up any of the overlooked experienced players anyway.

If this is the rule then a decision should be made pre wales re Tupou and Skelton just in case we fluke a win over wales by greater than seven points and proceed to play offs

Can’t see Fiji beating any of the top four with their lineout issues. Can’t believe we couldn’t exploit that superiority in the final 20min . If I’m RA I’m trying to set up a Fiji series or extra matches as an add on next year. Play it at smaller grounds if you’re worried about crowds. Keep developing Fiji for expanded rugby championship.
