I think I heard somewhere that he would end up at 10?

Five things: Aussie sides finally discover what it takes to compete against Kiwis, rookie outshines World Cup Wallaby

What about Wright at 10?
If he’s putting players into space like Christy says and has a boot and some speed…

Five things: Aussie sides finally discover what it takes to compete against Kiwis, rookie outshines World Cup Wallaby

Ditto.
It’s still the hope that kills ya

ANALYSIS: Battle for the gain-line to decide if ‘Tah tough’ Waratahs can go back-to-back against Kiwi teams

Agreed.
However, I like the fact he’ll have another few years to get some more experience under his belt, then hopefully step into the gig.
It’s the right call for now.

'We'll sack him and be in the same position': Ex-Wallaby condemns Larkham snub as Schmidt deal CONFIRMED

I’m happy with this appointment.
Although I note the irony of someone who shuns the limelight has already released an autobiography…

Chasing stability over pipedreams and rent-a-quotes - why RA chose an 'Ordinary Joe' to move on from Eddie as Wallabies coach

Aren’t they being signed well before they leave school?
Can’t help matters.
Also, as has been mentioned countless times, the sheer numbers of spots on NRL squads makes it an easier option.

'You can't sell a secret': Biggest issues facing Australian rugby - and why it's in better shape than meets the eye

I’m also fairly sure that the AB’s mastered the art of the deliberate knock-down.
We should always aim to get more tries scored – but I’m only 50/50 with the yellow. Maybe it should only be for offences within the 22 or something? Penalise the rest?

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

RWC finals are never really a spectacle. Especially in wet, attritional conditions.
Comparing the 2 codes is like test cricket to T20.
I know which appeals to the kids.
Rugby is an acquired taste

The Wallabies are the Wests Tigers - Neither fan base will be happy with that comparison or their team's prospects

Begrudging respect for the Poms here.
It seems the Poms took the space the Wallabies were aiming to have, ie, get through the pool, hopefully win a quarter-final, then see how we go in the semi…

UK VIEW: 'Utter heartbreak' for 'brilliant, cunning, courageous' Poms in WC semi 'undeservedly' won by Boks

“You just got to watch the quarterfinals at the weekend. We’re not at that level. And we can’t pretend to be at that level. But can we be at that level by 2027? Yes, we can,” said Jones.

Problem is, all those teams will be 4 years better by 2027.

Eddie Jones says he needs to 'give myself an uppercut' but '100 percent' committed to coaching Wallabies

Interesting read as always. Thanks very much Geoff.
Given your example of the Scott Barrett TMO interference, I think this is a good thing. Clearly cynical actions in a scoring position should be penalised harshly.
Most often I hate TMO interference.
How about we let the “assistant referees” actually assist? Rule on forward passes, offside and be the second/third set of eyes…

The Wrap: Wallabies are on their way home - can they please take the TMOs with them?

If I remember rightly Rogers was OK – but Sailor was a waste of space that night.
It was “rugby weather” and needed rugby smarts and agility. Not a robotic barge runner with the manoueverability of the Manly ferry!
The Poms exploited him all night.
Eddie shouldn’t have been awarded the current job based on historical evidence!

SPIRO ZAVOS: Eddie Jones' coaching flaw is his belief that rugby is the same game as league

I’d say the more flowing game would be AFL.
Agree with everything else

Parkes life: 'Mate, the name’s Shag and I’m here to help save Australian rugby'

Punt him without a payout. He’s an overpaid PR practitioner these days.

SPIRO ZAVOS: My message to Hamish McLennan and Eddie Jones: 'In the name of God, go'

Ah Sheek, I just can’t see myself celebrating NRL.
I’m far more an AFL fan and actually watch more AFL than rugby matches – because they are more easily accessible!

This is the brutal reality: There are Aussies desperate to see Wallabies fail, and many want to see the sport's complete demise

Hey Dani, I’m only talking about the headlines generated. I didn’t feel a lot of love, nor engagement with Eddie.
Using past tense is my hope they will be rid of Eddie asap.

This is the brutal reality: There are Aussies desperate to see Wallabies fail, and many want to see the sport's complete demise

I wish I’d written that Sheek. (Great article too Ben)
The highlight of your post is the line from your 1st XV captain. Not what he wrote per se, it’s the fact that after nearly 50 years, you’re still in contact because you have a shared love of the game.
To me, that’s what rugby is all about. Long-term relationships built on mutual effort, pain, enjoyment, success, support, values, hardship.
I feel there’s a lot of mercenary short-term thinking happening at the top these days which is killing the sport here in Australia.
And that’s just not good enough.

During the second half of the game yesterday morning, I typed this message to a bunch of mates (many of whom I played rugby with 35 years ago…)

“What has happened to the Wallabies is both incomprehensible and reprehensible. They have taken our most beloved national winter team and made them irrelevant.
It’s appalling and embarrassing.
People like us who should be core supporters don’t even care anymore about the results, or have come to expect incompetence.”

I wish I had the solution. What happened v Wales happened. It’s not “what happened” but the manner it occured. If I was a right-wing shock jock it could be described as “un-Australian”.

This is the brutal reality: There are Aussies desperate to see Wallabies fail, and many want to see the sport's complete demise

Bravo.

This is the brutal reality: There are Aussies desperate to see Wallabies fail, and many want to see the sport's complete demise

Mind you, as a coach, Eddie has been an overpaid PR champion for RA.
If he was a Kiwi coach and blew up the team like he did, we would nuke Auckland!

This is the brutal reality: There are Aussies desperate to see Wallabies fail, and many want to see the sport's complete demise

Won the fight and the penalty!

Was sitting high up in the old “wings” of Stadium Australia when Kef’s head pushed through the Kiwis to dot the ball down.
Incredible memory!

Greatest XV: 'Bloody special': Three meat pies and flailing fists announced Toutai Kefu to the world

Couldn’t agree more Torgs.
I care less about who the comments are from, more that they may actually make some sense.
(However, I also suspect that because Australia isn’t currently a dominant force in the game, many of our southern hemisphere protagonists feel any Australian perspective isn’t valid)
If you put a 6-man bench in place;
You’d get more players playing more minutes across more teams. Creates more depth, perhaps?
Would only need 21 match-day players instead of 23.
Even up the contest between big & small when fatigue sets in.
Probably a more entertaining game overall

'Seriously': Ex-Scotland coach calls on World Rugby to 'act' on Springboks after 'abusing bench' against All Blacks

He should always be first choice for the bench – which I mean to be a good thing not a sledge

Eddie to resist last-minute Wallabies RWC changes despite injury clouds, Samu opens up on axing

I look and see Wendell Sailor ahead of O’Connor & Edgerton on percentage.
I refer to my comment from yesterday that Big Dell was a Bid Dud when it mattered

Greatest XV: When Ben Tune, who 'embodied everything Aussies admire in a winger,' delivered a perfect, brutal moment

How about Eddie picking Wendell Sailor ahead of Joe Roff?
It was a pure rugby night. Wet, slippery and obviously a tight game.
How much better would it have been to have an accomplished, experienced winger versus an over-hyped leaguie.
The Poms kept turning “Big Dell” around and exploiting the space in behind. He was built like a boat and about as agile.
What a monumental f-ck up that was.

I hope history doesn’t repeat with Vunivalu. Would love to make the final though!

Greatest XV: Matt Burke's balls of steel and how one word from John O'Neill sent the Wallabies 'nuts'

This is the way for me.
Existing team infrastructures. Minimal interference with club rugby. More game time for contracted players. Additional players called up as needs be.
Super Rugby Pacific finishes July. Super Rugby AU starts August, runs for 8 weeks plus final/s.
Maybe that final is a double header with the club rugby GF of the state that hosts the SRAU final? (Maybe all rounds are double-headers with Club rugby – or even school rugby matches…)
Play it at Ballymore, Concord, Brookie, Leichhardt, etc. How about a regional aspect, Newcastle, Gold Coast or similar?
Clubs, community, continuity, lower cost, player development, more product…
