Richmond missed about 3-4 sitters at least – the scoreline definitely flatters us. Agree about Ambrose though.

The midfield is a discussion for another article, but I would like to see Hocking in to see how he goes giving us more grunt.

The stranded swingman: What to do with Cale Hooker?

True. However, we’re still getting caught out in defence on occasion. We need someone that can replace Hooker when he needs to swing back, because I don’t know if Stewart will be able to in the long run. I hope so though.

The stranded swingman: What to do with Cale Hooker?

Fair call mate. I still think Hooker needs to play defence because we’re getting scored too easily against, but I think that will come once we work out the best permanent fix to play that 2nd forward. Our forward line is looking good this year, but we still struggle to score in patches. Definitely the best it’s looked in a while.

I wish I had the same confidence that Watson was staying.

Will your club's over 30s stay or go (Part 1)

Agreed, and the simple fact of the matter is Watson would easily slot into most if not all midfields in the AFL.

I agree, wouldn’t be too bad as a forward, but I still think we need to keep playing players that have a a long term future. I’d hate to take away from Fantasia’s learning just to stick Dempsey in a pocket.

He’ll have a blinder against Carlton in Round 23 and get a contract next year. Mark my words.
Also, Jason Laycock and Courtney Johns.

Pretty marginal= getting 15+ votes 4 years in a row?

12th in 2010.

2014 and 2015 are excusable. Plenty of stars in the AFL don’t match those placings.

I feel that we can’t properly judge what effect it will have on the club until we are 5/10 years into the future. Carlton lost Goddard and Wells as a direct result of the dramas, but they easily could have been Mitch Thorp and Cale Morton type players. It’s a very fair point though. I think the next 3 years will say a lot about the long-term future of the club.

I’m not sure if I want people to go easy on us though. I’d rather be hated than pitied.

I think this is what I’ve liked most about this year. Everyone has become disappointed with losing. Daniher’s getting the swagger of an elite forward in the making, and I think he has learnt a lot this year. Being a younger supporter, I’ve never had the experience of a truly great Essendon team, but you can see the signs of the arrogance as you mentioned back.

An Essendon supporter’s perspective on 2016

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. It will be interesting to see what the approach is. People seem split on whether next year will see us return strong, or whether we will target 2018 as a year to attack instead.

An Essendon supporter’s perspective on 2016

I agree. However, even if say a Watson never returns to his peak, he offers a hardened body to protect the younger players. Goddard and Zaha have been valiant this year, but they’ve been overwhelmed. Hopefully having Heppell and Co return means that Parish, Francis, Merrett and the younger brigade are lifted to another level.

I also hope it means Dempsey finds some form.
