Some interesting ideas there, Griffo. I’d certainly welcome any system that gave context to games played between WC’s. That said, I tend to agree with Brian below too – I’m probably behind the times and need to accept that T20 is now viewed as the primary vehicle to bring new countries into the game. That said, I think that there are plenty of associate members who most certainly aspire to World Cup representation.

Thanks TigerBill. Personally, I enjoyed the 2003 World Cup the most, followed by 2015 (but that might be because I was a bit older and able to go to a few games away from my home town).

For mine, an Ireland defeat of Pakistan and a Kenya defeat of the West Indies (to pull a couple of examples) outweigh the blow outs every single time.

Thanks Paul and Camo. I guess I stand guilty as charged in so far as your statement in your first response, Paul, is exactly what I’m saying, that India’s demands are compromising the composition of the game’s premier international championship event.

Brian, I rather suspect that you’re right. That said, I think there should still be a place for ODI’s and most certainly for World Cups going forward. I’d rather see ODI’s played between World Cups actually count towards qualification for subsequent World Cups, so that we have less meaningless series but instead play these games with some form of context.

Thanks Camo, I’m guessing from your last line and your McD surname that you enjoyed Scotland’s win over their southern neighbours two years ago?!

You raise a good point in that there doesn’t seem to be a good reason why we couldn’t play more than one World Cup game on a single day too.
