Some interesting points Old school, the one about others injured who could have tagged along instead of Jorgo particularly. Maybe Jorgo is the better for it? Maybe all those manoeuvrings is about his development? We’ll see. As before it was a straight from central casting shit show. I’d wiped Australian rugby union for the last month but there’s a lot of clarity now.

'What the hell is going on?': Jilted Wallaby reveals Jones chaos and tells coaching flop to 'at least be honest'

Jorgensen pre ACL and then, if not selected maybe no broken ankle, stood as a big part of the future. But rushed back after the ACL?? Absolute madness. The lack of consideration for this kids future was disgusting.

Totes…so who would you have as half?

I reckon he’s needed in the back row. I cant remember if he played centre when the sharks won the comp but in this side we need someone who can pass the ball. And I don’t mean the Lomax version of low percentage rubbish.

Bird wants to fly back to the future with positional change after Flanagan reunion: 'I can get back to my best, if not better'

Well if they got over the broncos in 2006 you would have Scott Hill as a genuine contender for 5/8, lock and most probably a frisked all time bench player. What a footballer…

Legitimate titles or not, who makes the Melbourne Storm’s greatest ever team of grand final winners?

Barring injury, I thought Ikitau and Kerevi were absolute no-brainers. Both quality players with some level of affinity for how each other plays. There are solid centre combinations at the heart of any successful team. So important. It really was a s–tshow.

I bet u do love thinking big, Phil Mc Kraken.

Using the NRL as a political football for your Pacific solution is a dumb idea, Albo - and a waste of taxpayers' money

Yeah you’re spot on. 5 Hrs to everywhere for every team in the organisation. And Storm weren’t “successful” in an AFL heartland, they were an absolutely strategic must-have for the NRL to compete with the AFL. Stakes were too high. It wasn’t the case then, as is readily apparent now, but it turned out that they signed (and kept) arguably the best coach of the last twenty years – with arguably some of the best players in key positions in the last twenty years. Astute recruitment in all other positions and unprecedented professionalism across the board set a new standard. I’m a St George supporter, they have done terrible things to us, but they’re success has made the NRL.

No mate, sorry to disappoint.

Bit early for that, as it’s a bit early for another team in general. But Ipswich, central coast qld, central coast nsw, north Sydney (ha!)…places where the game is part of the fabric of society. The NRL cant be expanding any more while some Sydney clubs struggle, in my opinion. And Redcliffe are only a temporary success, lets see what happens when Bennetts contract is up. Will he kill it like he nearly did with the Knights and Dragons?

Yeah I don’t get the big love for Perth as an NRL team. There’s not the depth of community commitment to League. Union yes, with the expat Saffas and Poms, but not league. Plenty of regions more deserving and more viable.

It wont happen. If things go awry in PNG the NRL is in deep. It just gives china another thing to pick at. Love the idea of it Tony, they’re hard as there. For example if Saints signed Justin Olam I would be very happy.

Mark Loane, as far as I was concerned in 1977, was the best player Australia had.

'An experienced 10 would have helped': Wallabies open up on on failed World Cup they'll have to 'live with'

It wasn’t that different

Because he’s a slightly overrated fairy? I say that tongue-in-cheek but seriously you can go and watch grade/subbies/etc on any Saturday arvo and see rugby played well. people commit their bodies for nothing but the satisfaction of having competed. It’s there. But corralling that all with the tyranny of distance and funds and goodwill and politics. We all know what we want…

U and the rest of the sewing circle….

Yeah yeah. Extra starch to try and make up for the sad situation of being THE BERRIES. Not sure if they were strawberries, or raspberries, maybe blueberries? I’m thinking mulberries…

Forward pack dominance: A look back at John Sattler and his Cardinal and Myrtle wrecking crew in the 1960-70s

Ron Coote lost his house at Conjola on the NSW south Coast in 2019. A friend put him up in a house a bit further down the coast and i saw him all the time, taking the garbage out etc. Lovely, lovely bloke. Can’t speak highly enough of him. He wasn’t the only one of the souths cohort who were down there, and they all had to deal with that. Ron was so charming that I had to confess I was all in on Rod Reddy giving him some stick. He just smiled and said he was a good bloke and a good footballer. They don’t make them like that anymore.

He’s not an architect, he’s an opportunist.

'I'm so pissed off': Eddie open to walking away from Wallabies if it suits RA, sticks knife into Hoops, Quade

God I’ve been watching you people for the last two months and throwing around this or that name for this or that position gets us nowhere. There’s no obvious path. However we have shitloads of really good players. All over the shop. Only an administration can change things.

'I'm so pissed off': Eddie open to walking away from Wallabies if it suits RA, sticks knife into Hoops, Quade

Some consistently raised points include:
Unbalanced squad, throwing the baby out with the bath water
Injuries to key people
Inexperience
Lack of combinations
Inability to play what’s in front of them and trust their team mates.
Constant silly mistakes, regardless of coach
Etc. We all know it…
My favourite, which comes up often, is that we don’t have the depth. I don’t know but I reckon we might have more adult players going around than Ireland or Wales, or Scotland, or even NZ? And that’s just on a population basis. You could probably say the same for Italy and maybe Argentina too.
That tends to run with the theory about the advent of professionalism in the late 90’s. I think it’s fair to say that Australia took advantage of that earlier than most and the ‘99 World Cup the obvious prize. Super rugby at that time was an absolute joy to watch, with the brumbies leading the way.
A lot has gone wrong since Wilkinson’s shank dropped over the crossbar, but the administration(s) must bear most of the blame. The whole thing about it being an elitist game played (well) by mostly private schools is fundamentally true, and it’s not just players. there is one private school from Sydney that seems to produce in inordinate number of senior administrators. This exacerbates the situation, and they seem out of their depth. Some will know all too well that this schools first XV has only won a handful of games in the last ten years. Is there a correlation? Maybe. But what is for sure is that the haughty attitudes of these kind of schools isn’t helping. There is greater numbers of Polynesian schoolboys playing in these competitions but not many escape the clutches of NRL scouts. They get put on six figure retainers and that is that…
Meanwhile you can go and enjoy a beer and a steak sandwich on the sideline of a second division game and come away thinking that the grassroots are in good shape. I suppose my point is ultimately that it’s a mess and I don’t think anyone can imagine a workable solution.

The horror five minutes that put Wallabies' World Cup on life support as Eddie's huge 10 call falls flat

Hope. That’s all we seem to have. I liked 11 thru 15, although Ikitau might be a more stable option for 13. Otherwise, if you base it on the replies in this thread, we don’t know who is what and where. And we haven’t for a while. Halfback, five-eighth, hooker, both props, at least one second rower and then the back row other than Valentini. And we don’t have a goal kicker. Try as we might Australia has tried to win test matches without known goal kickers in the past. By and large it failed but we scored some lovely tries. This ain’t no smash and grab, this is a smash and get out the dustpan and broom job. And maybe the mop…

'We can be a bloody good team': Eddie says he got selection right and Wallabies can still be RWC threat

I’ve hated Broad but he’s come around for me. Maybe Ive been a bit slow off the mark but now he’s an entertainer! And a good one with a record that has him comfortably on the second shelf, with longevity to throw into the mix as well. Not leaning on his bat either. he’s putting in always. Great career. Memorable.

You can admit it now - if Stuart Broad was an Aussie, he'd be your favourite player

Roderick! My cousins name is Roderick. Not many of you..
