When the NRl gets close to a billion dollars for the next TV Deal expect to see the salary cap increase to 6 million. 6 million divided by 25 is $240000. That will be the average base income for a player in the top 25 in each club. Top that up with sponorship third party deals and you have some pretty happy footballers.

NRL salary cap broken down by the numbers

Harry Kewell will play in Europe next season. He is too good not to.

GCU: from potential champs to potentially extinct?

Of course they are relevant. They are competing within the same market, for the same junior players and for the same corporate dollars. Its a war which the rugby league will win comfortably. The AFL has no chance in Western Sydney. Folau will be back in the NRL within 2 or 3 years.

Hayne versus Marshall as NRL fights off the AFL

$20 Million!!!!!! Jeez they are optimistic. They are playing out of a 12000 seat oval in Rugby League heartland. The swans have a strong enough presence in NSW. Not even avid followers of the game know who most opf the players are. And theyre main drawcard Israel Folau who is also their highest paid player has never played the game in his life!

Forget falafel, GWS Giants are apple pie

Once the excitement around a new sports team in Melbourne fades and the new AFL season edges closer to kick-off, the crowds will drop off and so will all the hype about some new renaissance for Rugby Union.

Life is about to start for the Melbourne Rebels

The crowds are appalling, the community doesn’t really care and with the Titans and Suns proving to be very popular there simply isn’t enough room for Gold Coast United. The FFA should have realised this was going to happen. Expansion happened too quickly.

GCU: from potential champs to potentially extinct?

If the NRL sets out plans to move to Perth, the ratings will hit close to a billion dollars. Surely theres enough money then to further increase the contributions by the NRL to the clubs.

Time elite players were topped up by the NRL

Dumpping a couple of sydney teams will not solve anything. Thousands of fans will be lost to the game and quite possibly jump to other codes. But expansion is key to the NRL future.

Time elite players were topped up by the NRL

When the current crop of young players become elite players, teams like Cronulla will be able to compete with the bigger clubs for them.

Kevin Moores a joke. He drops Barba, replaces players when they are playing well, puts Blake Green at 5/8 who is mediocre at the best of times and buys duds like Mickey Paea and Dene Halatau who are languishing back in NSW Cup. Its a circus.

Tigers too good for Bulldogs

Saying that we can’t score against Germany is a little pessimistic mate. Tim Cahill is unpredictable and we have seen what he can do for Everton in big matches. He sneaks goals all the time. I think the Germans will rely on their power upfront through Podolski or Klose rather then sit back and defend. There will be opportunities in the match for the Aussies to score. If Cahill or Kennedy get a hold of one, anything could happen.

Guessing game begins over injured Kewell

a team in darwin will never work. the populations just too small. i like the idea of a second team in nz though maybe in and around wellington. i think they bidded for a licence not too long ago, the Wellington orcas.

West Australia needs an NRL team by 2013

well your right in saying that there will be an 18th licence. The bears are a certainty for the 17th. lets hope the 18th moves into the West.

I agree. The proposed independent commission will definately see to expanding the game into Perth again. Channel seven has already shown its intention for the game by starting a new show headed by Ray Hadley and Matt Johns that will solely focus on Rugby League and be shown on primetime.

The poms and Saffers would certainly be drawn to the game and you are right in saying that the code of football is running scared at the thought of it. they don’t even get crowds of 9000 for their season matches let alone trial matches.

the reason investors aren’t knocking on the door brissie kid is because David Gallop has focused on the Central Coast and a second qld team in all his discussions with the media. I think he has been scared off by the finacial failure of the previous Perth franchise that folded in the late 90’s. If however Gallop and the nrl indicate that a Perth franchise is on the cards investors wil jjump onboard like they have for the AFL’s march into Western Sydney.

Unfortunately, it seems Clive Palmer is only interested in his own view for the club. Gold Coast sports fans have become disgruntled with his ridiculous ticket prices, arrogance and ignorance for the greater good of te game. If your crowds are so dreadful give a few tickets out for free, let u15s in for free. He hasn’t gopt the ability to turn things around. the a-league needs to step in and hand it over to someone who is capable of sustaining the football club.

Gold Coast United: from the sublime to the ridiculous

Well there might be doubt over the ability of the kiwis to take 20 wickets but our current bowling situation isn’t too good either. Siddles out, Hilfenhaus has disappeared, Johnson has become erratic of late and hauritz doesn’t consistently take the 4 or 5 wickets that we need from a spinner. At the moment only Bollinger looks to provide real spark. I belive Harris should replace Mckay. He had his go and he stuffed up.

Bond talking the talk as Aussies loom

Gorganite, I was referring to the rugby union world cup. Well I will list the 5 teams then, England, Australia, Nz, South Africa, France. I like both codes.

Bring back the Kangaroo tour

If we continue along with the four nations concept, in 15-20 years time the developing nations who participate as the 4th nation will grow to become a greater power, thus ensuring greater competition in the international game. If France, Wales or one of the islander teams become stronger international rugby league will be better for it. Most think that the international competition in union is profoundly stronger. This isn’t the case. Only 4 or 5 team have a real chance of winning the world cup and nations like Italy or Canada are sually on the end of embarrassing scorelines.

The strength of intrenational rugby league can only increase through the continuation of the current 4 nations concept as well as the world cup every 4 or 5 years. In 20 years Rugby League will challenge union internationally. Boycotting an ashes tour, which focuses ony on 2 powerhouses will enhance the prospects of a greater international competition in the long term.
