Imagine the supposed conversation with the recruiter and Eddie, ‘yeah look mate, you need someone who’s going to work really hard, ridicule everyone around them, come up with a new playing style… Someone like me really’

'I feel terrible, but...: Defiant Eddie Jones unveiled as Japan coach, JRFU reveals their version of THAT Zoom call

I keep waiting for Stan/Nine to give me a call to ask my opinion, alas they’ll have to read it here instead.
Absolutely agree most of the Fox team (Kafe, Kearns, Horan, Marto) are so outdated, BIASED and seem to put so little effort in to understanding the laws or researching the players.
I agree with Sean Maloney for his enthusiasm, also love hearing Gordon Bray and agree his ability to inform the viewer should be valued. He does miss things here and there, but we’ll forgive him because he’s about a thousand isn’t he?
Seeing Justin Harrison give it to Andrew Merhtens is quite enjoyable, I’d happily take those guys.
Louise Ransome is class as well on the sideline, she is professional and asks good questions of the players.
For the remainder, I’d really hope they’re unbiased!

How about a new commentary team to go with a new TV deal?

Like your suggestions pm,
I’ll give this a shot:

1. Steven Kitshoff – who doesn’t love seeing a pommy scrum go backwards? That alone gets him in there
2. Bongi Mbonambi – His World Cup was awesome. Justified keeping Marx on the bench imo, and his lineout throwing was key to this.
3. Demba Bamba – barnstorming with ball in hand, he’s only 21 as well!
4. Brodie Retallick – So annoyingly good!
5. Alun Wyn Jones – all that experience, and the best cauliflower ears I’ve seen from a non-front rower.
6. Pablo Matera – carries both the Jaguares and Argies at times. So much passion!!
7. Scott Fardy Ardie Savea – none of this out of position crap, his leg drive gets him here.
8. Duane Vermuelen – a bit long in the tooth but like George Smith as he aged, it seems that’s meant he just knows where to be a bit more.
9. Antoine Dupont – bring back the French flair! This kid is young enough to try things that the opposition aren’t expecting that usually come off.
10. Richie Mo’unga – that Crusaders backline, man it hums and this guy knows how to stroke it.
11. Sevu Reece – lightning quick, and finishes many tries that weren’t because of his footwork.
12. Samu Kerevi – ran over Beauden Barrett, but that is only a snapshot of his tackle-busting.
13. Semi Radradra – a toss up between him and Brad Thorn as the best league converts imo.
14. Damien Penaud – another young Frenchie with talent and speed to burn.
15. Liam Williams – loves a counterattack, and plays well above his weight.

I ran out of steam coming up with another 8 players, but there you have it

Picking an all-world rugby 24

Roar editors- that’s a horrendously misleading title for this article

RUPA demands Super Rugby shake-up

Haha. It’s extremely useful in the context of, ‘I was slightly late’

The Super Rugby Championship XV challenge: Now we’re all in

After initially putting this in the too-hard basket, now that you’ve named all the teams I can’t resist!! Though I’m going to take a slight liberty and do my team in pairs e.g. wingers, halves, props etc. Those that aren’t paired up, I’m just lucky I guess…

Fullback – Joe Roff. Just class, and those angelic torpedoes off the left foot. He’d be my goalkicker too.

Wingers – Joeli Vidiri, Jonah Lomu. Remember the old chequered Blues jersey? These guys introduced me to Super Rugby and the majestic set plays finished off by pure power.

Centres – Jack Goodhue, Ryan Crotty. 2 titles with injury preventing a third. When I think of these guys all I think about is defensive organisation, and let’s be honest they’d need it being outside Quade.

Halves – Quade Cooper, Will Genia. 2010 and 2011 – I reckon I’ve watched those season highlights half a dozen times. Back in the days when these guys had pace, and just absolutely confounded their opponents.

Backrowers – Radike Samo, Beau Robinson, Scott Higginbotham. One word. Niggle. Actually, another couple, the ‘Fro.

Second rowers – Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha. More niggle but also, what a partnership. I heard they’re still playing together in France in a lower division somewhere.

Props – Ben Tameifuna, Sona Taumalolo. This was more for cult value than anything else. In the 2012 season Sona Taumalolo scored 9 tries, and Ben Tameifuna is ongoing proof that no matter how big you are, you’re welcome on a rugby field.

Hooker – Dane Coles. More niggle again, but he’s gotta be the best seagull to ever play the game?

Gee the nostalgia in putting this together, makes me forget it’s a Tuesday morning…
