One-eyed Reds supporter based in Hong Kong and still having a run around in the front row

Great blue sky thinking there Jez. True change requires fundamental restructure and not just tweaking the edges.. Now where can I get one of these Earls Court Drop Bears RUFC polos from ??

Rugby in Australia needs Drop Bears

Good question Bobby. Jock must be injured as surely they’d start him on the wing or off bench for back 3 cover rather then having to scrum halves on the pine.

Great article Greg

Australian rugby's new pyramid (scheme)

No one expects strong math skills from a loose head.. Leave the smarts to the tight heads.

Australian rugby's new pyramid (scheme)

It must be tough to ride the pine with no game time and then get dropped for blokes from the other side of scrum.. Still it creates plenty of competition for places

I continue to be somewhat confused on the reds prop selections. Nonggorr has been on the bench for the last few games gets dropped. Feao swaps sides which has happened before and Hoppert off the bench also swaps from LH to TH. It feels like there has been an extraordinary amount of swapping sides in the front row and also a number of moves between hooking and props with Nasser and Asiata. I’m not sure if that is part of a larger plan from Cam Lillycrap to create a more flexible front row unit rather then having specialists.

Well written Jez….All important journeys begin with the first step

It is time for the Waratahs' Roger Davis to go

Thanks Nic,

The Reds only added more backrowers as later in the game Uru came on and it was at that point I noticed we seemed to have a backrower at every tackle because they were everywhere.

Coach’s Corner Issue 8: Why are the Reds such good finishers?

Agree, Id like to see these guys with game time. The bit I have seen to date of Thomas has been impressive.

Coach's Corner Issue 7: What position for Petaia?

Great write up Harry.
It is interesting how we develop these biases. I don’t recall any triggers but I suspect Simmo started well given he was a Qld Red during the lead up to our last big win. From memory he then moved into the international arena but probably behind the likes of Sharpe, Horwill and Vikerman, all guys that the crowd loved.
So as you mentioned in the comments, it can be difficult when being compared to others that are held in high esteem.
The other possible impact to how we tend to perceive Rob may be that for during that period, including his captaincy in 2016, the wallaby performance had been below expectations. So are we aligning his entry to the international stage with the lackluster performance of the Wallabies ?

Rob Simmons is not lazy

In the general direction of where it is called.

Slipper wants a role in new Wallabies era

We dont have a hooker that can hit the back of a lineout anyway so jumping 8’s doesnt have an impact

Wallabies turn to former British and Irish Lion as forwards coach

Not that it should matter, but who will be holding the whistle on the weekend ? I guess we have dodged a bullet with Nic Berry, as he has the job last week.

So does that mean Angus has the job ?

Super Rugby AU final teams: Lolesio back for Brumbies, Petaia given the all-clear

Couldn’t agree more on both counts Jez.
He stood by his convictions on bringing through a new youthful squad and while it has taken time there are results showing.
I also think credit to those around him as this is a team effort and the asst coaches I suspect have impacted not just the players but also Brad.
It all comes down to this Saturday…….Carn Reds !

Reds reaping rewards of Brad Thorn's rebuild

Great read. Your choice of subjects it brilliant, I would never have thought of Hugh, but the moment I read the title I was keen to know where he had been….

A beautiful story mate. Deepest condolence for your both losses.

I love reading these James. I enjoy the insight you find rather than it just being a list of their accomplishments. Keep them coming.

Great article JD, thanks for taking the time.

A Chiefs fan’s tribute to Dave Rennie

Well written Jez. Fingers crossed the Reds can move on from the player departure woes and galvanize as a team. As for your Tah’s, it concerns me when a new coach is bringing in players at the sunset of their peak. It looks like a lack of confidence to right the ship and hope instead that bringing in seasoned players that will figure out the problems themselves.

What will your team aim to achieve in Super Rugby AU?

For some reason I always felt the same about his size. Now I know you cant believe what you read online but wikipeadia says McMahon is 6’1, Hooper it says is 6ft, Pocock 6’2, Richie McCaw 6’2 and George Smith was 5’11. Everyone is around 100kgs except Pocock but his build is a freak of nature at 115kgs
Seems he is exactly the right size…

I live in Hong Kong and we went through a lot of this earlier than other countries. Companies will instigate, where possible, more working from home. They will also look at staggered working times to reduce the number of people in peak hours. Hand washing, masks (whether they help or not) and regular cleaning by transit companies will create some social distancing and reduce contagion risk. We had our local Rugby finals played in empty stadiums with it being streamed to all supporters..

Australian sport in doubt as government advises against large public gatherings - from Monday

Thanks for a interesting and well written article NorthernPom. I hope he does get some success at the end of his career.

James O'Connor: Messiah or very naughty boy?

we’ll throw out the tah’s and add some Reds Jez than you can join myself, JJ and Tony over there..

How Australia can win the battle of the big men

Hey Jez,

Do you think the Wallabies starters will get a look in for this squad given it is 2 weeks before the RWC kickoff or will Cheik go for the bench and broader squad members to give them game time and a chance to get some combinations ?
