Great read mate and very good points!!
Have heard alot of good quality state and grade cricketers come off after being dismissed for little, and say that “I havent struck the ball any better in a while”.
Do you think the Aussie selectors will give White or Bailey another go in the test arena? I would love to see both of them back there at one stage or another.
I guess for Phil Hughes its a waiting game, and there is nothing wrong with scoring pleanty of first class runs, runs never hurt anyone.

Finding some method to the South African selection madness

Brisbane always find the best international strikers, Sergio Van Dijk was a gun in Brisbane, and he played ok in Adelaide but eventually led to him leaving the A-League. Kosta Barbaquses is a Phoniex product but shapped by Roar. And Berisha is just a head and above the best striker in the league at the moment. Only man who I could see replacing him if they bought from within the league is Shane Smeltz.

Besart Berisha to leave Brisbane Roar for Melbourne Victory

Sorry to hear that Will!!
But thats the amazing thing about Sport and even certain players. For a period of time while watching it, it draws you in to the emotion of it and takes your attention of everything else!!

Who are your all-time favourite cricketers?

Great 5 right there!!
My 5 is alot only from players from the 1995-present era as I am only a young pup, and i only like commenting on players who i have watched.

1- Shane Warne- Need I say more, will be tough for a leg spinner to reach his feats, very smart cricketer and could turn a match on its head… literally! The Gatting delivery case in point.

2-Jacques Kallis- One of the greatest All-Rounders to play test cricket. Was able to step up when South Africa needed it most. Scoring a century in his last test was a fitting way to end a brilliant test career.

3- Brian Lara- Along with some of the coolest carribians to play for the Windies, Lara was right up there. His stroke making and shot selection was impecable and such an amazing batsman to watch. 400!!!!

4- Rahul Dravid- The Great Wall of India himself. This one is for all the times India have batted first and this bloke has just stopped, dug a trench and sat down and slowed the game right down to his tempo. Patience in cricket is a dying quality, Dravid has enough to give to everyone. Great Batsmen and could score pleanty of runs, even if his strike rate was 20.

5- Adam Gilchrist- One of the finest wicketkeeper batsman to walk the earth. An amazing one day cricketer, and vital test player. One could argue that Gilchrist is the reason that wicketkeepers now need to be explosive and good batsmen and cant just be great behind the stumps and ordinary with the stick. That amazing century in Perth will live with me forever.

Who are your all-time favourite cricketers?

Agreed that the selectors should have chosen White over marsh!! White adds so much more to the tem, and would have been a more like for like replacement for Bailey!! Someone who has leadership abilities, bats well and at times can be very explosive!
What I think the selectors got most wrong was the team they selected for the T20’s, where is White and Hodge in that line up???

How did Marsh get picked over White?

I think that Maddinson may be rated a bit too high on your list.
Good quality cricketer but if there was a spot in the test team I dont think he will make the cut.
Burns, Lynn and Silky all have something about them, a different pedigree that sets them apart.
Too be honest I’d rather wait another 2-3 years to see some of these boys playing test match cricket. Let them develop further and score more first class runs!! Never hurt any international cricketer having more experience under their belt.

Ranking Australia's prospective Test batsmen (Part 2)

James Brayshaw and Mark Nicholis should get the sack immediately!!

SPIRO: Big Bash a hit as Channel Nine opts for Mickey Mouse antics

Joe Burns is a great selection for Australia in years to come!!
Many belive he has the caliabre to lead Australia.

Ranking Australia's prospective Test batsmen (Part I)

Very good keeper and good batsmen, I do however believe he is suited more to Test and four-day cricket.

Ranking Australia's prospective Test batsmen (Part I)

I do agree with you that TV producers are trying to get commentators to be more interactive with the players, and its just not working.
However, T20 cricket is very tactical!! Certain players get out to a certain type of bowler or score more through the offside than the onside so by bowling to the weaker side and having smart field settings you are restricting runs.Aaron Finch has a weakness, and thats to bowl very straight to him, so they would bring mid-on and mid-off up and push them wider to draw him into playing straight. All the commentators are doing is pointing out what happening and why, most of the time for the average cricket fan!!

Hey cricket commentators, stop talking to players mid-game, ok?

Yea the White and McGain examples was not so much about the quality more that they played International Cricket and are leg spinners. From memory only other Leg Spinner to play International Cricket in the past decade was Stuie Macgill, unless Cullenn Bailey had a game in the West Indies not entirely sure.

Yes Brett completely agree its great to see the states churning out pleanty of spinners!!
On the Zampa debate, he is a promising young leg spinner, but I have talked to many first graders and some Sydney Thunder players and they have told me he becomes a bit to predicatble, eg Bowling a wrong’n every 4th ball. Apparently he can also lose confidence quickly.

But if those are the only 2 major faults that I have heard of im sure they can be fixed out.

PMs XI Tour Match: England get a win, but some familiar tales remain

Junior tries to pick to many squabbles with Punter, something he used to win against Blewett and Brendon Julian.
Punter is not afraid to speak his mind and call out Waugh when he is incorrect.

Select Hodge and Hogg for T20 World Cup

Which State would he go Matt??
WA has Beer, Agar and Turner
QLD has Cam Boyce and Hauritz
NSW has Lyon, Okeefe and about 18 other spinners
SA has Zampa and Botha
TAS has Rose and Doherty

TAS is known for accepting players from other states and turning them into good state players!
Of the Top of my head Krezja, Gav Robertson and Colin Miller, all furthered their cricket in Tasmania and went on to play International cricket, but are all finger spinners.

VIC however has produced alot of International Leg Spinners, Bryce McGain, Shane Warne, too an extent Cam White and Fawhed Ahemd.

PMs XI Tour Match: England get a win, but some familiar tales remain

Tough go for him then!! Looks like a decent player and has bowled well in the BBL!!
Ahmed and Holland (when fit) are in front of him I guess. Although Holland is constantly getting re-injured and Ahmed has been a bit Katy Perry of late.

(Hot and Cold)

PMs XI Tour Match: England get a win, but some familiar tales remain

Great Article mate first of all!!
On the Dougie point, the bloke should goto South Africa as a back up to Siddle, Johnson and Harris. Pattinson and Bird should be there aswell, but for the time being dont touch Starc or Cummins.
On the point of Cummins would the fact that when the bloke was playing Grade Cricket he was restricted to only bowlinga maximum of 8 over spells and 16 overs in a day, because he was under 19. These bowling rules where brought in to STOP YOUNG BOWLERS FROM BREAKING DOWN!! Know when Cummins when to play for NSW and Australia, he was allowed unlimited over spells and no maximums!!!
In South Africa, Cummins Bowled over 40 overs that Test!! For NSW he regularly bowled over 40 overs in a first class game. The rule was brought in for young cricketers to protect them!! A young body cant withstand such extremes as bowling at 150kms, for 20+ overs and innings at the age of 19!!!
So to combat this should the rule be brought into first class and international cricket????

Should Bollinger get another crack at Test cricket?

Not to sure which state Murihead is in Brett, and i’ll take a crack and say either SA or VIC, both those States have leg spinners who would probably be running in front of him in Zampa and Ahmed. Very hard for these youngsters who show promise in shorter format games but dont get runs for their state sides!!!

PMs XI Tour Match: England get a win, but some familiar tales remain

Would be a perfect line up to have both Hodge and Hogg involved, might even sneak another vetran in Brett Lee in the team aswell.
Hodge, Hogg and Lee all have experience in big matches which is an asset in International T20 games. I reckon Ben Rohrer would have been on the plane to Bangladesh if he didnt have a slump this year! Still think Rohrer should go however, work as an understudy to Hodge for that 5 position!

Select Hodge and Hogg for T20 World Cup

Yes that was the opinion of the fans around the ground!! Also do you remeber Brett when about two years ago, Cam Borgas signing to the Thunder was a massive coup, and he was a T20 gun for hire…… now he cant even make Thunders best XI

BBL Game 23: Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Thunder

I agree that Shield Runs dont carry over and produce T20 runs, and Carters and Rogers last year showed that.

BBL Game 23: Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Thunder

Wish State teams would give young spin bowlers more of an opportunity to develop in the 50 over format, we would have really more options than Gaz, Doherty, SOK and Holland. Case in point is Luke Doran from NSW and Sydney Thunder. Very good record in only a handful of List A games. If given more of an opportunity, maybe a chance for a bright future.

Nathan Lyon should be in Australian ODI side

Great Read mate!!

And before I speak let me first say that I do follow the Thunder and have been to all home games over the 3 seasons.
But the Thunder have little to no chance tonight. I thought we might have been a sniff this year for a couple of W’s, but we have crashed and burned. Role Players like Jason Floros, Cam Borgas, Chris Tremain and the highly pumped up Ryan Carters, have all really flopped this year!!!
Talking to alot of people around ANZ and many belive that some of the players in the team and all mentioned before could be replaced with Sydney Grade Players!! haha not entirtely true but it brings weight to the conversation that even the fans think they stink.

BBL Game 23: Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Thunder

Chris Gayle had a terrible season in BBL02, provided little impact and didnt score many runs.
Big names wont neccessarily win you matches!!

Why Sydney Thunder will improve this Big Bash season

In reality they are meant to represent the Greater Western Syndey. And could make some key improvements to next years roster by maybe buying players who are actually from the “West” of Sydney. Ben Rohrer, who yes is currently not having a great season, is a western sydney boy and is a very very good T2o cricketer, and is very underrated!! Sean Abbott, Jordan Silk and Doug Bollinger all hail from the greater west and its a shame they are representing other clubs. Yes I know its better too have decent cricketers than local juniors but It does stir crowds knowing they played 4 grades lower than the bloke running around.

Why Sydney Thunder will improve this Big Bash season

Alot of good young cricketers coming through the ranks. You only have to look at the U19 Championships and U19 World cups to know that Australia has strong young talent coming trhough.

Head leads Australian cricket's next gen

Good Article mate.

I love Lehmann as a coach, he has an aura around him that gels a team together.
But we cant really judge him just yet, give him another 2 – 3 years down the track. Boof luckily didnt have to go through a massive rebuilding phase like Mickey Arthur enjured. Yet he will have to in the next couple of years as we have a mid sized amount of ageing players.
Thats were it will really test how good a coach he is, wether he can gel the young and the old, the new and the veterans, and how he goes about team selections.
But so far he looks the goods

Could 'Boof' become Australian cricket's best-ever?
