Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

I’ve always argued that the loss to Italy was not Rennie’s fault. It was Rugby Australia’s fault (and as I’m always happy to dump on McLennan, then by extension it was his fault.) Five matches in five weeks was a ludicrous schedule which forced him into play a B team against Italy.
BTW, how telling is this comment about McLennan’s value to Australian rugby:
Indeed, had former RA chairman Hamish McLennan still been in the job, Schmidt wouldn’t have given serious thought to it.

Exclusive: Wallabies to turn to Kiwi Schmidt as Eddie Jones' replacement

Yes, Roy Masters wrote an interesting piece, last weekend I think, in the SMH about soccer’s inexorable rise and its willingness to play the long game in its quest for world domination.

A disastrous decline: 10 Years since the Waratahs won the Super Rugby title and reasons behind growing list of problems

Agree Dionysus, and long after rugby is a distant memory in this country AFL and soccer will still be the NRL’s enemy. Co-operation now could prevent both codes sliding into obscurity.
(I actually keep this opinion a pretty closely guarded secret as airing it publicly usually leads to outrage, but I am becoming more and more convinced that the only hope for rugby in this country is amalgamating with NRL.)

A disastrous decline: 10 Years since the Waratahs won the Super Rugby title and reasons behind growing list of problems

I think it would have helped him (Carter) enormously to have had QC or Axel at the RWC just to help mentor him.

For fans of The Office, if you’ve seen Michael’s reaction when Toby returns then my reaction to Master Coach’s return would be the same.

The time for worrying about how we win is long passed I think Rocky.

'He's up for it': Why ex-Boks World Cup-winner Jake White should be on the Wallabies coaching hit list

He can always live in Randwick. Have seen precious little critical analysis of his performance and trust worthiness coming from his old club mates.

Fiasco complete: Eddie Jones officially CONFIRMED as Japan coach

Fair enough Bluffboy, bringing the Wallabies back from the brink is a big job and it’s unfair to blame him for not being able to do that, but, I didn’t expect him to be the one that pushed them over the brink!

Fiasco complete: Eddie Jones officially CONFIRMED as Japan coach

Strongly recommend Phil should acquaint himself with his roles and responsibilities as CEO of RA. Pretty confident taking the head coach ‘on his word’ is not one of them when there’s reasonable grounds to suspect he is lying and what he should be doing is protecting RA’s interests. Also pretty confident, treating long suffering Wallaby supporters like idiots by trotting out this rubbish is also not on the list.

'Good relationship': RA boss plays down Jones' betrayal, welcomes Tests against Brave Blossoms

Exactly what I was thinking Tez, re Harrison. My recollection is that he’s a pretty decent defender. Is that correct?

'A really even battle': Tahs' No.10 jersey wide open after Donno's departure, Jorgo on track for Super start

Agree Rtl. I think the honeymoon is over for Coleman and it’s time to deliver results. By my quick calculation the ‘best 15’ would contain 11 Wallabies. Sure the depth is not great below that, so so much will depend on those players staying fit but barring an horrendous run of injuries I don’t think another poor year should be acceptable next year.

'A really even battle': Tahs' No.10 jersey wide open after Donno's departure, Jorgo on track for Super start

Yeah, fair point. A win – win situation where you make an offer that you know the other person will reject but it makes you look like the bigger person.

ANALYSIS: McLennan's fatal blind spot, and why his exit leaves Australian rugby in a better place and a worse one

Could not agree more Geoff. I thought your point about Covid exposing that true power laid with the states was a very good one and insightful that it is analagous to the structure and powerbases of Australian Rugby.

ANALYSIS: McLennan's fatal blind spot, and why his exit leaves Australian rugby in a better place and a worse one

Thanks Geoff, great analysis as always and thanks for continuing to be “damming” of McLennan, which has been thoroughly deserved throughout this disaster.
The bit that leaves me gobsmacked is that after sacking him as chairman, they then offered for him to continue as a director. So, they’re saying we don’t want you as chairman because of the disaster you have brought to bear upon Australian Rugby but, no hard feelings, we still want you involved in shaping the direction of the game. Unbelievable!

ANALYSIS: McLennan's fatal blind spot, and why his exit leaves Australian rugby in a better place and a worse one

Don’t really think this is that controversial. Of course he’s a better coach now. He knows exactly what not to do now. ????

'I am a better coach': Eddie's head-turning take, says several teams keen on him despite Wallabies flop

He does indeed Geoff.
Had the thrill of a lifetime of seeing him do exactly that a couple of weeks ago.

The 2023 Wrap: Man who was 'dropped from heaven' and the abject s--t show that followed in his wake

Thanks Geoff for yet another enjoyable and informative read in a year of enjoyable and informative reads. Love you’re analogies. You were on fire with the strip mall one.
The piece of music I would like to recommend to World Rugby is ‘The End’ by the Beatles. In particular I think they should pay attention to the icon closing lines:
“And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make”

The 2023 Wrap: Man who was 'dropped from heaven' and the abject s--t show that followed in his wake

So short of being an absolute disaster in the job, making repeated disastrous decisions, treating supporters with disdain and dragging Australian Rugby down into the second tier, it’s virtually impossible to lose the Chairman’s job.
Hang on……….

'Always knew it would get really ugly': RA chief's strange admission as World Cup budget blow out revealed

Thanks Jez. I was wondering what the process for removing him was. So no matter how much the rank and file want him gone, it doesn’t matter as long as he retains the support of one quarter of the states?

'Always knew it would get really ugly': RA chief's strange admission as World Cup budget blow out revealed

Yes, his self aggrandizement about sticking around so he can fix the problems is yet another distraction. The issue is not whether he’s a quitter or not. The issue is whether his constituents want him to stick around.

'Always knew it would get really ugly': RA chief's strange admission as World Cup budget blow out revealed

I know it seems like an eternity ago now, but Rennie’s team in 2022 was, IMHO, on the verge of being competitive. That year we missed a series win against England by a try (not to mention gaining our first win against them since before Cheika), we beat South Africa, lost by, as someone said the other day, a skinny Frenchman to New Zealand and had 1 and 3 point losses to France and Ireland respectively.
I doubt DR would come back but surely someone of that ilk that will make sensible selections and develop sensible game plans could see us getting back to that level again next year. Whether we can progress to the point of winning those close ones is another matter, but the first step is surely just getting an adult back in charge.

Predicted Wallabies team in 2024: Eddie's outcasts back as halves, back-row battles heat up

Which I think is an issue for any coach they try to attract. If I was an international coach I wouldn’t be accepting the job until McLennan and his cronies on the board are removed. Without that, the one thing the incoming coach can be assured of is continued instability.

Predicted Wallabies team in 2024: Eddie's outcasts back as halves, back-row battles heat up

‘fraid I have the optimism of a man who has realised that the reality challenged are now the administrators of the Mental Health Facility Geoff.

The Wrap: What will the Wallabies' external season review reveal that we don’t already know?

Great article Geoff. Really good analysis of what needs to be done compared with what will probably actually happen.
As Australian rugby lurches from one disaster to another and we sink further down the rankings and further into irrelevancy I become more and more convinced that the problems are not solvable internally, i.e. the embedded structures, hierarchies and self interests will always thwart any attempt to solve the problems. Once an organization reaches this point, I think the only way it can be saved is by revolution.

The Wrap: What will the Wallabies' external season review reveal that we don’t already know?

I thought we did that before the RWC started and replaced it with the 2027 cue?
