Could not agree more. The amount of dead air is crazy. I love that Justin Harrison is actually trying to explain what is going on in scrums, we need more of it.

Let's celebrate rugby for its differences: Why imitating league is not the answer

Neither of them can pass…

'Like a Scud missile': World Cup reject leads rout, but Reds suffer fresh blow with Petaia's season in jeopardy

Impressive win in my books. Yes they were clunky, but with the players they had missing that is to be expected. But they didn’t let it get to them, they just stood up and said we are gonna bash the Highlanders anyway, and take the opportunities when they come.

The Wrap: Crusaders' shot clock fiasco and shhh, don’t put the moz on Darby

Is it guaranteed that a new board would run it any better? Although I agree that there have been many mistakes made over the years, especially the last couple, this ‘plan’ seems to lack a lot of detail and therefore has significant risks involved. Let alone that the SoARR only names three people in support, who are the rest?
What would a spill of the board cost? Would further instability in the game simply drive more people out, including sponsors and broadcasters? Would getting rid of board members who have already have an understanding of the financial issues mean a huge loss in IP, and therefore a new board would take time to understand the issues (time we don’t have)?
We have to be weary that the situation could actually get worse.

COMMENT: Australian rugby is a depressing picture - the RA board must be axed and the constitution changed

Very good point. The brumbies in general have a very good sense of how to adjust to the conditions and the nature of the game. The way they closed out against the reds, how they opened up against a tired moana and the way the controlled the game in the wet against the tahs are all good examples.

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

Well deserved pick of Ollie Sapsford in your team. He is consistently performing and had great moments against the tahs. I think its gonna be hard for Muirhead to get the 14 jersey back.

I like the way Hooper is developing into a work rate backrower. He seems to have a bit of mongrel about him. I could see us adjusting the backrow depending on the opposition, whether we want more speed and presence on the ball, or a bigger backrow to smash lots of rucks.

It could be cool if they played some games at Tarneit and some games in the east at Harlequins’ ground. Get that local footy vibe back

I understand that is the way with professional coaching but I just don’t agree with it. Unless they get someone lime Cheika, I doubt the next one will be any better, and in the short term they will get worse, which is always what happens with a new coach. Surely the Eddie Jones farce has taught us something…

Five things we learnt: Why Cheika could be the man to resurrect Tahs, Thor is the new Quade, value of sevens

Another case of lets sack the coach rather than look at the system as a whole. They knew Coleman was an inexperienced coach so would need a lot of support around him, obviously that hasn’t happened.
I think the criticism of Tupou in the first few rounds seemed a bit premature. A guy with a physique like his can’t be playing 100% all season, we want him peaking the last few rounds of super and then again during the Rugby Championship, not rd 3 against Moana. He got burnt out at the Reds because he was expected to carry the forward pack every week.

Schmidt said he is looking for consistency above anything else

'It was brutal': Clutch Lolesio kicks Brumbies to 'Test match intensity' win over Reds as Wright shines again

That only tells us that the passes were caught, not if it slowed down the attack which is the main problem. All the best scrumhalfs in the world have their pass on a rope and players running on to it.

That is true, my bad. He’s missed a couple match winners though

I think Noah is not getting the credit he deserves for running and organising the Brumbies attack, as well as kicking them into the right parts of the field. So many tries come off decisions he makes. Also why would he run a lot when he has great running options all around him? It would just mean he is on the ground and can’t make decisions. He’s also the only kicker in Aus kicking at over 80%. Would bet a lot of money (if i gambled) that Schmidt will pick him.

Or… he could go to the Brumbies, a club right here in Australia with a strong record of developing talent

'Such an emotional guy': Why RA should let their biggest star leave for the sake of the Wallabies

Although I do agree with some of your points, namely the size of the players, I think the worst thing about the game at the moment is the negative commentary that surrounds it. It permeates every conversation about rugby these days.
Yes, there are things that could improve in the game, but I think World Rugby are addressing them in a considered way.
If you go back a few years, the scrum was an absolute mess, resets on resets. But they brought in policies to fix it, and it might not be perfect, but it is a lot better. I for one love a scrum, the display of power, teamwork and tactical nous is unmatched by anything else in world sport.
And if you look around, the rugby is excellent. Last year’s world cup was filled to the brim with outstanding rugby. The precision, brutality and strategic prowess was immense, especially in the finals. I think you would be hard pressed to find better games of rugby. It would be interesting to go back and watch some full games from old world cups, rather than just highlights, to really see the difference.
World rugby seems to be taking a very measured approach to rule changes, which helps avoid unintended consequences and allows you to measure the effects, so I’m happy to let them do that. In the meantime, I’m just going to enjoy the rugby!

WR's mooted law changes are great - but show there's a hell of a lot wrong with rugby in 2024, and that sucks

Tahs are almost there, shame Coleman will probably get sacked, they’ll have a worse season next year and three years from now they’ll be putting the next coach under pressure to perform. The cycle continues…

'He's holding a grudge': Fiji coach trolls Coleman after dramatic win over Tahs

I agree, I think the risks of trying to start a new competition are pretty immense. It would cost a great deal of money to get it off the ground, with no guarantee of success.
Despite being poorly managed, especially on the Australian side, Super Rugby has been somewhat sustainable.
We have tried a domestic competition twice, both failed because they were not financially viable.

Exclusive: Rebels threaten Civil War as peace talks with RA end in another blow for Super Rugby

I don’t think the importance of 10s kicking their goals can be understated, especially at test level. The Wallabies have lost a lot of games because we haven’t kicked our goals.
I also think Noah does a lot of great out of the hand kicking to move the Brumbies up the field.
I personally would be picking and sticking with him till the Lions tour.

'Statement game': Brumbies smash Moana Pasifika as Lolesio, Wright and Toole light up Canberra

What else were they going to do if they are owed money? Just roll over?
Or maybe they will use the case as leverage to fend off the ex Waratahs in RA who are determined for the Rebels to fail.

Rebels set to sue Rugby Australia as civil war erupts, Rugby Victoria President barred from summit

Have a look at work by Ben Darwin on cohesion, having 8-10 team Aus competition would ruin the cohesion of the Wallabies and they would get even worse. It’s why England have never really been that good despite having a massive, talented player base and heaps of money. They have a 10-12 team domestic competition so the England side is rarely cohesive. The only thing we have going for us over league and AFL is that the Wallabies have genuine pull with the public. That is our point of difference. If we destroy the Wallabies it won’t matter what the domestic competition looks like anyway.

'Let's see what the worst thing about rugby league is and do that': Loathsome blight union never needed

I honestly think Phil Kearns hates rugby. All he did when he was commentating was complain, and it seemed to infect the whole rugby community.
On the other hand, it’s great to read an article that is actually talking up super round. I’ve been the last three years and have always had a good time. Maybe a few more people would go if almost every article wasn’t saying how stupid it is.
As a rugby community we have to back our sport and know that the product is great.
