Are you suggesting that the sports scientist has a penchant for french red wine?

Ten AFL games you can’t miss in the march to September

I can only imagine that Hogg – as is his character – would have been patient and loyal beyond what you’d expect from a professional athlete. Yet it appears the WACA dawdled, and sat on their hands when he gave a deadline. I think the WACA probably wanted to have their cake and eat it too – ie retain Hogg on a flexible arrangement while they wait for the two Ashtons to actually become reliable spinners.

Good on him for chasing opportunities. Langer will probably regret his comments. And the WACA may regret not being more loyal to a guy who has possibly been the most effective player in the history of the franchise… and one of the fans’ favourites.

Hey Langer, leave Hoggy alone: Loyalty doesn't pay the bills

What is the deal with the locked-up player ratings? I assume some sort of contract with champion data?

Great insight on the last quarter inside 50 differential. How can a team capable of playing like that when it matters, also be capable of consistently dropping games against non-finals teams?

Geelong vs Sydney: Friday Night Forecast

Pumping Dougie: IMO McCarthy and Thurlow definitely in first 22 if fit. Cockatoo not far behind and he’s a Chris Scott favourite anyway so gets picked constantly.

Don’t be jealous of the AFL’s new Big Three

The comparison to EPL is irrelevant as you point out. Can we at least call it an ‘NBA-isation’. ie despite equalisation measures (albeit with differences) and best intentions, there will always be ‘destination’ clubs owing to factors like historical success, market and facilities. Further deregulation of player movement will only entrench that.

Don’t be jealous of the AFL’s new Big Three

Great read. Strange series capped by an amazing game seven. Through the whole thing I didn’t think Cleveland could actually win it until Kyrie hit that late three.

History eraser: Cleveland seize Golden State's crown

Not much being made of Geelong’s small forward outs – Cockatoo and McCarthy – which I think could be influential. Gregson is an able inclusion but Geelong’s forward line looks a lot less potent without those two.

Adelaide vs Geelong: Friday night forecast

Interesting take on all that. North has played Brisbane, Gold Coast and St Kilda and has failed to put ANY of those teams away. IMO their low percentage is more revealing than any skew you think might have impacted Geelong’s.

Geelong's smash-mouth stylings paying dividends, for now

Great analysis that perfectly sums up how I feel about the Cats right now… cautiously optimistic with the knowledge that they still have the very good teams to come.

Steven Motlop probably had his break out year last year to be fair… regularly put up comparable numbers to his recent output and finished second in the B&F. He seems to have been given even less accountability this year… not a knock on him, I think it’s just a reflection of the settled nature of the midfield roles.

Geelong's smash-mouth stylings paying dividends, for now

Pretty scarce with facts aren’t ya… Geelong has to bargain for games at KP and like other Melbourne clubs is obligated to play at Etihad – eg after hosting a final at KP the Cats actually lost a home game the next year. And of course Geelong wants to play a ‘marquee’ game at the MCG – every club wants that opportunity. And you know, the amount of $ Geelong has put into KP might have crippled other clubs, not to mention they pay a significant amount of money to actually rent the ground every season.

The entire AFL are flat-track bullies, not just the Eagles

Well that was pretty insane

Portland Trail Blazers vs Golden State Warriors: NBA Western Conference semi-finals live scores Game 4

Are you basing those stats on away games, or away (interstate) games?

The entire AFL are flat-track bullies, not just the Eagles

Nope.

But… if you accept that playing interstate against a good team is just plan hard in the AFL… and you can show that the AFL has swung the fixture hard against the Eagles in terms of scheduling away games vs top 8 teams from one year to the next… then you might say they are willingly or unwillingly manipulating the fixture unfairly. Perhaps they don;t even realise just how much harder they make it for the Eagles.

But most arguments don’t go to a necessary depth of evidence so it’s kind of hard to know. It’s no good just saying ‘it’s rigged’.

The entire AFL are flat-track bullies, not just the Eagles

“So why are we targeting the Eagles?”

Something to do with them going from grand finalist one year, to being smashed every second week by other contenders. Would be news in any sport wouldn’t it?

Saying Victorian teams haven’t won interstate is moot anyway because, unlike West Coast, they don’t NEED to win interstate consistently to win the premiership.

The entire AFL are flat-track bullies, not just the Eagles

Do you make a habit of missing the point, or did I just catch you on a bad day?

Optus' EPL plans sound like a good deal for Foxtel

In other words, some people who sign up to optus will also be forced to pay extra for a satellite dish to watch the EPL… they just don’t know it yet.

Optus' EPL plans sound like a good deal for Foxtel

Johnson was another missed opportunity for Collingwood – I recall them turning down the chance to sign him years ago.

In any case Collingwood really should look at their own recent – very average – trading and drafting history before whinging about the ability of other clubs to sign good players.

Shaw, Scully and Stevie J - the maligned recruits driving GWS up the ladder

You’ve taken your tactical stupidity to another level there.

Optus' EPL plans sound like a good deal for Foxtel

Fans were rightly complaining when it was announced that the only *legal* way to watch EPL in this country was by also buying an optus phone or internet service, and even then the quality would be questionable.

You were talking up the merits of the Optus deal and the benefits of “competition” on another thread before Fox even made its announcement. Do you understand the meaning of the word?

Optus' EPL plans sound like a good deal for Foxtel

Gawd. Please tell us more about what makes someone a Real Football Fan.

Could Optus be the reason Australians stop loving football?

Gethin you seem to have completely misinterpreted the offer.

For starters, those sums don’t make any sense. You are assuming that Optus is making a 100% profit on each $85 plan?

And you don’t get phone, broadband and TV channels for $85. You get one phone plan, or one internet plan. Set top box is additional again.

It’s a terrible deal that requires consumers to buy unrelated products just for the chance to subscribe. And for those who already know optus coverage is poor in their area, it’s a complete no go.

This is the sort of tripe that sends people down the path of streams and VPNs.

Optus reveal plans for EPL: $15 per month to stream, and only for customers

Great read.

“Or would people prefer a system that window-dresses an appearance of developing players in non-traditional areas but doesn’t actually succeed?”

Eddie, as usual, is happy to put on appearances about supporting the wider game, while only ever thinking about what benefits Collingwood.

Eddie, do you not like the GWS Academy because it's working?

I’d say winning two games in a season qualifies you as easy beats.

No-one turned the ball over the way Freo did in that era. “Easy beats” is apt.

Matthew Pavlich has been a giant of the game

I don’t give a rats about channels. I do give a rats about choice of phone internet provider and getting a decent service.
