What’s wrong with that comment? Why should McDermott make the test team? What has he done this year that means he should be included? How is he better than his direct competition for the wallabies 9? Based on current form does he deserve a spot? Is it coincidence that he came back into the team and it was the reds worse game for a month?

Why don’t you tell us outside of 38% why individual reds players are better than the direct competition for spots.

As a Brumbies supporter I wouldn’t have AAA, Slipper, Frost in my wallabies team. I would only select in the starting 15 Swain, Neville, Valetini, Cale, Lonergan, Lolesio, Ikitau, Wright. Of that group I’d be surprised if Swain, Valetini, Ikitau, Wright and Lolesio were not picked come that first test. I recognise other players from other teams have played well and offer more.

There’s feeding a troll and calling BS. He joined a Canberra based news site the riot act to post the same crap. Posts on the RA Facebook page as well.

From the world rugby website.

”A penalty try is awarded between the goal posts if foul play by the opposing team prevents a probable try from being scored, or scored in a more advantageous position. A player guilty of this must be cautioned and temporarily suspended or sent off. No conversion is attempted.”

The foul play prevented a probable try from being scored.

Non of that matters. He intentionally knocked the ball dead. There was a Brumbies player trying to win the ball. His illegal action stopped the Brumbies player from making a play at the ball.

The mark of good leadership and team culture is how you perform under pressure. The Brumbies scrum was under pressure. They kept at it, and as a team they won.

With McDermott at 9 we might as well not pick anyone who can do anything from 12 to the wings because there will be too much pressure on the 10 at international level to do anything.
All he does is throw slow weak passes and runs himself so defenders know exactly how to plan.

Who are you trying to fool?

The best I have seen frost in terms of physicality with the ball. A few decent hits too. But I would be picking Hooper at 6 without Cale. Or even putting Reimer into 7 and Brown to 6.

Winning when you are not playing well says something about the attitude of a team. Especially the leaders.

White and Lonergan.

From today’s Brumbies game Lonergan was crisp with his passing, didn’t see any defensive issue.

Last week white look clinical. Throwing accurate long passes to the right player all night.

A third don’t know.

I think slipper is injured. He was strong against the hurricanes, went down early against the Drua, had the week off last week, and was poor today. I also got the feeling the crusaders packed exceptionally low and made it highly uncomfortable for the Brumbies.

COMMENT: Bizarre selection call that sums up chaos and disconnect at Super Rugby's biggest basket case

Maybe 4 years ago I would agree. Wallabies need a 12 that uses the ball. I’m happy for you to disagree but Kerevi from what I last saw is nowhere near the player he was and needs to be to play as an international 12.

So which ones would take him now?

To be world class you would expect the top 4 national teams to want him.

Of South Africa, Ireland, France, and New Zealand, which team would select him to start?

Only one way to find out.

Matt Giteau many had concerns over as a test player. managed 100+ caps and is still playing professional football at 42.

He’s not wrong though.

But in saying that, sometimes the captain is more than just his form. How they lead the team, how they inspire them, keep them calm, communicate with officials is just as important and can result in selecting someone that may be considered as a bench player at best.

AAA seems to be really important to the Brumbies, his scrummaging has been poor (in my opinion as a former 10), his work around the field as strong as ever, but the team lifted against the Hurricanes with him in the team. If AAA on the field is worth an extra 10% for the Brumbies does that negate his scrummaging form? A team lift overall of 10% vs a scrum drop of 5%?

Who does Kurtley Beale think should be Wallabies captain? - The Roar Rugby Podcast

I haven’t seen him play this year, but in previous seasons his work at 12 is far too one dimensional. Loves contact with and without the ball, which takes other players out of the game. I’m sure most people would love to see the ball in the hands if Ikitau, 11, 14, 15 more. His want to always make big hits also creates opportunities for the opposition, he misses as much as he hits, and when he misses he leaves huge gaps because he comes from the outside in.

Kells, Wright, Donno, Jock or Kurtley? What Joe Schmidt's past tells us about the Wallaby fullback sweepstakes

For me Kerevi is the root of so many problems the Wallabies backline has faced. Far too one dimensional, I know he has improved aspects of his passing game, but his default is always to take contact, is lazy off the ball, and is a liability in defence. Hamish Stewart looked good for the Force last weekend, offered everything you need in a 12. Runs hard lines, passes, kicks, defends well, plays for his team mates.

Kells, Wright, Donno, Jock or Kurtley? What Joe Schmidt's past tells us about the Wallaby fullback sweepstakes

I recognise that 15 is important. But I don’t think 15 is as important as having balance through 10, 12, 13. The Wallabies in recent history have gone with the big / straight running 12. But they have lacked the other skills needed to balance the backline and bring other players into the game.

When I think of the recent 12’s in the same mould I think Nonu, and to some extent SBW. They could both run the crash ball line, they could both pass, kick as needed, and ran good lines without the ball. Their skill set created space for others. Without a 12 with those skills 11, 13, 14, 15 become spectators.

So if the Wallabies select a one dimensional 12 the 15 needs to be someone that runs support lines, kicks well, and is happy not being in the game. This is where Wright gets into trouble, he watches the score, knows his team is down and wants to do something to get them on the front foot, something to get himself into the game. You then need to balance this. If you are winning with a limited game plan you can select Kellaway, Donaldson. If you are losing and need the spark you need a Wright.

Wright works at the Brumbies because Tua and Ikitau work together, they complement each other, they both also seem to be good team players and work hard off the ball. This allows Wright to drop into 1st receiver and create space for them. Tua is quick, and Ikitau is great at ghosting outside his defender before contact. They can both take the outside line or go through a defender which is far harder to defend when Wright joins in with ball in two hands forcing defenders to make decisions which creates the space for others. And Noah at 10 seems to recognise that Wright is great ball in hand and lets him into the game a first receiver.

I know this sounds like a love letter to Tom Wright and the Brumbies, but its not. Its about how 1 player can create for others when they are all on the same page and are willing to work with each other and for the team.

For me Tom Wright is the form 15. But if the Wallabies are not going to use the backs, he’s not the guy to select, and I think that is an issue, because he is far too good not to be playing for the Wallabies and getting his hands on the ball.

No single Brumbies player showed high skills in the conditions? Or was worth an individual mention?
