i always thought matthews should have given up spin bowling and concentrated oh his batting, he had the potential to hold down the number 6 spot.

The batting breakthroughs that weren't

wow…have you opened up a can of worms here…29 players in 6 tests… my favourite memory is paul jarvis padding up to an alderman yorker… great article…great memories

Ashes history: The summer of 29

foynd this on cricinfo… not quite three at the same time but almost…

With the last of the 11 one-day international matches of the summer done and dusted, two separate Australia teams will assemble in three different countries in the coming weeks to gear up for extremely contrasting challenges.

As Australia surrendered the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy to New Zealand with a 24-run loss in Hamilton on Sunday, David Warner and Matthew Wade flew out to Dubai to join nine of their fellow Test squad members for a training camp ahead of the four-match Qantas Tour of India.

The remaining five players chosen to embark on Test cricket’s toughest task were in the New Zealand ODI squad – Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc – and that group will today fly from New Zealand to the United Arab Emirates to complete the India squad.

What if Australia had to field a team in all three formats at the same time?

on 22/2 australia played a odi in australia vs sri lanka…. the next day aust started a test match vs india in india… i also vaguely recall we had a team in new zealand at the same time but a day of research has not turned up that series…. can anyone else remember this please?

What if Australia had to field a team in all three formats at the same time?

it already happened, didnt we send a A team to india, bteam was here playing rubbish one day game and a C team was in new zealand

What if Australia had to field a team in all three formats at the same time?

you made me laugh out loud…. yes i know as i was writing it that he is not alone in being anxious against genuine quicks, he was an enigma for sure

Best cricketers for Australia and England who played only one Test

i thought waugh was weak against genuine fast bowling … i also know he scored a absolute match winning 116 against Donald in 97 at port elizabeth, a very underrated test victory in my opinion

Best cricketers for Australia and England who played only one Test

didnt go to well against real pace either

Best cricketers for Australia and England who played only one Test

thank you… that makes perfect sense

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

$300 for under 8s in melb… controlled by football victoris

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

they dont have a large group of males standing and drinking and chanting swear words…why would anyone take their family

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

not me buddy..but my wife and 6 and 8 year olds….seriously…your attitude is why no one attends…

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

again..exactly my point…the attitude of yours is why no one attends…soccer in this country will remain dead with your attitude

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

yor reply is exactly why no one attends and the sport is dying…. the language from those groups is deplorable…

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

groups of drunk men standing chanting and swearing behind the goals is not an incentive… this is australia…not europe..i will never take my family again until this stops.

i agree with your comment about being open with where club fees go… soccer is very expensive and most people think their money goes up to pay the elites… our club does not have clubrooms

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

where was the mention of langers disgraceful behaviour as a player? he was a self- righteous hypocrit who sledged endlessly but cried in public when other teams did it…he was a major part of building a culture that culminated in sand paper gate…

Ten take-outs from The Test

Great article… they also failed to go into depth about what a complete tool Langer was as a player…a self-righteous hypocritical prick who was instrumental in the Sutherlsnd era of taking Australian cricket to the sewer of behaviour.

Ten take-outs from The Test

as always a great article, very entertaining for those of us in the 45 plus age range. I cant help but think you overlooked two great west indian spinners…larry gomes and derek parry 🙂

The spin bowlers of the 1980s: Part 2

that was an amazing series…often not mentioned in ashes history but an attack of hughes, reiffel, warne and may for almost the whole series after mcdermott went home in the first test. will not be remembered as a great attack but the were sensational in that series…then may came home and had a good series against the west indies

The spin bowlers of the 1980s: Part 1

if lara wasnt run out at sydney he would still be batting now…never looked like being dismissed.

The ten greatest Test innings ever played

three of my favourite cricket memories…. lamann and dravrid batting the whole if the fourth day to turn a follow on into an incredible victory…. the most amazing part of that day is there was hardly one genuine appeal or chance given.

lara at kensington was great because yhe aussies were at their ugliest best that series…mcgrath, healy and waugh constant sledging and waugh claiming catches that bounced… the highlight was healy dropping lara with 7 runs needed and losing the test.

And AB at port of spain…. he had so many highlights in his career but this must be in his top 3.

The ten greatest Test innings ever played

and tim may…had a couple of great seasons

The spin bowlers of the 1980s: Part 1

i went to the opening game…i think it was aust v england… i remember robbie kerr being dismissed early… i think we were celebrating lights at the mcg …

The spin bowlers of the 1980s: Part 1

this sport more than any other in australia has been badly mismanaged and it is coming home to roost. the gallop / lowry years were a disaster …like all fools they took the pay tv option and the game died.
They never had the guts to crack down on poor crowd behaviour and this today is seen in the absolute embarrassing crowds that attend. how they let groups of young and middle aged males stand behind the goals and drink and swear and abuse the opposition is beyond me.
soccer in this country has ended up with what it deserves.

Goodbye A-League. It was fun while it lasted

im pretty sure they flattened already flat decks so lille wouldnt get a wicket and quasim would get plenty
