Yawn – we went through this all yesterday …. in summary the Aussies love Dickinson and think he’s a top international referee who has been slandered by a kiwi who is motivated solely by the need to look after his own … the rest of the world don’t rate him …

Well Brett – you’d elimate England from being a W/Cup host … whether that’s good or bad is another story … they’re planning on using football grounds to increase numbers … which they have previously – and these ground are too small already

Dasilva – i’m all for giving NZ a more meaningful qualification process – but I just don’t think the whole W/cup system needs to be revamped in order for it to happen or to satisfy those (and I’m not implying that this is you) who think the W/cup should try and get the best 32 teams in the world there ….
Oceania needs to lobby to be omitted into the 2nd round of Asian qualifiers thereby Asia has a firm 5 spots from the outset – and Oceania teams have a meaningful home and away qualification pathway …. NZ need to capitalise on the Wgtn crowd and try and ensure that they replicate that in the future

Look it’s plain to most that Dickinson isn’t a great referee … he’s been substandard in the international arena for years and was particularly poor in the S14 this season esp in the 1st 3 – 4 games …. as Sam above has said comparing Dickinson’s appalling performance in the last 10 minutes with one off instances just doesn’t cut it …
I’ve no problem whatsoever with O’Brien coming out and setting the record straight in respect to what happened in Milan – it needed to be clarified, the evidence was there from the tape that the Italians were operating illegally – not to comment was tantamount to condoning it at least this way we’re armed with the knowledge that referees have been put on notice and the scrum will be a focal point

The problem with the argument DS is it’s not all about Australia …. just because you or anyone else wants Aussie to be pitted against the world – doesn’t mean the whole footballing world should be reconfigured … and before that happens surely Australia should prove themselves in Asia first – like performing in the Asian Cup …
the world cup is a chance for all nations to get a sniff of what it’s like … never in my wildest dreams did I ever think NZ would qualify again – but they have and for them and the supporters they off again on a great journey – similar to possibly yourself in germany last time out … why deny them or Houndras, or T & T, Cameroon etc their chance to join the party – that’s what the W/cup is all about – it’s never been about the top 32 ….

Having watched the link above – and seeing it for the first time – I think Kaplin got it right ….and no way did Kearney shoulder charge Palu (how anyone can come up with that is beyond me) … there were no arms in the Palu “tackle” – nothing new there he’s got form with that …. so the decision is is correct …

what rubbish – try telling all the participants in NZ that it’s minor – try telling that to the 35k+ crowd that was there … yeah they’re minnows on a global basis – but that shouldn’t preclude them from being able to qualify – NZ football fans will have a ball in SA as have other small county’s fans in the past

Of course it’s flawed … that’s why it’s called a World Cup – it’s open to every country – it has nothing to do with the size of the place – each has their own qualification pathway
so because little old NZ has qualified it cheapens Australia being there – what a total load of crap …

Ideally what Oceania need to do is to try and take their half spot and get into the second round of Asian qualifiers … something that Asia may be open to given as Jimbo says above they’re seen as the weakest federation and it gives Asia 5 full spots …
this would be the win / win for NZ – assuming they continue to dominate Oceania – then they’d have a meaningful qualification process and the opportunity to host home qualifying games to try and replicate the excellent turn out in Wgtn … but at the same time leave them in Ocenia where they would able to take advantage of their youth and womens teams qualifying for the various age group W/cups as well as the Olympics and Con Feds Cup ….

How many times are you going to post the same thing Alex – trying to pour cold water on a fantastic achievement just makes you look petty … it’s not NZ’s fault who they ended up playing … they progressed via the route they were given – just like every team thay makes it to SA …
A great night night for NZ football and a fantastic atmosphere – that’s what should be taken from this … I’m happy that both Australia and NZ have made it – for far too long the we’ve been shut out by poor qualification routes – now that we’re getting there more regularly football in this region is growing – that can only be a good thing

If the Italians are good enough then they’ll get a result – if they’re not then what’s the point of picking the top team esp when they’ve got back-to-back-to-back games … it’s unfortunate but it’s now part of the touring schedule at some stage they second string side was going to get a run out – and everybody knew that this game along with the babas game was going to be it – NZ have done nothing different to what’s been done in the past by Australia and SA ….
the NZ selectors have enough pressure to perform every time they walk out on the paddock – they don’t now have to also be burdened with being the standard bearers for “what is best for the game of rugby as a whole” … while others can merrily go forth and foist farce games such as that rubbish babas game the ARU scheduled in their brand new market earlier this year …
The Italian RU have taken full advantage of having the AB’s in town – they’ll walk away with 100% of the gate and the result may be closer – so the supporters should be more engaged also

Agree with everyone on here so far – this is tosh … add to those already mentioned Innes, gibbs … blimey go back even to Bill Osborne … there’s nothing special in what Mortlock does to a multitude of others …. he certainly hasn’t “changed the way rugby is played throughout the world”

NZ have made good of a situation – which despite what some on here think – wasn’t all that easy.
Idealy for the next W/cup the situation described above is the best solution – it allows a meangingful pathway providing home and away fixtures while at the same time allowing the oceanic teams entry into youth and confed cup – which will benefit long term development
