“The crowd is so much greater than any that has previously attended a soccer match in New Zealand that it seems unlikely to be reflective of the sport’s core support.”

I’d disagree with call – there’s always been a strong base of support for football in NZ and kiwis have shown they’ll get out and support the game if they consider it’s worth watching …. moving the A League team to Wgtn was the best move and the Phoenix certainly have shown a sizable and loyal supporter base … and when FIFA gave the U17’s world cup to NZ the games were generally well supported throughout the country with the final being getting around 21,000 and restricted due to Nth Harbour stadium being only half built at the time …

35,000 sell out is fantastic and well done to New Zealand Football for taking to Wgtn – I’m flying out to night for what should be a ripper of a weekend in the Capital …

Football at the forefront for Kiwis, for a change

There’s a little bit of a difference making 3 teams out of the NSW / Qld talent pool to trying to cobbled together 5 out of the same place … but it will only become glaringly apparent when the cross conference games kick in …

.. and another team playing in blue – surely not

They're in! Melbourne awarded Super 15 licence

All you’re doing is selling the Wallaby jersey to the highest bidder – there’s enough talk already that the current mob don’t show any pride in it … so why go down the track of degenerating it further … look no further than the failed kiwi leaguies that were rapidly promoted to the England team – waste of space and were a blot on the jersey … Hunt is not the answer …

Australia shouldn’t be selling the shop in order to try and be competitive in 2011 – if the core of the W/Cup squad aren’t already being groomed by the super coach – then there’s no quick fix

How John O'Neill could rescue Australian rugby

Come on VC … Woodward and Campbell did more damage to the Lions “brand” than anything the host countries have supposedly got up to … the concept was nearly terminal leading into the most recent series …

O'Driscoll buries hatchet with Umaga

Give it a rest FFS …. no need whatsoever to to rehash this – if it’s a small part of a larger interview – then ok – but to isolate it and magnify again is against his very quote “To have done so would have been to re-hash the whole thing,” he said. “We didn’t talk about it. It was very much swept under the carpet.”

O'Driscoll buries hatchet with Umaga

Yes the current set is 5,5,4 … but the new idea is for conferences 5,5,5 … so 6,6,5 is imbalanced if your idea is for a conference set up … if not then that’s a massive jump in round robin games which would cut across every existing competition – so you’ll be expecting SA and NZ to relinquish Currie Cup and NPC completely – good luck with that one …

“Market forces and spreading the game are more important than anything else now.” … to who – Australia certainly – but this proposal isn’t spreading the game any further than it is now and the supposed windfall is really a pipe dream – how much will a broadcaster really pay to see poor Australain sides play each other (your foreign imports will really only be second tier or old returnees) …

Mcmeniman – had as close to a full season with the Reds as he’s ever likely to get last season and didn’t set the world on fire … he’s not top drawer and in the end his body wouldn’t handle it …

Hunt made himself available for Australia for 1 reason and 1 reason only – he wanted to play State of Origin for Queensland – he can’t do that if he was a kiwi rep footballer …

Mcalister and Elsom – have hardly set the game alight since returning – it’s becoming evident that those players returning from up north really need full season or 2 before regaining any worthwhile form … and Vickermans hardly been playing top flight rugby in the Nth since he’s been away …

How John O'Neill could rescue Australian rugby

So tweak SANZAR once again to benefit Oz rugby … and your suggested “conferences” 6,6,5 are not balanced (the kiwis are already on record numerous times that they are not in the market for a another team) …. it’s evident that interest in Super rugby is on the wane in NZ and SA – yet here’s an idea to increase it further – merely to provide a quick fix to benefit Australian rugby – it’s hairbrained and thankfully won’t happen … in fact expansion to 15 shouldn’t happen …

… i’ve said it before McMeniman is a crock – he won’t last 2 seasons of S14/15 … and at that he’s no second rower – and an above average loosie … Vickerman – the boat’s sailed – the ARU should be looking at possibly replicating that formula and poaching a promising SA lock or 2 – which I believe NSW has done

Hunt – is a kiwi – not a ozzie and if he did come over it would be for one thing and one thing only $$ … look no further than the failed English attempts at trying to convert kiwi RL players to see where that will end up …

How John O'Neill could rescue Australian rugby

Well I’m heading over tomorrow to cheer the boys on …. will be fantastic if we can make it for only the second time …

Australia should back All Whites for World Cup

Well take it a step further – the citing officer in this case is an Aussie – not hard to imagine that if he hadn’t cited Carter then a fair chunk of the UK press would have happily brought up the SANZAR connection and also thrown in a (very) tired reference to the O’Driscoll injury in the 1st Lions test in ’05 … pressure applied from all angles resulting in a poor decision and if there’s any fairness applied then it won’t last 5 minutes before being thrown out …

However as we know there’s no such thing a fairness when dealing in this arena – so I expect Carter will get a week (which will set a rather dangerous precedent) and effectively miss a game he most likely wasn’t going to be playing in anyway … tokenism all round.

Mind you if he gets 2 weeks then the balloon will really go up.

Has Dan Carter been the victim of video foul play?

not anymore it’s not – they’ve reverted back to white and black

Sheedy signing exactly what West Sydney needs

Can’t wait until the new screen at the Dallas Cowboys becomes the norm then (approx 50m x 22m) … should bring a whole new rage out in the throng baying for blood ….

… on a side note – I’m surprised no-ones really made mention of how poor the pitch was for the game …. this is apparently one of the best rugby grounds in the world – yet time and time again the pitch is appalling – outside of the odd FA cup final or play off final (which are in May) I can’t think of when that ground has been in a decent condition

Has Dan Carter been the victim of video foul play?

Ian – that’s all fine in theory – but first off – in order to be cited the offence needs to be judged as a red card offence – the tackle clearly wasn’t – I don’t think anyone on here or even in the UK press has stated that it was ….. secondly for the pure image of impartiality surely an Englishman shouldn’t be anywhere near this decision – if he’s given 2 weeks then I think it’ll be a fair call to start asking some serious questions …

Edwards’ column in the Guardian this week should be a cracker

Has Dan Carter been the victim of video foul play?

One thing that I did think was an improvement on Sat was the poms reverting to a far more traditional looking jersey … lets hope the ARU choose to revert back to a better looking one than the current mess …

The Wallabies slam England in a terrific Test

How long before the calls start form the Australian press and public that Genia is world class, destined to be the the best halfback in the world and is Farr Jones and Gregan all rolled into 1

The Wallabies slam England in a terrific Test

KPM – you continue to gloss over one massive factor when mentioning Mcmeniman – he’s brittle, his body was unable to stand up to 1 full season of either S12 / 14 … I doubt he even completed 1 end of year tour …. he’s in Japan for 1 reason and 1 reason only – it’s a level at which he can prolong his career without forever being on the physio’s couch … throw in he’s not really a second rower anyway and he’s certainly not the Aussies answer to their 2nd row problems …

The Wallabies slam England in a terrific Test

Fine – note the tackle – but why not then make comment on the 3 separate cynical infringements by the welsh when NZ was camped on their tryline – penalty given each time yet no hint of any further action – as I say Warren open both eyes – it’s swings and roundabouts out there

Laws 15, 16: how do All Blacks get away with it?

Here’s a thought Warren – try watching the game with both eyes open – instead of concentrating on trying to spot as many infringements of 1 team as possible – that way you’ll see that it’s actually not as one sided as you want it to be

Laws 15, 16: how do All Blacks get away with it?

No surprise there’s no comment on Leonard being kicked in the face – or the welsh hands that caused Leonard to knock on when went over – card ? Penalty try ? – but not the AB way to complain they leave that to the opposition

Wales left fuming with Carter after All Blacks loss

That’s the thing Harry – there were 2 teams out there on Sat night – so why single 1 out – as the headline suggests – all AB fan is doing is pointing out Wallaby infringements – it is too simplistic to concentrate on 1 team and then point at the ref and say but for him we could have won – which was basically Dean’s latest excuse and the media’s hype from HK last year
