'Wanted to hit, wanted to hurt': Brayden Maynard - the guilty man found innocent

Maynard wanted to hit. Maynard wanted to hurt. And most of all, he wanted to do it in a way that could be disguised as a football action.

This is the basis of your argument and I totally disagree with you.

I believe he wanted to smother and the result was unfortunate. Why would you want to smother there? To stop the ball from going inside 50 and giving the Melbourne forwards a chance to mark and goal, that’s why.

Anyway, Go Lions!

Ashcroft probably won’t be a match winner every week but will have a massive impact at AFL level this year. He is ready made and going into a team already in contention which is much easier than needing to be the star straight away like most who go top 5 in the draft.

2023 Best 23s: More new guns than they know what to do with, how do the Lions fit everyone in?

Coleman actually isn’t fast but is an extremely good kick and decision maker.

No, I said pick 15 (or 7 if they get Bowes over the line) plus the McStay compo pick which is clearly more than just a McStay/Dunkley swap. In fact I’d even go as far as to say it’s whole first round pick more.

FWIW I think McStay gets a very bad wrap from people outside Brisbane who don’t watch much of their games or understand how important he’s been to the Lions forward structure. They win a lot more games with him in the forward line than they lose.

AFL News: Why Bombers opted for Scott over Hird, departing Dog claims awkward B&F, Gunston to Lions

Lions will trade next years first round pick for points this year to then get Ashcroft and Fletcher. Pick 15 (or 7 if they get Bowes) this year and the McStay compo for Dunkley. Dunkley is a very good player (some would say great) but there are very few players worth 2 first round picks and too many examples of it going wrong when clubs give up that much. Shiel, Kelly and Treloar (good player but they’re currently paying him to play elsewhere.

Lions usually happy to pay a fair price but not overs.

Charlie Cameron for pick 6
Lachie Neale and pick 30 for picks 6, 19 and 55

Plus if the Lions do match the Ashcroft bid they won’t have the pick 17 as listed above. Fletcher could be anywhere from 15-40 in this draft as this group hasn’t played much footy over the last 2 years and the recruiters don’t have much data.

Ashcroft the clear #1 at the moment too

A way-too-early mock AFL draft

It seems there a few people who disagree with this statement. I am one

Media bullying of Jordan De Goey has been a disgusting witch-hunt

I reckon they’re more like Geelong of 2004-2006 (hopefully not 2006) and ready for a true dynasty

AFL 2022 Radar: 'Brisbane keep failing on the big finals stage'

Fair enough but considering Brisbane finished top 4 last year I can’t see how any of the sides you listed have gone past them.

I don’t closely follow Freo so there may be something in what you said but only time will tell.

Lions top 4, take it to the bank, they’ve gone forward not backwards

The four players who could make or break Brisbane Lions in 2022

Not going to get into too much but if you want to say thing like “The season hasn’t started yet” then you probably shouldn’t suggest “There’s one major reason; other sides have gone past them.” Especially when the Lions hadn’t played a practice game at that point.

They looked pretty good against the Crows but the Crows had a lot of players out under covid protocols so it’s hard to know how much to take from it.

Can’t see the Lions taking a ruckman after taking one in the midseason draft, last years draft and trading in Darcy Fort. Another teenage ruckman is the last thing they need

Couldn’t agree more and I’m a Lions fan. What about something like 6, 8 and 25 for Neale and 18?

It’s a very Melbourne centric way of thinking.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 14

I think you’re overestimating how filthy the Lions were. They wouldn’t commit to taking Lachie Johnson but said they’d consider him as a rookie only. They also passed on both Cumberland and Martyn as they had others in mind, namely Jaxon Prior who is currently a mainstay in the best 22.

AFL fixtures in chaos with Tigers-Crows match moved to Sydney

I can’t help but wonder how many Tigers supporters would be more than happy with a game at Marvel now that their hallowed MCG home game has been moved to Sydney.

AFL fixtures in chaos with Tigers-Crows match moved to Sydney

Simple solution.

Give the Tigers 11 home games at the G and then any games against fellow MCG tenants can be played at their ‘alternative’ home ground. Play the Cats in Geelong, Hawthorn in Tassie, Essendon at Marvel and Melbourne in Alice Springs.

Considering the Tigers love to publicise how well they play the G it would be in the interest of the other teams to take them away from it. Would also help the AFL promote the game away from the Melbourne heartland and force the Tigers to do some of the heavy lifting for a change.

Might stop the whinging for a bit too.

Damien Hardwick wants more MCG home games

If the Lions take anyone it will be Crozier. Don’t see them taking another ruck even though there’s not too much ruck experience after the Big O. Smith coming back from injury and Fullarton does a reasonable job. Daniher would take more responsibility if needed too, especially now that McStay is back in the team.

Mock mid-season rookie draft order

No jesting here. Tigers last seven at the G was a much more charmed run.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 13

Brisbane have played 7 away and 5 home games this season. I wonder how many Melbourne teams would be happy to consider playing at Geelong every week and having that called a run of home games.

Interesting that the Tigers got to play the Suns at the gabba and the Lions at Metricon, they are such a protected species it is laughable.

Caven moved on after a year with Plugger on the list and the last thing we want would be for Harris to go elsewhere if we got Cameron.

AFL trades: The top five out-of-contract players to watch in 2020

I agree. Brisbane lost 659 games of experience but 334 (or there abouts) were from Hodge and the rest from players mostly playing reserves (Walker, Taylor, Robertson and Cutler)
