The past is the past but you’re the one who made the comparison between Ashwin and Lyon(based on the past) and I was just pointing out that Lyon has been very predictable in recent times vs India. That may change now…will be interesting to see.

No Pant, Iyer or Bumrah but India have plenty of depth as Aussies miss pace duo for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Not a bad comparison except that this Aussie team are also aging and will soon be in transition which wasn’t the case in 1991. Looking back, I think Border was too scarred by previous battles with the WI to be able to be brave enough to win against them…even though they came so close a year later in Adelaide.

Kohli a weak link? Dismal century drought puts pressure on Virat as Aussie nemesis circles

I would add that the 2011-12 Indian team which toured Australia was very strong on paper and reputation but it was weak in reality.
Dravid and Sachin were on their last legs…Laxman should have been pensioned off way before, Sehwag and Gambhir were lazy and complacent after the WC triumph, Dhoni didn’t give a damn about Tests and Kohli was struggling to make it in Tests. A terrible batting lineup.

India have been heavily dependent on Rishabh and Jadeja in the batting in the last 2 years. Rohit will really need to come to the party. I agree that India’s batting is very nervy.

I love Test cricket way more but I think people are excited about this because it feels like a contest after soooo many white ball matches.

In the last 3 series between these two teams, Lyon has started off very quickly but become extremely and innocuous by the 3rd and definitely the 4th Tests. His bowling in 2020-21 was a big reason for Australia failing to win..apart from the poor leadership by captain/coach.

I think that this series could end up being make or break in a huge way for Kohli.
If he doesn’t regain form and struggles big time, then he could very well be facing the axe and may not last the year in cricket.

However, if he regains form and has a big series then, not only will he be back to his best, but I can actually see him becoming Test captain by the end of the year as Rohit is having major fitness issues and the WC could be his swansong. Kohli is a couple of years younger in age an at least 5 years younger in terms of fitness…Rahul is the vice captain but his form has been dreadful and it’s too soon for Iyer…

Could be a very interesting time.

Reminds me of the old ABC broadcasts with Norman May as the main commentator..”that’s a good shot, will it go for 4? No he’s been caught at slip!”

I think Mandela himself said that the sporting boycott had an impact…not the most impact but some impact.
Let’s not forget that there was already a sporting boycott on SA before 1968-69..in cricket, it was by WI, India and Pakistan but the SA govt didn’t care as their teams still got to play the white nations. This incident changed things significantly.

What’s more and this is where it differs from the current issue with Afghanistan, one always had the feeling that the SA govt wanted acceptance from the relevant authorities of Aus, NZ and the UK. That’s why they would go to great lengths to highlight what improvements to the minorities they were making to sport under the Apartheid system.

The Taliban couldn’t care less about this.

I think he lied about his age..it was felt that he wouldn’t have got as far as he did in England if they had known his real age.

Yes after Cowdrey assured him that he would be in his team.

He was offered money to coach in SA, not coach SA. Big difference…probably coach at a school

What about the game where WA were all out for 70odd and then bowled out Queensland containing Greg Chappell and Viv for 63?

The history of Australian domestic limited-overs cricket: Part 1

Absolutely…it happened all the time in indoor cricket and you just knew that you had to wait.

Not all media- mainly the English cricket media and players and ex-players.

I honestly think that the mankad run out is the easiest of all run outs to adjudicate for the umpire on the ground. I mean, its literally happening in front of his eyes and many times the batter is just standing there afterwards.

I think that the reviews are there simply to give captains and bowlers time to withdraw the appeal.

I agree that the more it happens now, the less it will happen in the future.

Pant was a much better keeper last year compared to before but India will miss his batting especially under pressure more than anything.

Can Australia claim their first Test series win in India since 2004?

I thought it was the variable bounce which was more of a problem. Remember the way Smith was lbw to Yadav in the 4th inns?

Can Australia claim their first Test series win in India since 2004?

Lyon has started the last 3 series vs India very well but become innocuous by the 3rd Test. What he did in India in 2017 was replicated in the 2 series in Australia…2020-21 was the worst of them all.

However, Indian batsmen haven’t been playing as well recently and this should give hope to Lyon.
Again though, judge him by the end of the series not how he is doing midway thru the 2nd Test.

Can Australia claim their first Test series win in India since 2004?

India start favorites simply as its at home but I think it may well be Australia who win this series.
India have been heavily dependent on Rishab Pant’s batting recently, both home and away. Rahul, Pujara and Kohli all have been average while Rohit has been way too injured.

I can see all of them leaving the scene within the next 2 years if not sooner..only Kohli seems capable of a 2nd wind.
The youngsters have not been trusted enough.

In the bowling, they will be missing Bumrah and maybe Jadeja as well.

Aus have their problems in batting in these conditions but at least their players are in form and can recall how to play big innings unlike India.

'I don’t think I’ll coach again': Langer reveals fallout from exit 'literally broke my heart'

I have nothing but hatred for the Taliban and their awful “policies” but I think that CA is being very sneaky here. If it truly offends their sensibilities to be playing this series against Afghanistan then, they shouldn’t be playing any cricket vs Afghanistan.

They just played a match in the T20 WC a few months ago and may well play them again in the WC in India.

Don’t give me this rubbish about it being an ICC event…Australia should refuse to play Afghanistan anywhere, anytime and if they lose 2 pts because of the cowardice of the ICC then so be it. That’s called taking a strong stand.

And for those asking, yes…I feel exactly the same way about India only playing Pakistan in ICC events and not bilaterally…it smacks of hypocrisy and money hungry behavior and regrettably, so does this.

Cricket News: 'They'll pick the white guy' - Khawaja claims racism still rife in Australian cricket, Rashid threatens BBL boycott

Barely anyone gave us a chance in England? Really? Most pundits slightly favored Australia before the series started and then heavily so once Anderson got injured in the first Test for the simple reason that England were a poor Test team under Root and the coach Baylis was far more interested in the ODIs…he was there to win the 2019 WC which they did.

Re:India; losing a home series against a depleted team should cause some changes in leadership…Paine was a poor captain who panicked when things got a bit too hot. Cummins is a far more mature captain… Aus might not win in India although it will be close but I fully expect them to win in England inspite of England’s recent upturn. If Paine was still captain, I would expect losses in both.

Team was 'afraid of JL, that's the truth', 'walking on eggshells': Players lift lid on Langer anger in doco

No I am not blaming poor performances on the leadership, just poor decisions.
Decisions like bowling first at the Oval…calling for an law review when even the bowler was saying it pitched outside leg….captain getting sucked into a needless sledging game with Ashwin and then dropping a catch..failing to see that the bowlers were exhausted after 3 Tests and at least one of them had to be rested or dropped.

These are all decisions made by the management…I blame Paine more than Langer for this but anyone who thinks that they were an unqualified success is deluding themselves.

Same leadership also lost a home series against an injury hit team full of debutants and near debutants. Record shows that things got tough, the leadership wasn’t up to the mark.
