Yeah I haven’t had time to go through the full report, just going off the headline announcement from Doorn.

Jorgensen set to be left out for Hurricanes as Schmidt drops in at Tahs training

Jez, not sure if you saw but NSWRU announced a $4.8M loss last night.

It’s the hope that kills 😉

I hope you’re right but I feel like whenever we’ve gone to NZ for these big games we’ve had our butts handed to us 🙁

Lol I feel you.

He’s probably right though in this case… 🙁

Maybe they should plan to not have 7 of their 9 first choice front rowers injured next year.

Probably save him from getting destroyed over there, gonna be ugly.

She could still be your aunty in this day and age….

Five things: Aussie sides finally discover what it takes to compete against Kiwis, rookie outshines World Cup Wallaby

I think there’s also a philosophical position that SR is a provincial competition and the Waratahs are the team that represents the “province” of NSW. There’s nothing to stop them making it a proper club-based competition but that has always been resisted.
I live in western Sydney and rugby is not really on the radar. Only really a handful of clubs, not much general interest. You could stick a team out here like the AFL did with GWS but it would be hard graft to make it work. Ideally you’d have proper development and investment in the area for a long period before you tried.

Rugby Australia's debts blow out to almost $89 million after draw-down of PEP facility

Wasn’t a big chunk of that used to pay off the previous debt arrangement, which was at a higher interest rate?

We could have saved a lot more than $$ by skipping the world cup….

Rugby Australia announce $9.2m deficit, board member fails to be re-elected but coup falls over

$10M in the hole seems to be the cost of going to a world cup. You’d think World Rugby could help cover given the gazillions they make from it.

I think they are. The NRL has a TV deal of $400M pa, AFL $640M, RA has $30M pa. Hard to compete with those numbers.

The Wrap: Rebels young gun rockets out of Wallabies contention, and why Samipeni Finau's 'brutal' hit on Edmed was fair game

When you compare to what the AFL and NRL are throwing around it’s hard to see how rugby can make a dent in either state…or any of the others.

Not zero effect, but you wonder why there’s barely a rugby club or school in western Sydney, home to a couple of million people, and there’s a big part of your answer.

2 in Sydney. Part timers in the country.

WA got $251K for a similar number of players so were worse off per capita than the other states. I don’t know how individual states allocate their funding but obviously there is more to pay for than development officers, and the costs for running 58K players will be greater than for 12K players.

NSWRU got $1.47M, rest to the Tahs. Same as went to every other SR club. The report is online.

Need to mimic the Reds recipe for success.

Not proportionally. In 2022 NSW received $1.48M, Vic $377K. NSW had 59K registered players, Vic 12K. So proportionally, NSW received $25.50 per player, Vic received $31.40 per player.
Reality is, NSW has 2 development officers for all of Sydney. The only reason there is any rugby development in NSW is because the private schools fund themselves.

Go and tell the clubs in NSW and Qld how much funding is directed to the heartlands. I’m sure they need a good laugh.

You know exactly what I mean. RA wants the clubs centralised and the Hamish model was to put the squeeze on them financially to force that to happen. That has happened with the tahs, so they are where RA want them to be, where RA want all the clubs to be.

One way of looking at it I suppose. Another would be that perhaps they could produce their own players and this wouldn’t be an issue.
