Congrats on the boys winning the Cup. But in case anyone is looking at these kids and thinking higher selection – well Fraser-McGurk was considered the best U19 bat in the world at the time. And his selection in the one-day team is optimistic at best. Its a very big step up.

Not wanting to name drop but I’ve had a little bit to do with 2 of the boys. Both (one bat and one bowler) are playing 1sts in Sydney and neither is really tearing it up. Good cricketers and good kids but the step to shield is one thing and the step to further honours is another thing all together. Let em grow as cricketers and we’ll see where they are all at in 5 years.

Champions! Australia U19s break 14-year drought with dominant World Cup final win, India bridesmaids again

😂 😂
Bro – You funny. No mention that without a 90NO in a losing side he’s averaging meh? Or that because we didn’t have a world class #4 we couldn’t get the bikkies? Or that Green isn’t even the best allrounder in his state? Or we go with Shield stats are the be all and end all (hint hint bangers)?

Selectors played crazy land to keep Bangers out of the team. This is not a secret. Their amazing decisions cost a test against, wait for it, a Gabba test against a second 11 WI team. Not there best guys – a second 11. And now we are talking WTC points are important.

Man – too funny.

Bailey defends decision to recall veteran ahead of young guns as Aussies reveal Test squad for New Zealand tour

Vital WTC points? Did you think of that at all before you put an untried test opener and #4 in the team? Or you moved probably the worlds best test #4 out of position? You know we just dropped a game to the Windies at home. Mainly due to a kid that went through us like butter – so the issue was obviously batting.

Any accountability at all selectors? Or do we have to wait until the next WTC final before someone gives u clowns the boot.

Out all day every day. You cannot make no effort to get back in your crease and use the bat to hit it the second time and then continue to stand there. Green has to be trying to get into his crease.

Balls in play. Bat is out of his crease. Seems a genuine shy. You just cannot do that and if I was Whiteman, I’d be pretty annoyed at the decision. This isn’t even a spirit of cricket question.

Obstructing the field drama erupts as Sheffield Shield features latest 'spirit of cricket' incident

Lol. No wicket keeper has been hit in the head like that in 200 years? 😂 😂 😂

Sam Harper says hello. U sure you got the units right?

'Get a grip': Broad fumes, cricket world erupts as Poms cop hugely controversial wicket in U19 World Cup

Interesting point. The first part of the obstruction rule is in play. If its in play, he’s dead to rights per the the obstruction rule. So was the ball dead? You could make an argument that the ball was wedged between his foot and the ground (before he moved his foot) so was dead under 20.1.1.4. You could also argue that it came under 20.1.2 where the ump just thinks everyone thinks its dead (no one is running and no one is trying to take a wicket because the ball is stationary).

So could argue the umps could have just called it dead and job done. And didn’t.

'Get a grip': Broad fumes, cricket world erupts as Poms cop hugely controversial wicket in U19 World Cup

Intimidatory bowling doesn’t cover the massive no ball bouncer and for your first offence, its a no ball anyways. You could be pinged on a misconduct charge but if u were smart, you’d go accident etc. etc etc. If you go back in your crease and swing right through into the keeper, good luck with proving it was deliberate. The hurling the ball at a bat is easy. Just get the keeper on board and rifle it all the time with plenty of back up and the keep just keeps ‘missing it’. Plenty of ways you can stooge it.

Know the game you are talking about cannot remember who was playing myself. The Guptill one from the UAE was a better example. Got pinged with an on drive at the non strikers, dropped the bat and sort of stumbled and the ball went straight to the bowler who ran him out. Munro the other Capt withdrew the appeal. Now that was one that I thought was very generous indeed.

'Get a grip': Broad fumes, cricket world erupts as Poms cop hugely controversial wicket in U19 World Cup

Yep. Entitled to appeal and the umps are entitled to uphold the appeal. I’m also entitled to bowl a 4m no ball and throw a bouncer in at the batsmans head (I’ll wear the no ball). Can also hurl the ball at the batsman who is in his crease and argue I was going for the stumps. I’m also entitled as a batsman to follow through on a sweep or pull when the keeper is up and take out the keeper. The list goes on and on.

Might be legal to do it. But you just don’t do it.

Is Barbados ok? Like Buddy Heild or Old Man Ayton? Or do we have to stick to Jamaicans like Andre Drummond? 😂 😂

Windies' dynasty decline a cautionary tale for Australian selectors with major transition period looming

Some guy named Patrick Ewing was apparently good at basketball. Maybe you’ve heard of him?

Windies' dynasty decline a cautionary tale for Australian selectors with major transition period looming

Per the Windies greats back in the day, the reason cricket dropped off in the Windies was purely and simply financial. Kids wanted to play baseball, basketball and athletics where the likelihood of a payday from it was greater than cricket (read Usain Bolt).

Not sure the process is comparable to Australia except in the argument of long form vs short form cricket.

Windies' dynasty decline a cautionary tale for Australian selectors with major transition period looming

Maybe a step too far. But there will be a point when you have 3 or 4 test playing nations. What then?

The IOC is probably the most corrupt buggers going and even they wouldn’t do this funding arrangement. That probably says something.

Test Mortem: Green’s golden status fading as batting unit becomes fragile, Windies need help to kick on from Gabba glory

You want to save test cricket – well heres a start. The ICC fund each nation annually. Australia and England get around $40M US. NZ and the Windies get just under $30M. Anyone want to guess what India get annually from the ICC? Over $230M US a year and yes, that is not a typo. The argument? Indian cricket pay the most for TV rights etc etc. Michael Holding once famously when he was in the ICC said what the hell? He was told its up to you to earn more money to get more money.

Shave India to around $60M annually and you got $10/$15M US a country to fund other test playing countries. I believe it cost the WICB $2M to come over to Australia – so do the numbers.

Test Mortem: Green’s golden status fading as batting unit becomes fragile, Windies need help to kick on from Gabba glory

U mean a leg cutter to the right hander? Wow – and here I am thinking thats been around for 70+ years and test bats have dealt with it. But guess not – must be a new thing. Thanks for updating my thinking.

Test Mortem: Adelaide shafted by schedule but pitch not up to scratch, Smith-Green jury still out, SOS to ICC for Windies

100%. No application at test batting level from either side. Another day Head gets bugger all and we have a top score of 50 odd for the test. Was the bowling that good or the pitch that bad? Nope.

Test Mortem: Adelaide shafted by schedule but pitch not up to scratch, Smith-Green jury still out, SOS to ICC for Windies

Oh that book. So you want me to read about how so much rubbish got buried under the carpet and how no one dealt with it because it never saw the light of day? And your first response when I told you what I knew was sarcasm when all I was trying to do was encourage journos to do their due diligence. Guess writing a book years after the fact is better?

I’m out but thanks for the advice.

The only Rogers rumour I ever heard was that he hit onto someones GF in WA cricket. And that he was a goose for it. Not blackbanned by a collective of players. Different horses as I said b4.

Picking apart the selectors’ choices in the Bailey era: Masterstrokes tarnished by blunders as Australia face future upheaval

U either pick bowlers on the basis of horses for courses or balance across the attack. The balance of the Aussie team is about as good as you can get. I like Richardson but his body is shot. If Patterson could have stayed fit, you may never have had Cummins. To me the only one in that list that can feel a little hard done by is Neser. Boland being picked over him was a laugh but he then went ahead and did a job and a half. So you sort of cannot argue against it.

Thats cricket. Ask Macgill, the guy who imv was the most serious ripper of a ball I’ve ever seen. He just had the misfortune to be born either 10 years too early or 10 years too late.

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

Yeah – Rogers got dropped on a 50/50 and complained to the media about it and made it a conspiracy theory about NSW. Now if he outscored Jaques in that test, then its all a moot point. And Rogers recent shield performance was good but not spectacular, at a time we were looking for another opener.

Sometimes its also how you got out, Rogers took a long time changing his style to avoid squaring up and being LB all the time. Think these are different horses…

Picking apart the selectors’ choices in the Bailey era: Masterstrokes tarnished by blunders as Australia face future upheaval

Think you’re applying a broad brush to a range of different circumstances. Hodge was known to be flaky under certain circumstances (and deadly under others) and they really like Martyn from an allround perspective. Rogers was always on borrowed time due to age and the Katich story – well when it gets down to it – Katich got aggressive first. Justified or not.

I know you want names here and you’re not getting them because I’ve already broken trust by putting this up. And I’ve omitted a lot of details for the same reason. And as I said in the first post, not up to me to open this up, thats for the journos. And if its as you say a COULD, then should it not be in the best interest of the journos to go beyond asking George in a big presser? Maybe ask some of the other people present at various times and get them off the record.

Tick box, write article, get paid, move on. Not my job to police lazy journalism.

Picking apart the selectors’ choices in the Bailey era: Masterstrokes tarnished by blunders as Australia face future upheaval

I’ll say that neither are from WA if that helps. And neither has any personal relationship to Bancroft as far as I’m aware.

The point here is if this is true and I am very confident it is, you have players banning other players. Since when is that a thing?

MJ was 100% right. Instead the media took him to task because it was easier to regurge the ‘sanctum’ pressers instead of doing the job properly. CA and selectors etc. are not going to rock the boat, they know they are easier to sack then players are. So its on the media to open this mess up.

Picking apart the selectors’ choices in the Bailey era: Masterstrokes tarnished by blunders as Australia face future upheaval

Yeah. Was going to go four but then I’d be lying so 2 it is. Go figure.

Happy to go with a guy thats got a few baggy greens in his cupboard rather than someone who uses the word titti.

Whats above is what I was told twice. 4 months apart. Before the selection battle. By two completely unrelated people. In two completely different contexts that ended up at the same place.

Believe what u will.

Picking apart the selectors’ choices in the Bailey era: Masterstrokes tarnished by blunders as Australia face future upheaval

Heard from 2 separate sources – one ex-national and one state level, that 2 players in the current setup having been pushing against Bancroft in the squad since the infamous sandpaper interview. To the point they made it clear they will not accept him the team. And the coaches/selectors are scared of being ‘Langered’ – so here we are today. And tbf – if what I’ve heard is true – gotta ask what some of these journos do for a living. This apparently is not buried very deep at all.
