Well spotted, this point and many other inconsistencies have been discussed by my mates as well.

All of the “interested parties” have inconsistencies, which is no surprise. But the gap between Hird’s “I’m shocked to be sitting here really” and the recent statements from Essendon could have a truck load of unidentified amino acids driven through them.

What was missing from Dean Robinson's interview?

The Bombergeddon awaits.

Had enough of the ASADA saga yet?

James Hird, you say. Well I never!

Actovegin: good, sinister or just a sham?

So, what your saying is Hird has taken all care and no responsibility? Just pass the buck and make someone else take the blame?

Like, Stephen Dank, for example.
Like, Dean Robinson, for example.
Like, Ian Robson, for example.
Like, David Evans, for example.

Not long to go now.

Brace yourselves: the drugs crisis will only get worse

Nobody is comfortable going into a season when a team has no incentive to win. Perhaps talk of such matters might help people to understand just how serious this situation is.

Yet, in a choice between a team playing with no incentive and letting a team inject, ingest, rub any old substance that comes their way, well it’s a pretty simple choice. Don’t you think?

We keep hearing the word integrity bandied about, it would be nice if we saw some. With the amount of leaks from all sides it would seem few know the meaning of the word, as just one example.

Regardless of what the final outcome from the investigation is, the AFL has already been tarnished by this saga.

Soon, but when appropriate, the AFL needs to restore the fans’ faith in the game and the AFL’s administration thereof. I know I’ve lost a lot of faith in the AFL CEO in the last few months, among others.

The gravity and possible fallout of the way this saga is handled into the future is so far beyond the scope of Essendon’s best interests that it can barely be measured.

Essendon may be in turmoil, but their future is bright

From memory it was one club and a few (ie. 2 or 3) players at other clubs wasn’t it?

ASADA must act if Bombers beat Hawks

“Very few commentators can do excited better than Bruce.”

I can’t stand his growling when he’s calling what he thinks is an exciting passage of play. It just doesn’t sound believable to me.

I also can’t stand the way he delivers his call starting slowly, deliberately stalling mid-word to try and build excitement.

And let’s not get into the terrible banalities like “The two numbers 32s, eh?” Really, WTF do countless mindless observations like that add to the call?

Actually, I just can’t stand Bruce. He’s 10-15 years past it. If Channel 7 had any nous—clearly they don’t given Luke Darcy, Matthew Richardson and Mark McVeigh are in their employ—they would have called time on Bruce’s AFL calling career a long time ago.

Huddo is good though, I do agree on that!

AFL commentary worthy of the moment

I would like to see the best result for the betterment of the sport and Australian Rules football. What’s best for the club(s) involved in any matter such as this is secondary to what is best for the game.

Furthermore, I sincerely hope no consideration is given to the merits of Essendon’s premiership chances next year, or in any future year, when the AFL decides its fate.

For example, and if it comes to this, I’d have no problems starting a season knowing a team is banned from scoring points if it meant everyone involved in the game—from club administrators to players and quite clearly some fans—got the message that drug cheating is not acceptable.

Essendon may be in turmoil, but their future is bright

“Not only would this be fair and immediate, from an AFL perspective, it would be better not to compromise next year if at all possible.”

Hang on a minute, Essendon has shown no regard for the betterment of the broader competition, why on earth should anyone care if their inevitable penalties compromise their 2014 season?

The whole point of the “supplements regime” was to expedite the physical development of their players. It was designed to have lasting and ongoing benefits.

People do understand that don’t they?

Sorry, I forgot, they’re the victims in all of this. How short sighted of me. I know, why don’t we give them a few extra draft picks for their suffering.

Essendon may be in turmoil, but their future is bright

Hird doesn’t need a spin doctor to prompt him to play woe is me, he’s got 50,000+ members willing to do that for him.

It makes me sick.

At best Hird requested his fitness staff to bulk up his players faster than any other club and was too stupid to realise how they were implementing his instructions for the best part of 12 months.

At worst Hird requested his fitness staff to bulk up his players faster than any other club and renewed his long standing friendship with Shane Charter for “advice” and drove the whole sorry affair with a cavalier attitude to do “whatever it takes” high on his own ego telling him he could do no wrong.

And yet the overwhelming response, still, from the fans in one incapable of stopping, considering what we know (and we only know the tip of the iceberg, I believe) and asking, what if St James isn’t so golden?

David Evans quits as Essendon chairman

Possibly, but any that are would not be in any of the key positions within the football department or administration.

David Evans quits as Essendon chairman

Bump!

Essendon fans have no idea what’s ahead of them

It’s pleasing to read the tide of comments asking why so many people are so willing to paint Evans and co as innocent victims.

Let’s be clear, the football department and administration are NOT victims.

They have brought the shame, scrutiny and pain upon themselves and their players. They wanted to take shortcuts by speeding up the physical development of their players and have been caught out. Nobody made them do that., it was a choice of their own free will.

I’m also fairly certain that most of the EFC fans having a sook about the media and general fans commenting on the drugs saga and not letting the investigation take its course were willing participants in sinking the boot into Carlton 10 or so years ago, even though Essendon’s own history of rorting the salary cap is probably only second to Carlton’s.

Carlton fans learnt the hard way back then, while everyone laughed and joined in the fun. It’s a shame nobody else really paid attention to how that crisis was handled by the media etc, because none of what we’re seeing now should come as any surprise.

Moreover, Caroline Wilson was in the sights of Carlton fans back then just as she is with Essendon fans now. But, she was right about Carlton. History has proven her correct.

You may not like her, and she may, at times, be little more than a gossip columnist, but she has runs on the board. That alone should send shivers down the spines of any non-delusional EFC fans.

Finally, when will Essendon fans learn to accept that what their club has been accused of, and by all accounts looks certain to be guilty of, is one of the most shameful episodes in the history of sport in Australia, let alone the VFL/AFL?

It’s time the fans took ownership of this mess and admitted what a farce their club is right now.

It can be rebuilt, but first you need to accept the possibility and likely outcome that your club is guilty as charged.

Until that happens, nothing will change.

David Evans quits as Essendon chairman

Roos might be coaching Essendon in 2014, haha. 😉

Really, why would Paul Roos return?

Will James Hird stand down if Caro’s comments are proven to be correct? Doubt it. Responsibility eh?

Emotional Hird on defensive over saga

Has anyone asked Roos if he would like to coach West Coast next year?

Back to this article, I think Rocket could be a good fit. But I like the idea of Choco taking over at Melbourne. I think he has the right no nonsense attitude they need.

Melbourne needs a Rocket fired up them

Please, enlighten us with your theories as to why you believe that to be the case?

Essendon fans have no idea what’s ahead of them

Oh boy, wowee!

Essendon fans have no idea what’s ahead of them

He is an absolute pleasure to watch this guy. Let’s hope his career reaches the heights we all think it can. It’s a great signing for the Suns, well done them.

Suns lock down Jaeger O'Meara

Thankfully, history probably paints a fairly just picture of Elliott’s time as Carlton president. He oversaw some great times, I can’t deny him that. But towards the end he had spiralled out of control and as we saw, the ramifications have been fierce.

Essendon fans have no idea what’s ahead of them

Hang on, only one club has won 16 grand finals. 🙂

“Locked up” interesting choice of words, haha.

Bombers members owed a refund

Well said Judy.

And yet, the majority of members think those in charge at EFC are saints. It’s actually quite scary! They’re either in denial at the seriousness of the issues at play or are part of some weird cult.

Bombers members owed a refund

A refund? Haha, that’s pretty funny, you should take that on the road.

From what I can tell most EFC members appear to FULLY SUPPORT David Evans and James Hird.

Just have a think about that for a moment.

It would appear most Essendon supporters are unable to separate their love for the club from their support from the very individuals who have overseen this self-inflicted malaise they are in.

Worse, they think Evans and Hird are victims!

Now, if there was a groundswell of support from the members to actually throw out the current board to try and put this mess right then, yes, I would very much agree with the premise of refunding memberships and I’d even have sympathy for the members. If that was the case then this article would make a hell of a lot of sense.

Sadly, but for a select few that I have encountered, most Bomber fans think Evans and Hird have no case to answer. Regardles of what happens to the players, these guys have lied by pretending they didn’t know what was going on and have remained in their jobs as if their crap doesn’t stink.

We all know that Matthew Knights would have been boned in early February if he was the coach at the time this saga broke, and that pretty much tells you why the members don’t deserve a refund. Funny that the only admin person held responsible so far is the ex-Hawthorn bloke.

If this was happening at my club I would be filthy with the board and coaching staff for a) starting a supplements program clearly against the spirit of the game, and quite possibly against its laws as well, and b) for lying to me about saying they had no idea it was going on.

Whatever it takes right, haha!

Bombers members owed a refund

Way to miss the point, haha!

Is Watson on par with Powell and Gay?

So the defence is pinning its hopes on the apparent fact that AOD-9604 was declared not prohibited, while ASADA is saying it never gave any party approval to use AOD-9604 in sport and that its position on AOD-9604 is no different to WADAs (ie. it is banned under S0).

We need to know what question was asked.

Was it a general is AOD-9604 a banned substance?
(Answer, yes under S0 catch-all, which is on the first page of the WADA banned substances list.)

Or…

Was it strictly asked, is AOD-9604 banned under S2?
(Answer, no.)

If it was asked generally and ASADA gave the advice that AOD-9604 wasn’t banned at the time of asking then you can understand where Essendon’s confidence on that particular matter comes from.
