The effect of being a player up for 1/2 the game is a lot less in those conditions. On a dry pitch where the ball can be spread wide at every opportunity the effect is much greater.

Five talking points from All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions second Test

Good post taylorman. The referee was fair and to blame him for the loss is wrong. Yes, the All Blacks will start as strong favourites next week. And many New Zealand fans will be ‘advocating strongly’ for an All Black win, as you describe it.

That was a very soft yellow. It was completely different to what SBW did. Penalty only.

Five talking points from All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions second Test

Many New Zealand fans are admitting that the referee didn’t actually make any real errors according to the laws of the game he must apply. Well done. I agree. Others are blaming the referee for the loss which is a pity. I thought the referee did a good job overall. He controlled the game well and wasn’t influenced by the AB or Lions captains or the crowd.
Hansen’s constant reference to being a man down in the post match interview was unnecessary and sounded like he was making excuses. His reference to the Lions as Wales was messy at best and a poor attempt at mind games at worst. Like, really, get it right, they have just defeated the All Blacks at home for goodness sakes. Make sure you show the respect that is deserved. The AB captains post match interview created a far stronger impression of a man who won’t make excuses. Numbers were even for 1/2 the game weren’t they? And teams being a man down portions of the game are very common now.
Must add that I tipped a Lions win in this match because of the factors know before the match. The weather, the northern hemisphere referee and the expectation of an essay All Blacks win, by 25 points according to several regulars on here. The X factor was the necessary element of luck which SBW handed them with his head high shoulder charge. Thanks Sonny for making my tip correct. Hope the guy he clobbered is OK.
Next week’s weather will again be a factor but the expectation of an easy win should be gone. That will make things a lot harder for the Lions. Eden park, sorry, but yuck. That won’t help them either. They could win, the pressure will be on the All Blacks and lightning can strike twice. But I am tipping the ABs to get home and a much more charming and respectful Hansen to front the press afterwards.

Sorry mate, what were they scared of? You on a push bike in Wellington in a red jumper?

Highlights: Lions level! All Blacks beaten, Sonny Bill red-carded

Nice comment. Let’s be honest though, the All Black did very well to stay in that match the way they did. In the end the Lions looked to be getting more dominant as the game went on. That is no sledge on the All Blacks, no other team could have really made a match of it the way they did.

You predicted a 25 point victory for this match. What is your call now for next week?

Highlights: Lions level! All Blacks beaten, Sonny Bill red-carded

No, don’t agree. SBW committed the offence and the rules were applied. Same as for any offence. It’s all part of the game. A win is a win.

????ok, sounds like it frustrated you a little, that is understandable.

Has he got concussion?

The commentators don’t play or referee the game. I think you should have another look at what actually happened on the field instead of what the commentators did.

That strikes me as very deliberate. Like, really, how could he possible do that?

Highlights: Lions level! All Blacks beaten, Sonny Bill red-carded

Absolutely agree. They needed some luck to win and got it. The poor guy whose head was clobbered probably doesn’t think it was ‘luck’ though!

Did the red make 28 points difference?

Highlights: Lions level! All Blacks beaten, Sonny Bill red-carded

Don’t think anyone will care, except New Zealand fans looking, understandably for some excuse for the loss. And obviously it had a big impact. But SBW did the crime and the whole team has to do the time. Can’t blame the Lions for that. If the Lions win next week I am sure they won’t care at all.

Lions had the weather, the expectation of an easy AB win and the French referee going for them. All they needed was some luck and SBW provided that. Some more luck and they could snag another win next week. Better believe it. Its is unlikely but so was this.

You can’t blame the referee for a shoulder charge to the head.

You predicted a 25 point victory to the All Blacks. You were not alone. The conditions, a French referee and a red card cost them the game. The conditions and the referee were known in advance and were why I said the Lions could win, if they got some luck. SBW provided that.
Are you sticking with that scoreline for next week?

A great match. I predicted a 1 point win to the Lions. 2 tries to the Lions and a definite red card. SBW, always a gamble. It was quite deliberate in that he definitely went in hard with the shoulder. I don’t think for a minute he meant to impact the head, but he did and it got what it deserved. Got a lot of abuse on here for saying the Lions could win this.

I think you have a few issues there ClarkG. Can’t recall one post from you that didn’t have a nasty edge to it. I don’t indulge in nasty, I just give honest opinions without running others down. I don’t feel any need to do that.

Why I'll be cheering for the Lions this weekend

What are you on about mate? Are you a stalker or something?

Warburton returns in do or die Test for the Lions

Yes, but that last Lions try was quite well constructed and had a concerted build up. Do the ABs give up before the final whistle? Don’t think so. I still expect the ABs to win, but wind, rain and a French referee all add to the mix. As you say, it will take an 80 (or 85 depending on how long it goes) minute effort, a bit of luck and some beneficial calls.

Warburton returns in do or die Test for the Lions

I think the Lions have a better chance of winning this than many on here give them. If we take the last AB try off them (it resulted from the bounce of the ball from a box kick) the score becomes 23-15. Not such a big stretch. Plus the ABs were incredibly good in that match with almost every difficult catch sticking. I think dropping Teo is a mistake, otherwise the selections are ok.

In the RWC the Wallaby defence was very good. I hope he can design another good system to counter what teams are doing in 2017. It’s is so easy to jump on the bandwagon. I wish the guy well and will judge him by his results in the role.

Nathan Grey wants defensive love after signing Wallabies extension

I am talking about what Australians are interested in. I think we are interested in watching local teams play in a local competition. Internationals should be between national teams. That is what works in the other three (more popular) codes in Australia.
