It is laughable, no stumping after the 6th ball, and stumping only allowed if attempting to gain an advantage or taking strike out of your crease. We don’t expect decency or consistency from the English press, but for the fans and so called “experts” like this “author” do debase themselves long after the heat of the moment is really quite concerning. One can only shake their head and genuinely wonder what is wrong with them…

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

If one of our blokes was out in that manner, the only commentary would be about their stupidity. It is utterly routine stuff that every kid learns before they are 10 years old.

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

Your narrative is incorrect. He didn’t see the ball go to the keeper. He didn’t even turn around. If he did, he would have seen the ball in flight heading toward the stumps, and he would have held his ground inside the crease. The ball was live, just as it would have been if it were the 3rd ball of the over.

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

Taking your stance outside the crease is irrelevant. The author make it clear as you say, because he wants to create a logical fallacy to support his feelings. He has nothing factual to say on the matter so makes up a non existent standard or element of the rules. No batter ever stumped was attempting to gain an advantage. They have either made a skill error, been beaten by the bowler, or showed a lack of awareness when the ball is live. Bairstow was quite obviously a case of the latter. And he was attempting to stump Marnus in the same manner.

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

You are simply making up non-existent elements to the laws of stumping to support your feelings. “Attempting to gain an advantage” and/or “making secondary moves” is made up nonsense. The reason for being out of the crease when the ball it live, is utterly irrelevant. Bairstow had a crack because he was hoping to catch Marnus napping. Marnus wasn’t napping, and the pommy backstop didn’t have the skill to execute anyway. However in the 4th innings, the batter was napping and the keeper was skilled. Those are the only different elements to the situations.

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

Why be so dishonest Gilberto. This is common dismissal in all forms of cricket and is utterly routine for keepers to attempt it, as Bairstow did in this game. “Gaining an advantage” is not an element of the stumping law. The reason you are out of the crease when the ball is live, is irrelevant. The only time one would withdraw an appeal is if the batsmen was out of his crease due to an action of the opposition. Like when the Pommy bowler knocked over the Kiwi batsmen in an ODI some years ago. Remember that one? It’s been doing the rounds on Social Media. Oh, but the Poms didn’t withdraw the appeal.

You are spot on. The senior players and coach have acted shamefully. Their rank dishonesty is next level. They have gone so far as to invent a new element to the stumping laws : “gaining an advantage” seems to be a new element.

And the lemmings of the Press and their fans have latched on to it. A made up standard designed purely so they can say what they attempted on Marnus was different. Their character is on show, and it is an awful sight.

'Acting like they're the greatest team': Pietersen tells England players to quit whingeing as Root cries foul over Bairstow

You are right Gordon, the Aussie press and sections of the crowd would behave in precisely the same way. And that’s fine, it’s just the nature of things. Where we are different is there is zero chance the Captain, players and Coach would make the embarrassing accusations that the two kiwis have done. But hey, we wouldn’t be facing 0-2 either.

Flem’s Verdict: Cummins shows true class on and off the field as England contradict their words with actions

Stokes clearly has history on it. Just last year against the Kiwis. And in “spirit of cricket” infractions in general, most notably claiming 4 runs that no other player in the history of the game would have claimed, to win the 2019 WC.

As you know, the Starc catch would have been accepted as a fair catch at any time in the history of the game, including by the batsmen walking off on the day.

Flem’s Verdict: Cummins shows true class on and off the field as England contradict their words with actions

No one suggests the atmosphere amped up for no reason. We know the reason…The English hoping for an amazing victory saw that chance slipping away and rather than being knowledgeable and honest fans, they pretended something untoward happened, rather than blaming their clueless backstop for lazy cricket. Poms and integrity are very uncomfortable bed fellows.

Flem’s Verdict: Cummins shows true class on and off the field as England contradict their words with actions

I don’t think PIE is going to respond. Your facts cannot be countered with anything logical…As we all know, there was zero difference except Bairstow being hopeless at throwing, and Marnus not being stupid by being out of his crease.

Flem’s Verdict: Cummins shows true class on and off the field as England contradict their words with actions

Let’s see if we have a pom with consistency…Did Bairstow attempting the same mode of dismissal 3 times in the very same test also “stoke the flames”?

Never in the history of Cricket has that been “Not out”. But if this is to be the new standard, there is going to be a lot more dropped catches than before.

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

Not at all. The catch was complete. The umpire made an error in terms of subjectively feeling that he wasn’t in control of his body. The MCC supporting this is an extraordinarily bad thing for the game.

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

It’s not old fashioned at all. The catch has always been a catch. Old fashioned would have seen him out, just as he thought he was.

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

Tell us another example. Just a single one. In the history of the game.

Its almost as though you don’t watch Cricket….Or know what contentious means…

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

You can certainly argue with the ruling, because it was interpreted in a manner never done before.

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

It revealed not a thing…except hypocritical Poms pretending it did…Just like the booing of Smith, (who was uninvolved with ball tampering) by a Nation with a long and inauspicious history of ball tampering, including directly by Captains…No one does sanctimony by the English…

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

Of course we would criticise a heartless Pom or any other player for not batting for his nation in an important part of the game due to a calf strain…No Aussie in the Team would consider not batting under the circumstances. But likewise I doubt any Pom would either.

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

Lyon taking the field quite obviously served a purpose…15 more runs was worth the discomfort. A calf strain presents no risk to ending his career, otherwise he would not have been allowed to bat.

Although boring to watch last night, it is a comforting acknowledgement of tactical failure by the English. A made to order pitch and once again very favourable conditions will never be enough when man for man your players just aren’t as good as their opponent.

No evidence to support either of the conclusions you proffered. If Australia had batted first there is zero reason to suspect they would have gone on to lose. The Pommie self anointed saviour of test cricket role is a role in search of a Play. No saving required quite obviously. It is just a self serving script for when their tactics fail. Sadly the English press and public are drinking the Kool-aide served up by Brendan…

Of course coming up against quality opposition was going to cause them trouble. They’ve been cruising against weaker teams and drinking the Kool-aide for too long.

Freddy, for all his success as a player due to athletic talent, is quite clearly not very football smart. That is beyond dispute. But let’s also remember that he is not just coaching against Billy, it is also Cam Smith and JT…three of the greatest of all time. They are many steps ahead of Freddy and his tired and antiquated “advisor”, Brandy Alexander.
