Cronulla are playing beautiful football.
They’ve scored 152 points in fours games and the defence is positively stingy – which is what I am mostr excited about.
The big tests are coming but they are in good shape – pity about Trindall though – these days he’s actually a big loss.

Hynes states claim for Origin with perfect performance as blood-thirsty Sharks devour 'embarrassed' Raiders

Fitzgibbon was talking up the Hynes/Trindall partnership on Sunday post game.
What a disaster.
What a clown.

“gate of the infirmary.”
Well put and very true.

'There were no decisions to make': Skipper drops retirement bombshell after doctors' grave warnings

Great bloke and a wonderful teammate.
But not great value to Cronulla in terms of games played and impact – plenty of suspensions and injuries.
Overall though a terrific career.
He was one of the five Storm players who failed to stop Fifita scoring his magnificent try in the 2016 GF.
Finucane was the first to arrive and bounced right off him.
Thanks Dale.
Hopefully he will still be at Cronulla playing a role – off field a terrific asset.
Best of luck to him and one could never say he didn’t always put his body on the line for his team.

Not so keen on Finucane.
I’d be playing everyone else, including Hunt, before I played him.

Sizzling Sharks show they're the real deal with savage attack but question marks linger for misfiring Cowboys

Well that was fun.
Close to a perfect performance from Cronulla, the first half in particular was outstanding.
Good signs but much greater tests await.

Another ref/touch judge blunder – how the touch judges missed it I have no idea.
Sorry for the Titans – they fought so hard and deserved much, much better.

Occasionally Fatty says something funny.
On that basis alone he’s worth keeping especially when one considers who else work on the Nine and Fox commentary teams.
How SBW gets a guernsey I’ll never know.
But there are others – not as bad perhaps – but bad all the same.
Another poster SSTID wrote: “Gould finds something early on in the game and then continues to say it 80 times more throughout the game.”
Spot on.
I dearly miss Sterlo – to me he was the Benaud of league commentary.
Didn’t talk over the action, terrific analyst, sense of humour and just an occasional foray into the past that was always worthwhile.
What a loss – to me anyway.

Viewers need more of Paul the analyst, less of Fatty the class clown's cringeworthy commentating

They need to get it out of the game – quickly.

'Just nasty', 'needs to be outlawed': The NRL blight Quade Cooper says rugby must ban in wake of horror blow

The big plus for the Sharks – apart from the points – was they got it done without close to an entire pack on the sideline – Hamlyn Uele, Nikora, Rudolph, Hunt, Colquhoun.
That’s a lot of middle grunt missing.
Can’t see how that Hau Tapuha can be dropped.
Every time he plays he scatters opponents.
McInnes was immense – as usual.
One of Cronulla’s best ever buys.
Well done John Morris.
But lots to fix.
Kudos to Stuart for being gracious in defeat while blasting his own side.

Flaky Sharks storm back from 18-point deficit to run down Raiders on the back of 'unacceptable' Savage blunder

Spot on – and it’s a shame – they are tackling machines.
I was a fan of Ennis in his time at Cronulla.
His short kicking game close to the line was superb and created havoc – it took the pressure off the playmakers and provided another point of attack while keeping the defence guessing.
And he was clever – he once scored a try against the Warriors by turning 360 degrees when close to the line – the defence simply parted and he strolled through.
Pity he was only at the club for two years.
When it came time to decide which Brailey brother to keep Cronulla opted for Blayke on the basis of him being more potent in attack.
I am yet to see that reaslised consistently.
Of course Smith is the greatest – he was like a halfback in the way he controlled the game.
And of course he controlled a fair few refs too.

He has been superb for the code – exactly what it needed.

Flanno trumps Des as Sloan fires Dragons to statement win over Titans

I am not a Dragons supporter.
I just like Flanno and Hunt – is that OK?
I suspect I support the same club you do.

Flanno trumps Des as Sloan fires Dragons to statement win over Titans

Delighted for Flanno.
A great bloke and he sure can coach – knows that it all stems from defence and he’s got them very fit.
Dragons unrecognisable in defence from last year and attack flows from good defence as we saw last night.
Hunt is a happy man too.

Flanno trumps Des as Sloan fires Dragons to statement win over Titans

At last a top class defensive effort.
It’s been a long time since they turned in one of those.
If they can do it consistently then they might go places.
But it’s round 1.
Plenty of fine performances though and they looked highly committed.
Defence is all about attitude and they had it in spades.
I, like many, thought at 12-0 they’d be blown away – not so.
Fair effort beating a top four side at a place that has all the makings of a fortress.
That crowd is worth points depending on the referee.

“Gutted” indeed.

Spot on.
I adore Test cricket but it is in trouble.
T20 is a cancer.

Australia play nearly half their Tests against England and India - to save the game, that needs to change

Agreed.
And it will be fascinating to see how such a professional outfit goes about it.
But I sure hope they don’t get it right.
Time for a new champ.

Cole Comfort: Why replacing Luai is the biggest challenge yet for the Panthers' succession planning

LOL.

Four sight: Callous critics need to realise 'something special' factor can turn Green into Australia's Jacques Kallis

Not so sure about the “textbook technique”.
I see issues with his defence but I have no quibble with the rest of the praise.
He’s got a potentially superb future ahead of him.
Let’s hope he realises his potential.

Smith wants to open and apparently hates waiting to bat.
Also has had most success higher in the order.
I am not a fan of weakening one position to strengthen another but it’s worth a try.
I just wish Warner wasn’t retiring.
I am not one of the Warner haters and we will sorely miss him – a special player.

'Hope they don't': Langer warns against Green opener move as McDonald confirms Smith in the frame

It’s simple.
The defence fell apart in the finals in 2022.
The defence was worse in 2023.
End.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Cronulla Sharks - Fitzgibbon puts faith in familiar faces in fight to break finals jinx

I fear for the future of Test cricket.
This sort of nonsense deepens that fear.

Farcical 'gut feel' twist to umps' bad light decision after play delay slammed, great's left-field Warner replacement call

My reason for having no faith in team or coach is that after the embarrassing finals fadeout in 2022 I expected the defence to be fixed in a very tough pre-season.
It didn’t happen.
They went backwards in 2023 and every week we heard more tough talk that was never accompanied by a tough defensive approach.
Talk is cheap.
I hope to be proven wrong.
