“Gutted” indeed.

'Gutted': Edmed misses shot after siren as Tahs blow chance of going back-to-back against Kiwis for first time since 2015

Spot on.
I adore Test cricket but it is in trouble.
T20 is a cancer.

Australia play nearly half their Tests against England and India - to save the game, that needs to change

Agreed.
And it will be fascinating to see how such a professional outfit goes about it.
But I sure hope they don’t get it right.
Time for a new champ.

Cole Comfort: Why replacing Luai is the biggest challenge yet for the Panthers' succession planning

LOL.

Four sight: Callous critics need to realise 'something special' factor can turn Green into Australia's Jacques Kallis

Not so sure about the “textbook technique”.
I see issues with his defence but I have no quibble with the rest of the praise.
He’s got a potentially superb future ahead of him.
Let’s hope he realises his potential.

Smith wants to open and apparently hates waiting to bat.
Also has had most success higher in the order.
I am not a fan of weakening one position to strengthen another but it’s worth a try.
I just wish Warner wasn’t retiring.
I am not one of the Warner haters and we will sorely miss him – a special player.

'Hope they don't': Langer warns against Green opener move as McDonald confirms Smith in the frame

It’s simple.
The defence fell apart in the finals in 2022.
The defence was worse in 2023.
End.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Cronulla Sharks - Fitzgibbon puts faith in familiar faces in fight to break finals jinx

I fear for the future of Test cricket.
This sort of nonsense deepens that fear.

Farcical 'gut feel' twist to umps' bad light decision after play delay slammed, great's left-field Warner replacement call

My reason for having no faith in team or coach is that after the embarrassing finals fadeout in 2022 I expected the defence to be fixed in a very tough pre-season.
It didn’t happen.
They went backwards in 2023 and every week we heard more tough talk that was never accompanied by a tough defensive approach.
Talk is cheap.
I hope to be proven wrong.

I have no trust in their defence or grit.
Or in their coach.

Sure hope so – love Garry.

Lyon could overtake Warne: Cummins can see GOAT rivalling spin king's tally by playing 'another four or five years'

Anyone watching this shambles could see there was no game plan whatsoever.
If there was it cleverly concealed.
I hope Jones gives Japan more of the same – colossal failure.
I feel sorry for the likes of Quade, Hooper and Foley.

'It was remarkable RA couldn't see it': Quade slams Eddie chaos, praises 'phenomenal' McKellar

I despise him.
He’s quite simply vile with an enormous ego and great difficulties with the concept of ‘honesty’.
I hope he crashes and burns in Japan.
The one good thing in this is surely he’ll never be allowed to have anything to do with Aust rugby ever again.
Not much solace – but some.
I’ll add it to the demise of the CEO in the (short) positive column.

Fan Rant: The ONE positive from Eddie Jones' lies - and how it could help Aussie rugby rise from the ashes

Delighted for him.

‘No better way to silence them’: Warner fires back at critics with blistering ton as Aussies pile on misery to Pakistan

Had to happen.

'It's about time', 'best news in a decade', 'thank god': Legends' glee at Tigertown carnage as Wests sack board

A tragedy.
Such a loss to Australian rugby.
And a lovely and trustworthy man as well.

Eddie Jones set to be appointed Japan coach six weeks after walking out on Wallabies

Is there anyone Johnson doesn’t have a problem with apart from his dear mate ‘Watto’?
I doubt it.

'Wouldn't be summer without a headline': David Warner's classy response to Johnson sledge

Oh dear.

Done deal: Wallabies star signs with NRL powerhouse in brutal reality check for RA at start of 'golden decade'

Of course they all have so much to thank him for too – so much success.
Two from nine Tests was it?
So many memories to cherish.

Wallabies stars say Jones' Japanese defection would 'hurt', Bell open to captaincy as Aussie players return

Yep, you are right – they are all huge fans.

Wallabies stars say Jones' Japanese defection would 'hurt', Bell open to captaincy as Aussie players return

Jones’s selections let them down.
They were devoid of experience and depth in key positions and it showed – big time.
I am not surprised at the reluctance by any of them to criticise Jones and/or the ARU.
Even the likes of Hooper have been circumspect.
Some will never play at a WC again – what a disaster for those guys.

Wallabies stars say Jones' Japanese defection would 'hurt', Bell open to captaincy as Aussie players return

McInnes was signed by Morris.
Fitzgibbon signed Hynes and Finucane at the start of his tenure (beginning of 2022).
Fifita and Tolman retired a year later (end of 2022) – Kaufusi replaced two props.
Graham left at the end of last season (2023) with Moylan and Tracey following him out the door.
Not replaced either – so far anyway.

Pressure Points: Craig Fitzgibbon has proven himself in the NRL – now, he needs to show that Sharks aren’t flat track bullies

I fee sorry for the Wallabies players.
Let down by Jones and the ARU.

Wallabies stars say Jones' Japanese defection would 'hurt', Bell open to captaincy as Aussie players return

In Fitzgibbon’s time he has lost Fifita, Tolman, Graham, Moylan and Tracey and replaced them with … Kaufusi.
No wonder the side is going backwards.
Flanno knew what it took to build a premiership side.
He stacked it with quality players unwanted by their clubs – Lewis, Ennis, Barba, Heighington etc and made Origin stars out of young guns – Bird and Holmes.
Then he bought Maloney – the cherry on top.
And he made them a tough defensive side with a feared pack.
There is none of that with Fitzgibbon.
After the disaster of the finals exit in 2022 one could have expected a big emphasis on defence – that sure didn’t happen – they went backwards.
He seems to think he’s got a premiership winning squad – he must do – otherwise surely he’d be replacing the players he’s lost.
He’s not.
I expect Cronulla to finish somewhere between eighth and 11th – another season in which they go backwards.
Their defence against anyone prepared to run hard at them close to the line is rubbish.
Defence wins big matches.
That’s why Cronulla doesn’t win many of them.
And they won’t do while the current regime and current squad are there.

I love Test cricket.
It’s streets ahead of the other formats though my love for one-day internationals was well and truly rekindled by the WC.
Some of those games were like mini Tests with ebb and flow.
T20 has none of that – hence my lack of interest.

Do Australians love Test cricket or just watching the baggy green side win at home pretty much all the time?
