The good: The Chelsea machine, another Burnley win and a Clyne goal (for most Fantasy PL managers)
The bad: Another goalless afternoon for Leicester.
The ugly: Liverpool’s form. Being destroyed by Crystal Palace…a new low?
EPLextra episode 17: Wenger and Rodgers out?
goldenboot most United fans would’ve been ecstatic with the result especially with the chances Arsenal had in the first half.
Wenger is probably in a stronger position but if they fail to make top 4 the daggers will surely be out.
EPLextra episode 17: Wenger and Rodgers out?
Ooo we love the big man getting his groove on. He commits to it and makes such a stylish looking robot.
Austin kind of looks like an embarrassed chicken who has lost all of its feathers.
EPLextra episode 15: Liverpool lack bite as Chelsea win
The good: Burnley win, Charlie Austin’s form and the Claude Vines (google it) that came from the Arsenal loss.
The bad: The defending of the “big” clubs. Amauteur hour in some cases.
The ugly: Is there a worse goal celebration in world football than Austin’s chicken dance?
EPLextra episode 15: Liverpool lack bite as Chelsea win
THE GOOD: Oscar’s finish for Chelsea’s opener in their game against QPR.
THE BAD: Benteke getting a red card when three points were on the line.
THE UGLY: Newcastle fans with a sense of humour on a Halloween weekend with a banner which said “Pardew – Back from the dead”.
EPLextra episode 14: Blue moon rising as United sees red
THE GOOD: Southampton staying true to their playing style and while they did not score eight goals, they collected another three points with a great display.
THE BAD: Jostling at a corner is part of the game and while blocking a keeper is legitimate tactic, taking him out is not (see West Brom against Crystal Palace).
THE UGLY: Comedian Russell Brand planting a big wet kiss on Sam Allardyce during his post match interview.
EPLextra episode 13: Chelsea held as Manchester City lose
The good: Aguero’s 4, Southampton’s 8 and goals goals goals in injury time.
The bad: Arsenal’s injury crisis in week 8…not again!
The ugly: Zero points for the dives that helped Chelsea and Stoke get the wins.
EPLextra episode 12: Eight is great if you’re a Saint
Hi AZ_RBB,
Thanks for the comment (If people have trouble listening to the episode through the embedded player, here’s the direct link https://soundcloud.com/eplextra/episode-11-now-with-100-a-league)
It was always the intention to cover all things related to football and since the EPL season runs virtually all year round we figured it would be good to get a football podcast up and running even when the domestic season wasn’t on (which due to the long off-season is a large part of the year unfortunately), hence the ‘EPL’ in the title. Now that the A-League is up and running, we can cover the domestic game as well, hence the ‘extra’ in the title.
We can understand some people might be put off by the name and we are always looking for feedback. If there is an overwhelming reaction to the name, we can consider changing it. Any suggestions?

EPLextra episode 11: Now with 100 per cent Australian football!
THE GOOD: When two teams both decide to play football you get an exciting, see-sawing, highly technical and fascinating game. Thanks Adelaide and Brisbane
THE BAD: Matt McKay’s red card for dissent and abusive language. Passion is an important part of the game but the officials should be respected no matter how wrong you think they are.
THE UGLY: Not a fan of the advertising border around the Melbourne Victory’s technical area. It just looks odd, like sponsors on collars. Surely there are alternative opportunities for clubs to make a few bucks.

I remember constantly being unsure whether I should pick Keogh or Doyle in fantasy football as a cheap striker. He should be a great signing for Perth and if he forms a combo with Hersi Perth should do much better than last year.

Andy Keogh: The Irishman looking to ignite the A-League
Thanks bemused.
Over the last couple of weeks I have found myself asking the same question as you about Pardew. As we discussed in the podcast, it might just be that Newcastle’s season has to get worse before something happens.

EPLextra episode 10: Wenger vs Mourinho (their teams played too)
George what percentage of A-League fans do you think would call it their #1 league to follow? You mentioned most but as Daniel said he’s Chelsea first, A-League second and there is probably a lot more like Daniel.
But as the game grows and a generation of kids have a great local product to follow maybe a majority of football fans will call the A-League their number one league. How long will this take? No idea but would love to know everyone’s guesses.
Football provides grand-final drama every week
Great article and very much a hot topic in football due to the success of the FFA Cup. We discussed this on our podcast this week and our ideal vision of expansion for the next ten years would look something like:
* Each teams membership numbers continue to grow year on year.
* The league and the teams are financially strong.
* The league looks to expand by two teams before the new TV deal negotiations. Possibly one team in Brisbane area (to create a QLD derby) and maybe Canberra (selfish choice).
* The FFA cup continues to be a popular addition to the football calendar.
* The FFA conduct feasibility studies on setting up a second division for the introduction of promotion/relegation (this depends largely on the size of TV deals).
The right way to expand the A-League
Agree 100% about this year being a huge year for football fans in this country. So much positive momentum in the game at the moment. Records to be smashed!
It’s interesting you said the game doesn’t need to cater to new fans. Having just seen the A-League it looks as if the marketing is very much about the football fan. But I think if the league continues to generate great atmospheres at games and positive press this will bring in new fans which can only be a good thing going forward.
Football provides grand-final drama every week
The time difference with the UK is a big reason why friends of mine have watched less and less EPL since uni finished. But they are still big football fans and are Sydney FC members.
The marquee games in the A-League are always a special events (can’t wait for the Sydney derby!). I think the key for the league is to continue to take advantage of the increased exposure of those games to build crowds/ratings for the games in between. And maybe one day the A-League will sell out most games like the EPL does (Australian football paradise!)

Great to see fans who have been part of the A-League journey from the beginning. I’m really hoping that we get an Adelaide derby in the FFA cup.

For this week:
THE GOOD: David de Gea’s performance in goal for Manchester United against an Everton team which threw everything at him.
THE BAD: Mourinho and Wenger on the sideline. The talking points should be about what happens on the field rather than what two grown men who should know better do off it.
The UGLY: Very odd to see Harry Redknapp answer his phone mid-game and then pass it to his assistant Kevin Bond. Maybe they were phoning a friend to get an answer QPR’s current woes.
EPLextra episode 10: Wenger vs Mourinho (their teams played too)
Hi Griffo,
Just to let you know, your article was chosen as the Article of the Week for EPLextra Episode 9.
Marko
Is there space for the W-League in A-League academies?
As mentioned above, here is my THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY for this week.
THE GOOD: Another Merseyside derby and another Gerrard goal. Marty might not agree with this pick, but there is no denying that the Liverpool captain seems to step up when Liverpool play Everton. Gerrard is the top scorer in Premier League Merseyside derbies with 9 goals and his strike on the weekend ensured that the Toffees remained winless in 15 league trips to Anfield.
THE BAD: That Rooney tackle. Unnecessarily violent and shows that no matter how mature Rooney seems to get, he still has the capacity for the odd brain snap which now means that Manchester United will be without his services for 3 games.
The UGLY: A bad day in the office for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala as he conceded a penalty and scored a bullet like header past his own keeper that any centre forward would be proud of.

EPLextra episode 9: Derby Day
Thanks Griffo…
Happy for everyone to spread the word to help build the audience and of course we welcome any feedback to help us improve.
It would be great to see more fan-made podcasts out there. We’ve found it takes a fair bit of effort to make them but its been great thus far. Podcast Tuesday sounds like a great idea.

EPLextra episode 5: Aston Villa to win the title
Hi Carl,
Thanks for the comment. Are you able to say which name we got wrong? We may not have the verbal dexterity of Les Murray but we can always improve.
As for the Villa, 7 points from 10 is a great start, but as I alluded to in the podcast, its likely this total will pretty much stay the same for the next 5 games. The style of play Villa have adopted thus far is an improvement from last season (hard not to be) but I still would like to see us take the game to more teams at home. Playing on the counter away is probably a smart tactic, but at home we should try and press more. The first half against Hull was a good example of this, but you are right that the second half showed its hard for us to maintain that over 90 minutes.
Cheers

EPLextra episode 5: Aston Villa to win the title
Hi Joshua…
Thanks for the vote of support. We’ve enjoyed producing the podcast thus far and hope that people enjoy listening to it. Always open to suggestions as well. Happy for you to spread the word to bring in more listeners.
I used to write on the Roar a few years ago under a pseudonym. Isik and Lachlan are long time lurkers of the website and we thought this would be a way to add to the football discussion on the Roar in a different way. Thankfully the Roar were supportive and there is a wealth of material (like your article) for us to use for the Article of the Week segment. Hopefully we did your article justice in our comments.
We are all fans of football and play/coach to differing degrees. Our part-time panel members have a similar background.
Cheers

EPLextra episode 3: And we’re off
billymumphrey we aim to please our listeners. Next week we’ll look to increase our pun coverage by 100% on the podcast. Here’s a sneak peek as to what to expect…
Tottenham steal it late as West Ham suffer a Dier afternoon.

EPLextra episode 3: And we’re off
Good: The Siggy & Bony show, RvP thunderbolt and promotion saving form of Ings and Austin.
Bad: The form of Hull. From FA cup finalists to struggling in PL.
Ugly: Aguero getting booked for diving when it was a clear foul/penalty. Have the refs gone too far in trying to stamp out diving?
EPLextra Episode 18: Black Cats prove unlucky for Chelsea
