Was that a typo? I don’t really understand you’re argument. I was describing the advantages of a predictable season, which this season definitely is. I won’t debate whether or not the article is justified, I just intended it as some food for thought amid the love-in we are having for the topsy turvy season this year (which I am also enjoying).

David, why would you select Neville over Pyle? I agree that Neville has been fantastic over these past few games, but I think that Pyle has been the Rebels best forward not named Gareth Delve throughout the season. He carries the ball up well, is a one man wrecking ball when opponents try to set up a rolling maul, and has provided the Rebels with a bit of a spine when they need it the most.
Either way, I’m glad to see you giving some love to my oft-forgotten Rebels recently!

The Rebels lineout has been pretty weak this year, but the Rebels don’t really have much going on at hooker. Pyle and Neville have been great around the rest of the park.

hog, it’s a little unfair to say that 11,000 fans is disappointing when the rugby was being run at the same time as the F1 in Melbourne. You are correct that they need to rely on grassroots rugby to grow organically, and I think they are trying as they constantly promote Melbourne based rugby clubs at their home games. All I was arguing is that if they keep losing winnable games, as they did on Sunday, they’re going to lose support in a very crowded sporting market.
I would consider the Storm to have a geniune presence in the city at this point, and I’m willing to bet that you’d find a lot of Melbournites would be able to name a Melbourne Storm player before they could name a Melbourne Demon.
Melbourne Rebels need to ditch their winless 2012
Not sure who’s the jet fan around here, I’m certainly not. Eli led a very talented team to a 9-7 record last year, losing to the Redskins twice and the Seahawks as well. Like I said in the article, Eli is certainly capable of playing as well as anyone in the league, but he’s incredibly inconsistent. This past one was a fantastic one for him, statistically speaking, but footballoutsiders.com ranked him around 10th best in the league over the two preceding seasons (according to DYAR and DVOA). I’d argue that the elite QB’s in the league are the ones who are strong across many seasons, i.e. Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, and potentially Rivers (despite falling slightly in 11/12). Both of Eli’s rings have come in seasons when he put in huge performances from the end of the regular season through to the superbowl, rather than through the whole season. When was the last time you heard anyone argue that Eli should be a contender for an MVP title? Every other QB I’ve mentioned has featured in award discussions at some point.

Haven’t we been waiting 5 or 6 years to see some attacking riding from Cadel? The situation he finds himself in currently definitely doesn’t play to his strengths. I personally think Cadel will need some luck (as Contador did against Andy) if he is going to gain any significant advantages on both Wiggins and Froome.
