Marsh is downright inexplicable.

Paine gets in because all the other experienced keepers are either in severe form troughs or are just not good players, his selection at least makes a degree of sense.

Australia's Ashes squad announced: Analysing every player picked

I don’t think he had much choice with the Graham/Klemmer incident on Good Friday as you say he handled it correctly (the rest of the game is another story). However I can’t really agree with his performances being top class; admittedly there aren’t really stats for this, but I often think Sutton gets caught between penalising what’s in front of him and letting the game flow which leads to inconsistencies — especially with penalties for holding on too long.

I think he’s a decent first grade referee, but not in the top 3-4 choices for a major match.

Bernard Sutton to replace Tony Archer as refs boss: What?!?

Tony Archer’s management of the referees has produced poor results and his mates getting the big games rather than the best options (Gerard Sutton especially gets appointments well above his ability), so I’m not sure the logic holds up.

I’m not unhappy with Sutton’s bunker work, mostly because the only real problem has been the lack of send offs, it has been very obvious that Archer has been trying to have the refs keep a low profile; the change in the unwillingness to use the send off needs to come from higher up than the bunker officials, in fact it probably needs to come from the top.

One major issue to me would be that having a guy with two brothers on the active refereeing roster will reek of nepotism if they get picked for big games, could appointing Bernie as refs boss actually keep the others out of major matches?

Shove your forearm in someone’s mouth and you can’t claim victimhood.

Farah not backing down on bite claim

Samoa vs Tonga is better than origin?

What game did you watch because in the one I saw the ball control in was bottom of the ladder NRL team material. New South Wales would’ve flogged either of them, let alone Queensland.

Mad Monday: Samoa versus Tonga is better than Origin

Yeah, Farah pretty much shoved his forearm in McGillvary’s mouth — really has no right to complain.

Yes tackling in the modern game is almost entirely about first contact being with the upper body — between the way the dangerous throw is ruled, and the way the refs give nothing for the low tackle in terms of play the ball speed, there’s very few benefits to the low tackle.

Wade Graham scores four as Australia hammer France

A+ for guts, F for brains there.

I’ve got a better idea than any of these, it involves putting Shane Warne and Michael Slater on an ice floe.

I’m sure Bennett does like his forwards being able to belt kickers late with the relative safety of knowing the one ref is running down field to follow the footy at the time.

Really only two questions, and Cartwright a sensible answer for one of them.

So my question is… why is an Australian refereeing this game when we have Kiwi refs, did nobody engage their brain when assigning the referees?

Michael Morgan gets Kangaroos nod for England clash alongside three debutants

Kohli has a remarkable ability to make big scores, only for the team to be behind — either needing to score too much in the later part of a chase, or below par. Model of consistency, but a bit one paced at times.

King Kohli reigns supreme

“future Cooper Cronk”

Is implying that someone on the Eels roster has shown any signs of becoming the best organising halfback in the game, which nobody has.

Eels don't need Cronk: Sterlo

Side would look stronger with Munster at 6, Morgan 14, and Wade Graham out of the 17.

Michael Morgan gets Kangaroos nod for England clash alongside three debutants

Might make runs, but he’s slow in the field and costs a bunch in that area. Plus he’s never making the test side at this point, so why pick him over someone who could get there.

I’d have said Mark Kerr threw away similar talent with far less results to show for it.

Cooper Cronk confirms he wants to play on in 2018

The fact Gee departed, and then refused to co-operate with the NRL ensuring himself what amounts to a life ban from involvement with the game pretty much confirms something shifty was going on at the Broncos; cap related or otherwise.
