Smith has sat out several series (ODIs and T20s), what’s to say he won’t in the future?

Australia needs a fifth bowling option but it ain't Mitch Marsh

Maxi was unlucky to miss out as a batsman, but as a test match bowling option (in Perth no less) he’s as much use as a bag of mouldy Weet-Bix.

Hi Scott,

Happy to; coaching is a results based business where winning games is pretty much the only way to ensure another contract, media is an eyeballs based business that’s really about getting people watching, clicking, and commenting.

So a person in a media role has different motives to a coach when asked to list a team, and, I think importantly, has much less personally riding on their decisions. It doesn’t count against Brad Fittler as a commentator and columnist to make some unusual decisions in a team list if they make for an interesting discussion point that engages the viewer, as a coach though making an unusual choice is a much riskier venture.

No room for the top three in Freddy's New South Wales team

The role of a commentator / panellist is at times that of a provocateur, I think that needs to be considered a bit with any team someone in that position lists.

People care about the commonwealth games?

News Corp to boycott Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

Two strikers with average chins and beyond that a bunch of nobodies on his record, interesting to see how Ngannou goes if he has to wrestle for long enough to start tiring a bit.

Stipe Miocic versus Francis Ngannou is a can't-miss fight

Punching is a trip to the bin though.

How rugby league's relaxed rules for diaspora players gave the sport a new lease of life

Well I wouldn’t move Gutherson either, but BA shunted him to the centres to accommodate French at one point before he got moved back (and then got hurt) so there’s precedent to moving him out.

BREAKING (again): Jarryd Hayne leaving Gold Coast, Titans reportedly set to confirm exit later today

Someone in the outside backline usually gets injured though, and I’m not sure Gutherson exactly has his claim fully staked at FB either — though the Eels play infinitely smarter with him in the spine somewhere.

To give Bellamy his due, he was essentially professor Frankenstein leading a disorganised pack of villagers against the monster he’d created.

Fittler on the roof! NSW Blues confirm new State of Origin coach

Smith is dismissed by LBW 15.6% and bowled 21.1%, Root is LBW 17.8% and bowled 14.9% — both figures from test matches.

Gulf between Smith and Root makes all the Ashes difference

I like how the roar occasionally publishes satire without a tag, keeps everyone on their toes.

To grow international rugby league, we must kill State of Origin

It was the correct decision, but what troubles me is that if it had been sent up the video ref was an Englishman — I won’t say he couldn’t make an unbiased decision but that’d be an absurd ask of the man, making a game deciding decision in a semi-final involving your home country.

He doesn’t open in first class cricket and does not have a good average anyway?

Renshaw fails again for Bulls in Shield

The injuries to O’Loughlin and Hodgson are a worry for the English.

Bennett doesn't rate England in World Cup final

The English player may have played at the ball, but his hand was nowhere near it when Fifita actually lost control of the ball.

No try.

It’s hard to enjoy something that’s 50% mismatches.

Can all the naysayers just enjoy the Rugby League World Cup?

Tim, what’s the breakdown on home/away for those FTA games?

Pretty major factor I think, the Warriors, Titans, and Raiders really shouldn’t be playing at home in the FTA Thursday/Friday evening timeslots (as well as the Saturday evening one on pay).

The ridiculously unfair 2018 NRL draw needs to be redone

Pretty humid in Melbourne today.

Kiwis also, and probably South Africa if he ever gets another test there…

Sad state of affairs when there’s a Bok team that can’t be picked that would flog the actual side.

Pretend you are the next Springbok coach

I don’t think he should bother with a resignation speech. Just turn up at the presser, say “sorry” and walk off never to return.

Well yes, the Shield is played without the active Test players for the majority of rounds.
