As doctors and nurses are stretched we’ll need the next best qualified people to step up e.g. vets and physios and take over the basic roles being performed now e.g. swabbing
Should the A-League still be on tonight?
Thankfully Gladys seems to be far more intelligent than Scomo
Should the A-League still be on tonight?
History shall record our national leader’s incompetence. Songs shall be sung about his failure to act in a timely and appropriate manner, despite evidence suggesting any delays would be deadly
Should the A-League still be on tonight?
We’ll be much closer to Italy than Singapore. We lack the discipline for social distancing, exhibit A Bondi
Should the A-League still be on tonight?
Absolutely Nick. We need to substantially increase testing. Vets and sports medicos, physios can all play a vital role.
In a years time when we count the toll of this I can guarantee we’ll all be saying “if only we’d acted sooner”…
Should the A-League still be on tonight?
There is work and essential work. The choice is to take a big economic hit in the short term or an enormous cost of life hit AND and
a big economic hit in the longer term.
Business as usual from a work POV will significantly increase the death toll.
Should the A-League still be on tonight?
No. It should have been cancelled 2 weeks ago.
Unfortunately far too many people continue to underestimate the gravity of COVID. Without wanting to panic anyone, we have around 2000 ICU beds. At its projected peak we may need 10x that many…. What happens to those without an ICU bed? They die. Thousands upon thousands. Australians. There may be Roar readers among that…
The ONLY way to prevent this is by social isolation . We must “flatten the curve” or we will be refering to this period as possibly the greatest catastrophe in modern history. The extent of the disaster is in our hands. Stay home. Footballers travelling interstate and having direct contact with others will increase the spread, the death toll. It is not only unnecessary but irresponsible and reckless. Everyone stay home.
Unfortunately our government have acted incredibly slowly. Where Italy are now, > 600 deaths a day is where we are likely to be in 2-3 weeks. There is no economic justification for it. Lives must be prioritised.
It is insane that schools are still open, insane that you are allowed to get your haircut.
Should the A-League still be on tonight?
It appears from the comments many people still do not grasp the seriousness of this, and how poorly the government have handled it.
This is the single greatest disaster any of us have faced in our lifetimes. There will be Roar readers who will be dead by the end if this.
Look at Italy. This is us in 3 weeks. We were warned and have chosen to ignore it. Let’s all go to Bondi…
A-League and national codes' stubbornness shows where priority lies in Australian sport
It is time to lock ourselves away though. The countries doing well with COVID have moved early and hard.
A-League and national codes' stubbornness shows where priority lies in Australian sport
And in “stepping in” they have moved far too f#$%€n slow, which will lead to many more deaths
A-League and national codes' stubbornness shows where priority lies in Australian sport
The CMO had blood on his hands. He’s allowing economic decisions to override medical ones. The lag in the decision to close schools will kill many.
A-League and national codes' stubbornness shows where priority lies in Australian sport
Agree Kanga. Every step taken to stop the spread of COVID must be taken. Every life counts. Social distancing can’t happen in football
A-League and national codes' stubbornness shows where priority lies in Australian sport
It’s over as far as I’m concerned Buddy. Irrelevant. Waz makes some great points as to why sport, and work need to be balanced with “flattening the curve”. The economic effects are horrendous and heart breaking.
From a health care professional POV there are too may other things to focus on; weighing up whether to pull the kids from school, whether I need to segregate myself from family to continue to work, tracking patients and staff we’ve been in contact with.
Seeing what I am seeing, in Italy especially, I think we are acting far too slowly. Non – essential contact needs to stop. A-league is non essential
Whoever wins the A-League will be the best at playing behind closed doors
More than 100k dying isn’t as bad as the precautionary action? These are the figures we’ll be dealing with (in Australia) if we don’t slow transmission. How do we do that? “Precautionary action “
Lay off Cameron Smith
It’s always nice to see someone who understands the issue Rowdy
AFL in the time of COVID-19: Sticking together while social distancing
Worse casr scenario is 20% of our population end up in hospital . 200k or so die.
You go along happily thinking it’s a conspiracy. I work in health. This is a sh1t storm, make no mistake
AFL in the time of COVID-19: Sticking together while social distancing
Non essential businesses will be closed by the end of the month
AFL in the time of COVID-19: Sticking together while social distancing
Unaffected but spreaders
AFL in the time of COVID-19: Sticking together while social distancing
Estimated would pit 40-60 % of players in the infected basket eventually. Unless the entire roster of every team (plus support staff) are quarantined from everyone else for the course of the entire season (families included) COVID will be rampant.
And yes, there is a small risk players may die. Is it really worth it?
AFL in the time of COVID-19: Sticking together while social distancing
Over in a few weeks? The peak is likely to be another 2-3 months…
AFL in the time of COVID-19: Sticking together while social distancing
You’re all for isolation but happy for the A-league to go ahead? It’s both “applicable and practical ” to cease all sporting competitions. That way we can maximise the chance of keeping the essential work force at work
FFA suspends grassroots football as Wellington Phoenix head to Australia
You have completely diminished the risks of ignoring the need for social isolation. You have completely dismissed the lives of the elderly. For a game.
There is the potential for an A-league player to die, there is at least one in remission for cancer. Young people still end up in ICU btw. An A-league player exposed because he’s still training or playing may end up in ICU, probably live, but deny another person who’s tried to do the right thing a chance to live….
Stay home everyone. I’d love to but will be neck deep in corona virus again tonight. Scr3w the A-league
FFA suspends grassroots football as Wellington Phoenix head to Australia
I don’t think Micko is thinking Kanga
FFA suspends grassroots football as Wellington Phoenix head to Australia
Yeah I’ve read it. Key points; all end games lead to mass deaths…
Shut down now and hard
