Crows have offered more money and better terms and Dawson grew up as a Crows supporter so we shall see. The rumours you allude to seem to only come from one source Sam at Sen. You wonder why Dawson didn’t nominate Port straight off if that’s where he wanted to go?

I am a Crows and Glenelg supporter and have barracked against Port all my life. I have no problems Port wearing their heritage jumper as it acknowledges where they came from. Just as I am happy for the Crows to wear the heritage jumper that acknowledges where they came from: all Sanfl clubs including Port. There’s the rub 😉
By the way the guernsey represents wharf pylons, reflecting the working class origins of Port. Maye ‘bars’ reads better than ‘pylons’ , but why be known as felons rather than pylons? 0)
In fact the members at the time rejected the change from blue and white to black and white. Blue dye was an issue and precipitated the change to black.
Why don’t Port do a pylons guernsey that incorporates Teal as a halfway point?

The 2007 agreement specified Port could wear the iron bars guernsey annually for the heritage round. McGuire and the AFL signed off on this while knowing the heritage round was about to be scrapped. Instead of entitlement the question here is about integrity.

Joke decision by a seriously compromised competition. Far to VFL centric. Its a national competition. Port has more history than many VFL teams and deserves respect. You can move the GF as well .

Well they were totally done over in restructuring their leagues to appease the AFL. And which didn’t lead to an AFL team. Its not really a truly national comp if you don’t have teams from Tassie and NT. But you’re conflating two different issues the state of Tassies economy with an AFL team. But you’re right the AFL is based in Melbourne and can do whatever it likes. Like signing away the GF for 40 years with no consultation with the interstaters. It’s a cruel game footy when you can be the best team all year then lose by a goal when it really counts. Richmond dominated that last quarter and that’s where the game was won and lost. As for the deliberate out of bounds the home crowd were roundly cheering and demanding it all game until that goal. The umpires were consistent on that rule over the 4 quarters but less so during the year.

Port were the steadiest of the top 4 sides in the opening round of the finals. Plus they have the hunger. Richmond do not have the advantage of home ground finals. Their success has also bred a certain hubris that won’t cover their failing star. If Geelong kick straight it will be close but a team effort can get Brisbane over Danger’s efforts.

Great writing Marty. The enigma of managing people is at the heart of good coaching. That and having the talent available. In the Dogs year their greatest win seemed to me to be the final against West Coast. Will Collingwood follow that path?. I’m a Crows supporter and it will be interesting to see how Matthew Nicks emerges as a coach as he molds his own side.

Clarkson is such a bad loser. Easy enough to hold a press conference when you’re winning but much harder to remain dignified when you’re losing. He’s blamed losses on rules, players diving, the draft, you name it. In regards to rules, I recall he exploited the rushed behind to win a GF which necessitated a rule change – so rules are ok when you can exploit them but not ok when you lose. He could learn a lot from the new Crows coach, Nicks in how to conduct himself following a loss.
