Doesn’t happen in the AFL. I have always thought it is such an amateur look for the NRL that this is allowed to take place.

Claws are out as Luai fails to front for Panthers training after changing his stripes to Tigers

Yep this is absolutely what every athlete strives for. Forget premiership glory, we all want this one… Massive egg on the face of the AFL here.

Another accolade for Panthers: Best sporting team in Australasia - and it's bad news for AFL in cross-code wars

Just on the Lions vs Suns Sunday night match in round 8, it’s a public holiday in Qld the following day so that one makes a bit more sense.

2024 AFL fixture winners and losers: Cats' great run, a primetime Showdown at last, and is Sunday night... ... back?

Completely agree. This is really not a great start for Dillon’s reign – the jury is very much out for me.

COMMENT: Congratulations, AFL - 'Opening Round' is the dumbest thing you've ever done

I have to say, as a Lion’s fan I’m pretty disappointed with that fixture. We were the runner’s up this season and in return we get an early Friday game against the same team we played last time (who finished 17th), at Norwood. The Western Bulldogs on the other hand got the Saturday night at AO against Port first time around, and now another prime time AO game against the Cats despite doing nothing this season.

AFL Gather Round fixture revealed: Crows, Port blockbusters to start weekend, Ginnivan faces former teammates

Well the short of it is that last year I was there, and 2019 I was entertaining 😂

To be completely honest though, despite the fact that 2022 & 2019 were blow outs, both the Cats and Tigers still played some amazing football. In 2013 neither team reached any great heights.

Every grand final of the 2000s, ranked first to 24th: Which classic is 'the most underrated decider in footy history'?

Have to agree with your top rankings – 2012 and 2011 were always favourites of mine, and made the following 3 years bearable until 2016 and 2018 delivered again. I also thought 2017 was pretty decent in it’s own right, aside from the scoreline blowing out.

I have to query having 2021 behind 2013 though. The last quarter was a blow out sure, but the first 3 were epic, and that period at the end of the third was the purest and most devastating football I’ve ever seen a team play. 2013 on the other hand was awful from start to finish – the only GF I’ve ever fallen asleep in.

This is not entirely related to this weekend’s games but I am curious to get the thoughts of the crowd all the same:

Who out of Collingwood or Brisbane gets the Friday night prelim?

This whole time I assumed for all money it would be the Pies, as they finished top and they are, well, Collingwood. But here is the thing – the Broncos are scheduled to host the Saturday night prelim in the NRL, and Port and GWS play this Saturday night. So if it is to be Collingwood on the Friday night then the AFL is giving the winner of Port vs GWS a 6 day break into the prelim, and putting the Lions up against the Broncos on the Saturday night. Alternatively, they give the Lions a clean run at it on the Friday night, and both Semi Final winners have a 7 day break.

Why every team will win their AFL semi final... and why they'll lose

Cheers for the write up fellas, cannot wait for this finals series to begin. I’ve found myself overseas poorly timed, so will be listening to the radio call of the Pies-Dees on the train to Berlin, and then have a day or so to find a bar hopefully playing the Lions on the Saturday.

Brisbane to finally get the flag they’ve been chasing, not sure who they beat – the winner of today’s game would be my bet. Bont to finally get a Brownlow, and I like McCluggage for the Norm.

I’m not saying he would have gotten off if he wore a black, white and red kit, but remove the red or make it navy blue and odds are he’d be playing this weekend…

Forget the ladder - the Lions have never been further away from a flag

The Lions will win this year’s premiership. That is all. I’ll be back in just over 5 weeks to check in.

Forget the ladder - the Lions have never been further away from a flag

Seem to recall knocking the reigning premiers out in straight sets there last year..?
At the end of the day they only need to win there once this year, and it’ll be in the game that matters.

Footy Fix: How the Lions dismantled sluggish Pies... and proved this is the best chance they'll ever get for a flag

While it is absolutely abhorrent and disgusting, does every dumb troll’s comment need to be a news story? By all means people should call them out on the post, and if the club wants to investigate go right ahead. But surely a public statement and it running as a headline on several news services is just feeding it more. The internet is full of mouth breathing cretins – so is society last time I checked.

'Abhorrent and disgusting': Collingwood condemn racist trolls over cowardly Rioli abuse

Devastating news. Ashcroft will miss this year’s premiership, and his career will subsequently be defined by his rise to become a top 3 player in the comp, with a team being built around to him to get that elusive flag.

'We are all hurting': Lions confirm worst possible news for Will Ashcroft

I’m channeling my inner Don… Port will drop games to the Pies and Cats. Lions will go through undefeated and claim a top 2 spot. They won’t meet the Pies until GF day when the crowd will be far more neutral than it would have in a QF or PF.

Race for the eight: Every run home analysed - here's how your team makes it to September

Phoarrr! Some big calls there. It could very well play out that way (as a Lion’s fan I hope it does), but could just as easily go the other way. Keen to watch it unfold.

Footy Fix: From pathetic to pummelling Port in 34 days - how breathtaking Blues have become footy's hottest team

See I don’t think of this game and rue the missed set shots, despite their existence. This game to me was more lost on being stunned from the start and letting them put 4 past us before we had a chance to blink; and then going into our shells for the last 10 minutes and letting them continue to build pressure and belief.

Footy Fix: Seven minutes, four goals, all heart - how Melbourne pulled off 2023's biggest heist

Kudos to Melbourne on an impressive comeback, as you say – their best is still exhilarating and premiership capable.

On the Lions though, as someone who is known throughout their friendship group as being very pessimistic when it comes to sport, I walked away last night with a renewed sense that we are up to our eye balls in the race to the flag.

We gave the Dees a 25 point headstart and lost by 1. We had a 28 point lead and went into our shells and let it get clawed back.

I will go on record as saying that the lessons we will hopefully learn and implement from last night’s game will be more important in the long run than the 4 points would have been.

Ah true, I had not heard that. Thanks for the clarification.

Round 18 Talking Points: Laughable situation with Test schedule unresolved as Origin debate flares up yet again

Surely Ponga is the stand out choice to replace Walsh? He was the incumbent last season, and had his most impressive game of the season just this weekend. Obviously there is a history of concussion to contend with, but if they’re ever going to pick him again it has to be for game 3.

Round 18 Talking Points: Laughable situation with Test schedule unresolved as Origin debate flares up yet again

Maybe Fyfe should go back to being a sub then, because he was dreadful on Saturday.

Interesting that you have moved from a team focus to individuals now – this doesn’t have anything to do with Freo being 1 win from their last 4 does it?

Six Points: Unsung heroes driving Pies to glory, Eagles set a benchmark, and 2023's best sub performance

So kind of like how they beat the top 8 Saints in Melbourne last weekend? Maybe you should have said “until they beat a top 4 team at the G”. They get a chance in 2 weeks time so we’ll see how they go.

Footy Fix: Brisbane's midfield is even better than you thought - and it's not just Neale who tore the Tigers a new one

A statement win by 81 points against a team on a 3 game winning streak that many had surging into finals. A 4 quarter performance against a side whose next 2 biggest losses have been by 44 and 24. Yeah, a statement win.
